Abstract: The present invention provides a wet or dry bio-sensitized photoelectric conversion device (photodetector or photovoltaic) comprising: a stabilized biologically-derived sensitizer, such as a stablilized photosystem I (PS-I), deposited on nanowires, semiconductor material, electrodes and a support. The nanowires provide a greater surface area of the light absorption layer for better energy conversion efficiency and are chosen such as to complement the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer and protect the sensitizer from photobleaching.

Abstract: A method for generating a parity check matrix of a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. A base matrix is generated in which elements with a value of 1 are arranged at predefined distances. The elements with the value of 1 in the base matrix are replaced with predefined sub-matrices. The method can improve the performance of the LDPC code by implementing the parity check matrix in which the number of 4-cycles or 6-cycles adversely affecting the LDPC code performance is minimized.

Abstract: A method for constructing and addressing a nanoscale memory with known addresses and for tolerating defects which may arise during manufacture or device operational lifetime. During construction, nanoscale wires with addresses are stochastically assembled. During a programming phase, nanoscale wires are stochastically selected using their stochastic addresses through microscale inputs and a desired address code is associated with the selected nanoscale wires. Memory addresses are associated to the codes and then selected using the known codes during read/write operations from/to the memory.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a optimization method based on an evolution strategy according to which a model/structure/shape/design to be optimized is described by parameter sets comprising object parameters. The object parameters are mutated to create offsprings of the parameter set. The quality of the offsprings is evaluated. The parameter set furthermore comprises at least one strategy parameter representing the step-size of the mutation (f.e. the variance of the normal distribution) of associated object parameters. The number of object parameters as well as the number of associated strategy parameters can be adapted during the optimization process. The value of newly inserted strategy parameters can be estimated based on the information of correlated object parameters.
Abstract: A method for fabricating a thermal inkjet head equipped with a symmetrical heater and the head fabricated by the method are provided. The method incorporates two thick photoresist deposition processes and a nickel electroplating process. The first thick photoresist deposition process is carried out to form an ink chamber in fluid communication with a funnel-shaped manifold and an injector orifice. The second thick photoresist deposition process forms a mold for forming an injector passageway that leads to the injector orifice. The nickel electroplating process provides an orifice plate on top of the inkjet head through which an injector passageway that leads to the injector orifice is provided for injecting ink droplets.

Abstract: Provided is a dispersion-shifted fiber for an optical parametric amplifier. The dispersion-shifted fiber is a silica-based optical fiber and has a large nonlinear coefficient and a small effective area. The dispersion-shifted fiber also reduces a bending loss and a splice loss due to a mode field diameter difference between it and a conventional single mode fiber. For this, the dispersion-shifted fiber comprises a rectangular core with a very small radius and a high refractive index, a depressed inner clad, and an outer clad with a ring. The core and/or the inner clad are/is doped with a heavy metal.
