Abstract: Technologies are generally described for methods and systems effective to determine a weight benefit associated with application of weights to training data in a machine learning environment. In an example, a device may determine a first function based on the training data, where the training data includes training inputs and training labels. The device may determine a second function based on weighted training data, which is based on application of weights to the training data. The device may determine a third function based on target data, where the target data is generated based on a target function. The target data may include target labels different from the training labels. The device may determine a fourth function based on weighted target data, which is a result of application of weights to the target data. The device may determine the weight benefit based on the first, second, third, and fourth functions.

Abstract: A multi-disk spinning disk assembly for atomization and encapsulation applications. A number of disks 17a and spacers (33, 40) are stacked to form a disk stack 17 having a feed well 31 in the center core of the stack. The fluid to be atomized or encapsulated is delivered to the feed well 31. The fluid then flows into spacer channels (37, 41) within or on the surface of the spacers. The channels (37, 41) communicate the fluid toward the outer edges of the disks 17a. The disk surface past the spacers (33, 40) can have various configurations, such as teeth, weirs, or a bigger or smaller diameter, as desired for particular atomization or encapsulation characteristics.

Abstract: In permeability lung edema, cardiogenic lung edema or neonatal respiratory distress, there is heterogeneous liquid distribution throughout the lungs. The excess alveolar liquid reduces gas exchange. Mechanical ventilation is used to improve gas exchange. In the presence of heterogeneous liquid distribution, there are surface tension-dependent stress concentrations in septa separating aerated from flooded alveoli. Mechanical ventilation, by inflating the lung above normal volumes, thus increasing surface tension above normal, exacerbates the stress concentrations and consequently injures, or exacerbates pre-existing injury of, the alveolar-capillary barrier. Any means of lowering surface tension should lessen ventilation injury of the lung. In the present invention, dilute exogenous surfactant solution or surfactant protein C solution interacts with albumin to lower surface tension, likely through effective promotion of surfactant lipid adsorption.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method of encoding a division block in video encoding and a method of decoding a division block in video decoding. An input picture is divided into encoding unit blocks. The encoding unit blocks are divided into sub-blocks. The sub-blocks are encoded by selectively using at least one of intra prediction encoding and inter prediction encoding. A decoding process is performed through a reverse process of the encoding method. When pixel values of an encoding unit block are encoded in video encoding, the flexibility in selecting an encoding mode is increased and the efficiency of encoding is increased.

The engineered aggregates may be tuned to oscillate resonantly under the influence of an external force improving the dynamic performance of the metamaterial by impeding dynamic excitation. The engineered aggregate generally comprise a multilayer resonant structure having at least a relatively heavy inner core surrounded by at least a compliant coating layer. The geometry and stiffness of the relative layers can be tuned to engineer a desired resonant frequency response within the aggregate for a chosen frequency range. The engineered aggregates are disposed in a matrix material to form a metamaterial. The engineered aggregates may be disposed within a mortar matrix to form a concrete metamaterial suitable for use, for example, in structural applications, including bunkers, shelters, etc.
