  • Publication number: 20170145107
Abstract: Disclosed are epitopes of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and the use thereof. The epitopes are highly preserved, and located in the domain closely related to binding with an epidermal growth factor (EGF). Therefore, vaccine compositions comprising the epitopes or compositions comprising antibodies to the epitopes may efficiently block a signal transduction caused by binding of EGF and EGRF, and thus can be highly valuably used in treating various diseases such as cancer. An antibody bound to the epitopes of the present invention may efficiently inhibit binding of various EGFR ligands such as not only EGF but also TGF-?, AR, BTC, EPR and HB-EGF, with EGFR, and therefore can be used in treating various diseases resulting from an activation of EGFR caused by binding not only with EGF but also with other EGFR ligands.

  • Publication number: 20170146740
Abstract: Conventional approaches to integrating waveguides within standard electronic processes typically involve using a dielectric layer, such as polysilicon, single-crystalline silicon, or silicon nitride, within the in-foundry process or depositing and patterning a dielectric layer in the backend as a post-foundry process. In the present approach, the back-end of the silicon handle is etched away after in-foundry processing to expose voids or trenches defined using standard in-foundry processing (e.g., complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) processing). Depositing dielectric material into a void or trench yields an optical waveguide integrated within the front-end of the wafer. For example, a shallow trench isolation (STI) layer formed in-foundry may serve as a high-resolution patterning waveguide template in a damascene process within the front end of a die or wafer.

Abstract: In a light ray controller, a light transmission diffusion layer and a light reflection layer are laminated on each other. The light ray controller is arranged such that the light transmission diffusion layer is located between a rotation center axis and the light reflection layer. A light ray generator emits a light ray group including a plurality of light rays towards the light transmission diffusion layer rotated by a rotation module. The light transmission diffusion layer transmits the light ray group while diffusing it in a vertical direction. The light reflection layer reflects the light ray group that has been transmitted through the light transmission diffusion layer. Based on three-dimensional data, the light ray generator is controlled by a control device such that a three-dimensional image is presented by the light ray group that has been reflected by the light reflection layer and transmitted through the light transmission diffusion layer.

Abstract: PD-1 antagonists are disclosed that can be used to reduce the expression or activity of PD-1 in a subject. An immune response specific to an infectious agent or to tumor cells can be enhanced using these PD-1 antagonists in conjunction with an antigen from the infectious agent or tumor. Thus, subjects with infections, such as persistent infections can be treated using PD-1 antagonists. In addition, subjects with tumors can be treated using the PD-1 antagonists. In several examples, subjects can be treated by transplanting a therapeutically effective amount of activated T cells that recognize an antigen of interest and by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a PD-1 antagonist. Methods are also disclosed for determining the efficacy of a PD-1 antagonist in a subject administered the PD-1 antagonist. In some embodiments, these methods include measuring proliferation of memory B cells in a sample from a subject administered the PD-1 antagonist.
