Abstract: A compliant mechanism is provided for accurate and precision alignment of mechanical component parts, surfaces or assemblies and the like, where low-cost, accurate, and repeatable alignment are desired. The compliant mechanism may be used in applications that require high precision alignment and where the relative location of coupled components must be variable or adjustable. The compliant mechanism includes a stage coupled to a plurality of hinges, at least one tab coupled to one of the hinges, and a support coupled to the tab. The relative position of the stage and the support may be adjusted by actuating (i.e., displacing) the tab(s) or other parts of the structure, to enable controlled movement in six degrees of freedom therebetween.

Abstract: This invention involves a two-level variable chip rate spreading and despreading method used in CDMA systems. The total spreading gain is the product of the two level spreading factors. Orthogonal sequences, ZCZ sequences and Pseudo-Noise (PN) sequences can be employed as the first- and second-level spreading codes. By employing the two-level spreading method, the interference existing in the systems can be suppressed efficiently and the system performance can be improved significantly.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there are provide novel receptor interacting factors, referred to herein as “SMRT”, i.e., a silencing mediator (co-repressor) for retinoic acid receptor (RAR) and thyroid hormone receptor (TR). SMRT is a novel protein whose association with RAR and TR both in solution and on DNA response elements is destabilized by ligand. The interaction of SMRT with mutant receptors correlates with the transcriptional silencing activities of receptors. In vivo, SMRT functions as a potent co-repressor. A GAL4 DNA binding domain (DBD) fusion of SMRT behaves as a frank repressor of a GAL4-dependent reporter. Together, these data identify a novel class of cofactor which is believed to represent an important mediator of hormone action.

Abstract: Bifunctional molecules comprising two hsp-binding moieties which bind to hsp90 in the pocket to which ansamycin antibiotics bind connected via a linker are effective for inducing the degradation and/or inhibition of HER-family tyrosine kinases. For example, a compound of two geldanamycin moities joined by a four-carbon linker provides selective degradation of HER-family tyrosine kinases, without substantially affecting other kinases. These compounds can be used for treatment of HER-positive cancers with reduced toxicity, since these compounds potently kill cancer cells but affect fewer proteins than geldanamycin.

Abstract: QoS router system and method are provided for effectively processing fragmented IP packets transmitted over a network. When receiving a first fragmented IP packet of a set from a flow, a router determines whether to allow the first packet to pass or to drop by according to predefined QoS rules. A pass status is recorded in a record if the packet is allowed to pass. A drop status is recorded in the record if the packet is dropped. When receiving other fragmented IP packet of the same set, the router determines whether to allow the fragmented packet to pass or to drop by according to the previous record. If the record is drop status, the packet is dropped, and if the record is pass status, the packet is allowed to pass when the used bandwidth of the flow does not exceeds a predetermined bandwidth.
Abstract: Described is a tile module for a phased array system. The tile module includes array elements configured in a two-dimensional array which is part of a larger subarray in the phased array system. A control module communicates with each array element to control a phase shift and an attenuation. In one embodiment a two-dimensional overlapped subarray manifold provides a weighted combination of RF signals received by the array elements of the tile module and array elements of other tile modules disposed in the same subarray of the phased array system. In another embodiment the two-dimensional overlapped subarray manifold distributes to the array elements weighted combinations of transmit RF signals applied to the tile module and other tile modules disposed in the same subarray. Advantageously, tile modules can be fabricated in large quantities, can be tested and calibrated independently, and can easily be installed or replaced in the phased array system.
