Abstract: Many GTPases such as Ras, Ral and Rho require post-translational farnestylation or geranylgeranylation for mediating malignant transformation. Dual farnesyltransferase (FT) (FTI) and geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGT-1) inhibitors (GGTI) were developed as anticancer agents from based on an ethylenediamine scaffold. On the basis of a 4-fold substituted ethylenediamine scaffold, the inhibitors are structurally simple and readily derivatized, facilitating extensive structure-activity relationship studies. The most potent inhibitor is compound exhibited an in vitro hFTase IC50 value of 25 nM and a whole cell H-Ras processing IC50 value of 90 nM. Several of the inhibitors proved highly selective for hFTase over the related prenyltransferase enzyme geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGTase-I).

Abstract: A method is for molding a gas hydrate pellet for improving convenience of handling of a natural gas hydrate during transportation and storage, and thereby improving the practical use of the natural gas hydrate. Gas hydrate slurry is fed in a compression chamber, and pressure and compression are applied to the gas hydrate slurry by advancing a compression plunger. At that time, a stroking speed of the compression plunger is set minimum, preferably less than a value expressed by a stroke length of the compression plunger at compression×10?2 (m/min. By advancing the compression plunger at low speed, binding between particles of the gas hydrate is tightened, thereby the gas hydrate pellet with increased shearing strength can be molded.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of implementing haptic-based networked virtual environments supporting high-resolution tiled displays. A haptic rendering process of detecting collision between a user of a haptic-device over a virtual environment and each of at least one virtual object and providing a physical force corresponding to a detection result to the haptic-device is performed, and a graphic rendering process of converting each virtual object represented as 3-D data into an object stream represented as 2-D data such that each virtual object is displayed as a 2-D image, and assigning a priority and a frame rate to each converted object stream according to a preset assignment criterion is performed. A plurality of displays provide a display image, including object streams of the virtual objects and background pixels, so that a virtual environment allowing the user of the haptic-device to visually and tactilely immerse thereto is effectively realized by utilizing limited resources.

Abstract: The present invention provides to a default current testing method of the high voltage direct current converter valve composited by impulse voltage. The technical scheme of the invention composites the symmetrical positive and negative voltage and the impulse into asymmetric positive and negative high voltage, it makes the test valve voltage accurately achieve required peak value at the set time. The test circuit is simple relatively; the high voltage source of the default current test circuit is instead by surge generators. The test method is flexible, safe, and suitable for different DC project converter valves.

Abstract: The invention provides an improved design for the construction of extensible nucleic acid-based, ligand-controlled regulatory systems, and the nucleic acid regulatory systems resulting therefrom. The invention contemplates improving the design of the switches (ligand-controlled regulatory systems) through the design of an information transmission domain (ITD). The improved ITD eliminates free-floating ends of the switching and the competing strands, and localizes competitive hybridization events to a contiguous strand of competing and switching strands in a strand-displacement mechanism-based switch, thereby improving the kinetics of strand-displacement. The improved regulatory systems have many uses in various biological systems, including gene expression control or ligand-concentration sensing.

Abstract: A surgical device mitigates over-puncture with a bias spring that biases a leading, cutting edge in the opposite direction of the anticipated over-puncture. An associated locking mechanism is configured to release the force of the bias spring in a direction counter to the direction of insertion when the tension force of tissue against the cutting edge is released. Thus, when an opening in the tissue forms, the tension is released and the cutting edge can move opposite to the direction of insertion of the surgical device at the same time that an applied force drives the instrument in the direction of insertion. In this manner, the spring and locking mechanism cooperate to move the cutting edge opposite to the direction of insertion as soon as an incision is made.
