Abstract: The invention relates to a reaction system and process for continuously preparing polymethoxy dimethyl ether (DMM3-8) by a continuous acetalization reaction between an aqueous formaldehyde solution or paraformaldehyde and methanol in the presence of a functionalized acidic ionic liquid as a catalyst. The reaction system of the invention preferably comprises a formaldehyde-concentrating unit, a vacuum-drying unit, an acetalization reaction unit, a product-separating unit and a catalyst-regenerating unit. The process of the invention uses aqueous formaldehyde solution as an initial raw material, which is concentrated in the formaldehyde-concentrating unit to a concentrated formaldehyde of 50˜80 wt. %, and vacuum-dried to paraformaldehyde, or uses paraformaldehyde as raw material directly, then obtains DMM3-8 by an acetalization reaction.

Abstract: A transmission control method for a vehicular ad hoc network system having a plurality of mobile nodes is provided. The mobile nodes include a source node, a destination node, and a plurality of relay nodes. The source node transmits a data packet to the destination node through the relay nodes. The method includes each mobile node capturing mobility information being periodically broadcasted from neighboring mobile nodes to correspondingly update the connection state table thereof, wherein the connection state table records the coverage remaining time between the mobile node and neighboring mobile nodes; when any of relay nodes determines that the coverage remaining time between the relay node and the subsequent mobile node is less than a predefined threshold, the relay node transforms into a proxy node, stores the data packet, and establishes a reliable sub-connection between the proxy node and a next proxy node or the destination node.

Abstract: Processes and systems for converting glycerol to propylene glycol are disclosed. The glycerol feed is diluted with propylene glycol as the primary solvent, rather than water which is typically used. The diluted glycerol feed is sent to a reactor where the glycerol is converted to propylene glycol (as well as other byproducts) in the presence of a catalyst. The propylene glycol-containing product from the reactor is recycled as a solvent for the glycerol feed.

Abstract: The present invention accurately predicts postoperative intraocular lens position on the basis of a shape image of the crystalline lens obtained by an optical interference tomographic imaging device. This makes it possible to reduce the postoperative refractive error and determine the power of the intraocular lens. The present invention comprises: a step for finding by computer the equatorial position, which is the site of maximum diameter in the crystalline lens, from the morphology of the crystalline lens obtained from a tomographic image of the patients eye generated by the optical interference tomographic imaging device; and a step for estimating the position of the intraocular lens from the equatorial position thus found.
