Abstract: Methods and devices to build and use multi-functional scattering structures. The disclosed methods and devices account for multiple target functions and can be implemented using fabrication methods based on two-photon polymerization or multi-layer lithography. Exemplary devices functioning as wave splitters are also described. Results confirming the performance and benefits of the disclosed teachings are also described.

Abstract: An ultrasonic imaging device includes an ultrasonic generating unit and an ultrasonic imaging processing unit. The ultrasonic generating unit repeatedly turns on N of M ultrasonic array elements of the ultrasonic probe multiple times as a group of array elements for linear scanning, and each scan is to emit an ultrasonic signal by each group of array elements and receive an echo signal of the ultrasonic signal. The ultrasonic imaging processing unit extracts a central echo signal from the echo signal in each scan to form a channel signal, and according to the arrival time of the echo signals, each central echo signal in the channel signal is delayed and summed to generate a modified channel signal. The modified channel signal is subjected to image synthesis process to obtain an ultrasonic image.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating depth models and depth maps from images obtained from an imaging system are presented. A self-supervised neural network may be capable of regularizing depth information from surface normals. Rather than rely on separate depth and surface normal networks, surface normal information is extracted from the depth information and a smoothness function is applied to the surface normals instead of a depth gradient. Smoothing the surface normal may provide improved representation of environmental structures by both smoothing texture-less areas while preserving sharp boundaries between structures.

The method uses oppositely charged fumed oxide nano-particles (silica and alumina) to stabilize oil-in-water Pickering emulsions wherein the stabilized Pickering emulsions can be used as a template for preparing porous mullite material. An optimised Pickering emulsion template that is stabilised with fumed oxide nano-particles (silica and alumina) is used to produce a green body that is transformed into solid porous material with a controlled porosity and pore size by sintering.

Abstract: The present invention provides a nanomechanical sensor unsusceptible to water vapor, due to very low sensitivity to water vapor, that may interfere with measurement. In an embodiment of the present invention, as a sensitive film material of a nanomechanical sensor such as a surface stress sensor, poly(2,6-diphenyl-p-phenylene oxide) is utilized that is used for adsorption/concentration of a substance present in a trace amount in water or air, and represented by Formula (1) wherein n represents an integer of 1 or more. As can be seen from graphs showing changes over time of response signals in a case where a gas to be measured containing acetone, ethanol, and the like and nitrogen are alternately supplied to the surface stress sensor cyclically, it was confirmed that in the sensitive film of the present invention, adsorption/desorption of the components in the gas to be measured significantly occurs in response to the cyclic change, but the sensitivity to water is very low.

Abstract: Provided is a method of operating a neuron in a neuromorphic system. The method includes evaluating a membrane potential value at a corresponding time when receiving an input spike, time-modulating a synaptic weight of the membrane potential value and converting the time-modulated synaptic weight into a membrane potential value at a reference time, and generating an output spike when the membrane potential value at the reference time exceeds a certain threshold value. The membrane potential value at the reference time is represented by a floating point number including a predetermined bit of exponent and mantissa, and the floating point number includes time information. The method further includes accessing a memory and scanning a neural state variable when a timer is updated to “0” to update the neural state variable to an updated value at a reference time.
