    Abstract: A hydroforming mold includes a lower die holder, a lower die, a pair of upper dies, a back pressure die, an upper die holder, and a pair of axial feed push rod assemblies. The lower die is disposed in a groove base of the lower die holder. A lower mold cavity for receiving a pipe blank is provided on the lower die. The two upper dies are clamped on the lower die, and can move along the top portion of the lower die. The back pressure die is disposed between the two upper dies. The axial feed push rod assemblies are respectively sealed at an end portion of the pipe blank and the two upper dies. Each of the axial feed push rod assemblies has a runner for introducing fluid into the pipe blank, so as to axially push the two upper dies to move close to each other.

    Abstract: Sulfonated silane ionomeric materials useful in electrodes of e.g., membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) of fuel cells can improve cell performance. MEAs prepared with CCE cathode catalyst layers and standard ELAT anode layers over a period of several start-stop cycles, as well as at multiple relative humidities were studied. The MEA performance was monitored using cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and fuel cell polarization curves. The CCE cathode materials appeared to maintain performance and had improved water management capabilities at comparatively low relative humidities.

    Abstract: Systems and methods related to optical nanosensors comprising photoluminescent nanostructures are generally described. Generally, the nanosensors comprise a photoluminescent nanostructure and a polymer that interacts with the photoluminescent nanostructure. In some cases, the interaction between the polymer and the nanostructure can be non-covalent (e.g., via van der Waals interactions). The nanosensors comprising a polymer and a photoluminescent nanostructure may be particularly useful in determining the presence and/or concentration of relatively small molecules, in some embodiments. Nucleic acids may be evaluated for the presence, type, or quantity of genomic instability or surrogates of dsDNA breaks such as ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), Rad3-related protein (ATR), and Tumor suppressor p53-binding protein 1 (53BP1) in gamma-H2AX foci. Nucleic acids comprising a germline nucleic acid sequence of the ERCC6, WRN, TERT, and FAAP100 genes may be sequenced or probed to determine if the nucleic acid sequence includes one or more alterations that cause genomic instability, dsDNA breaks, or gamma-H2AX foci or otherwise predispose a subject to develop colon cancer.

    Abstract: A mechanical memory transistor includes a substrate having formed thereon a source region and a drain region. An oxide is formed upon a portion of the source region and upon a portion of the drain region. A pull up electrode is positioned above the substrate such that a gap is formed between the pull up electrode and the substrate. A movable gate has a first position and a second position. The movable gate is located in the gap between the pull up electrode and the substrate. The movable gate is in contact with the pull up electrode when the movable gate is in a first position and is in contact with the oxide to form a gate region when the movable gate is in the second position. The movable gate, in conjunction with the source region and the drain region and when the movable gate is in the second position, form a transistor that can be utilized as a non-volatile memory element.

    Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method of determining a concentration of uranium including: a) a primary measuring step of measuring luminescence intensity or luminescence attenuation of uranium (VI) of an oxidant added sample obtained by adding an oxidant composition to a detection target sample; b) a secondary measuring step of adding different volumes of standard solution containing uranium (VI) having a predetermined concentration to a plurality of oxidant added samples, respectively, and then measuring luminescence intensity or luminescence attenuation of uranium (VI) contained in each standard solution added sample; and c) a calculating step of calculating a concentration of uranium (VI) contained in the detection target sample by a standard addition method based on the primary and secondary measurements. With the method for determining a concentration of uranium according to the present invention, the concentration of uranium may be further rapidly and accurately analyzed.

    Abstract: A method of making a metal oxide nanoparticle comprising contacting an aqueous solution of a metal salt with an oxidant. The method is safe, environmentally benign, and uses readily available precursors. The size of the nanoparticles, which can be as small as 1 nm or smaller, can be controlled by selecting appropriate conditions. The method is compatible with biologically derived scaffolds, such as virus particles chosen to bind a desired material.
