  • Patent number: 9783652
Abstract: A thermoplastic sulfur-polymer composite comprises a thermoplastic polymer, such as polyethylene and polystyrene; and a sulfur element. Such sulfur element functions as passive sulfur filler in this composite. The thermoplastic polymer is a polymer matrix; and the sulfur filler is dispersed in the polymer matrix. There is no chemical reaction occurs after the addition of the sulfur filler into the host polymer and no chemical bond formed between the polymer and the sulfur filler. The thermoplastic sulfur-polymer composite can be a nanocomposite by either adding certain nanofillers into the composite or making the sulfur filler as sulfur nanoparticles. With its similar physical properties and lower manufacturing costs, the thermoplastic sulfur-polymer composites are good alternatives of the respective pure polymers.

  • Patent number: 9787880
Abstract: Disclosed herein are an apparatus and a method of video pre-processing for motion estimation, the apparatus comprising a similarity description module, a storage module, a verdict module, and a motion estimation module. The similarity description module receives a first image in a video, the first image consisting of first blocks, and calculates the similarity descriptors of every first block and a second block of a second image in the video. The second block corresponds to a reference block among the first blocks. The similarity descriptor of each block, which corresponds to a pixel matrix, indicates whether the pixel values of at least one pair of adjacent pixels in the pixel matrix are identical. The verdict module determines whether the similarity descriptors of the second and reference blocks are identical and reaches a verdict, whereby motion estimation is selectively performed on the second block.

  • Publication number: 20170285184
Abstract: A layered three-dimensional radiation position detector includes two-dimensional scintillator arrays that are pixelated by optically discontinuous surfaces and stacked on a light receiving surface of a light receiving element, responses of scintillator elements detecting radiations being made identifiable on the light receiving surface to obtain a three-dimensional radiation detection position. A scintillator array lying on a radiation incident surface side has a pixel pitch smaller than that of a scintillator array lying on a light receiving element side so that the scintillator array on the radiation incident surface side has increased resolution. A layered three-dimensional radiation position detector achieving both low cost and high resolution can thus be provided.
