Abstract: A resin which is prepared by polymerizing a monomer component incorporating a hydrophilic spacer, and a ligand-immobilized solid phase carrier obtained by immobilizing a ligand to the resin, are capable of reducing the non-specific adsorption of substances, other than the target molecule for the ligand, which mingle in the sample, to the resin and/or the ligand. Therefore, target molecule search, identification and the like with less noise are enabled.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to catalyst systems and methods for oxidation of carbon monoxide. The invention involves catalyst compositions which may be advantageously altered by, for example, modification of the catalyst surface to enhance catalyst performance. Catalyst systems of the present invention may be capable of performing the oxidation of carbon monoxide at relatively lower temperatures (e.g., 200 K and below) and at relatively higher reaction rates than known catalysts. Additionally, catalyst systems disclosed herein may be substantially lower in cost than current commercial catalysts. Such catalyst systems may be useful in, for example, catalytic converters, fuel cells, sensors, and the like.
Abstract: A coding scheme for data is presented in which data is encoded and decoded such that a sequence of unconstrained input binary symbols, such as 1's and 0's, is encoded into a representation according to an alphabet comprising allowable time intervals between adjacent input binary symbols according to a precision parameter p, a minimum resolution parameter ?, and resolution restriction functions L(t) and R(t), thereby defining a precision-resolution (PR) constrained code, and is modulated into an output signal comprising a waveform having signal peaks corresponding to the representation and separated according to the PR-constrained code for transmission of the output signal over the data channel. In this discussion, the minimum resolution parameter is denoted as a and is not limited to integer values.
Abstract: A high-density channels detecting device for detecting a sample is provided. The high density detecting-device has a light source for emitting a light beam, a collimator, a beam splitter, and a high-density channels imaging device. The collimator arranged on the beam path is used for collimating the emitted light beam. The beam splitter reflects the light beam incident from the collimator to the sample, and the light beam reflected by the sample passes through the beam splitter. The imaging device receives the light beam passing through the beam splitter, and has a light collector and a multi-channel kernel module for receiving the light beam from the light collector. By using the light collector, the light beam incident to the kernel module is parallel to the optical axis of the kernel module.

Abstract: An anode supported electrochemical device, such as a SOFC, is disclosed. A thin layer of electrolyte 310 is supported on an anode layer comprised of an active anode layer 320 and a bulk anode layer 340. The bulk anode layer includes silicon carbide 340 in an amount between about 0.5 and 10% by weight. A cathode layer on an opposing side of the electrolyte completes the cell. The presence of the silicon carbide 340 in the supporting anode layer 340 has been found to reduce room temperature camber due to thermal expansion coefficient mismatches.

Abstract: Incident signal beam pulses are transmitted by an on-state region, and an optical path for the signal beam pulses is spatially switched in an optical switch. Signal beam pulses transmitted by the on-state region of the optical switch are detected at a pixel corresponding to a transmitting region of a photo-detector equipped with a plurality of pixels. A timing computation unit acquires position information of a pixel at which a predetermined signal beam pulse has been detected, on the basis of a result of the detection conducted by the photo-detector, and computes timing of arrival of a predetermined signal beam pulse at the optical switch on the basis of the position information of the pixel and time when a region corresponding to the pixel is brought to an on-state.

Abstract: Lookback is defined as the ability of a logical process to change its past locally (without involving other logical processes). Logical processes with lookback are able to process out-of-timestamp order events, enabling new synchronization protocols for the parallel discrete event simulation. Two of such protocols, LB-GVT (LookBack-Global Virtual Time) and LB-EIT (LookBack-Earliest Input Time), are presented and their performances on the Closed Queuing Network (CQN) simulation are compared with each other. Lookback can be used to reduce the rollback frequency in optimistic simulations. The relation between lookahead and lookback is also discussed in detail. Finally, it is shown that lookback allows conservative simulations to circumvent the speedup limit imposed by the critical path.
