Abstract: Provided is an apparatus for concurrently detecting a defect occurring in a heat exchanger tube and a geometric transition of the heat exchanger tube. The apparatus for detecting the state of a heat exchanger tube, including: the first detection unit detecting a defect of the heat exchanger tube; and the second detection unit detecting a geometric transition of the heat exchanger tube, in which the first detection unit and the second detection unit are disposed at the same circumferential position of a cylindrical body separately, installed to have a certain distance in the lengthwise direction of the cylindrical body, and inserted inside the heat exchanger tube. According to the present invention, not only a defect but also the type of geometric transition, which may accelerate the initiation and growth of a defect, is identified and the size of the geometric transition is concurrently measured, thereby improving the reliability in early detection of a defect.

Abstract: Provided is a dispersion-shifted fiber for an optical parametric amplifier. The dispersion-shifted fiber is a silica-based optical fiber and has a large nonlinear coefficient and a small effective area. The dispersion-shifted fiber also reduces a bending loss and a splice loss due to a mode field diameter difference between it and a conventional single mode fiber. For this, the dispersion-shifted fiber comprises a rectangular core with a very small radius and a high refractive index, a depressed inner clad, and an outer clad with a ring. The core and/or the inner clad are/is doped with a heavy metal.

Abstract: A method for constructing and addressing a nanoscale memory with known addresses and for tolerating defects which may arise during manufacture or device operational lifetime. During construction, nanoscale wires with addresses are stochastically assembled. During a programming phase, nanoscale wires are stochastically selected using their stochastic addresses through microscale inputs and a desired address code is associated with the selected nanoscale wires. Memory addresses are associated to the codes and then selected using the known codes during read/write operations from/to the memory.

Abstract: A method for fabricating a thermal inkjet head equipped with a symmetrical heater and the head fabricated by the method are provided. The method incorporates two thick photoresist deposition processes and a nickel electroplating process. The first thick photoresist deposition process is carried out to form an ink chamber in fluid communication with a funnel-shaped manifold and an injector orifice. The second thick photoresist deposition process forms a mold for forming an injector passageway that leads to the injector orifice. The nickel electroplating process provides an orifice plate on top of the inkjet head through which an injector passageway that leads to the injector orifice is provided for injecting ink droplets.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a optimization method based on an evolution strategy according to which a model/structure/shape/design to be optimized is described by parameter sets comprising object parameters. The object parameters are mutated to create offsprings of the parameter set. The quality of the offsprings is evaluated. The parameter set furthermore comprises at least one strategy parameter representing the step-size of the mutation (f.e. the variance of the normal distribution) of associated object parameters. The number of object parameters as well as the number of associated strategy parameters can be adapted during the optimization process. The value of newly inserted strategy parameters can be estimated based on the information of correlated object parameters.

Abstract: A link method for establishing a link between two bluetooth devices is provided to enable a device to transfer data to/from other device located in a bluetooth scatternet. The link method executes a link initialization procedure when resetting or initializing a link to determine whether the role of the bluetooth device at a dedicated link is a slave or master. Then, in the link search establishment procedure, it searches all possible paths for transferring data packet and establishes a link path table. Finally, when the link detection timer expires after a pre-determined period, the link detection procedure is resumed to detect whether the link is existed. If the link is not existed, the link initialization procedure is executed; otherwise, it further determines whether to execute the link initialization procedure again. If yes, the link initialization procedure is executed, otherwise the link detection procedure is executed.
Abstract: Clock generators capable of generating clocks with different frequency according to a binary code. A voltage controlled oscillation module generates a plurality of first clocks (D0˜Dm) with a first frequency (f0), in which the first clocks Di and Di-1 have a fixed phase difference and 1<i<m. A logic control circuit outputs a set of corresponding clocks arranged in a corresponding sequence according to the first clocks and a binary code. A clock synthesizer generates a second clock with a second frequency (f1) according to the set of corresponding clocks, in which f1=A/B f0, A<B and A and B are positive integers.

Abstract: A broad bandwidth detector to measure intensity information of terahertz (THz) frequency pulses. The detector includes: coupling optics coupled to a coherent optical source; a GaSe substrate aligned such that the probe beam path intersects a first surface at a phase-matching angle; a polarization detector aligned in the probe beam path; and calculation means coupled to the polarization detector. The coupling optics direct the probe optical beam along a beam path that is substantially collinear with the pulse beam path of the THz frequency pulses. The polarization of the probe optical beam is varied based on interactions between the probe optical beam and the THz frequency pulses within the GaSe substrate. The polarization detector detects the varied polarization of the probe optical beam. The calculation means determine the intensity information of the THz frequency pulses based on the detected probe polarization of the probe optical beam.
