Patent number: 7232938Abstract: A method of reconstituting an animal embryo involves transferring the nucleus from a quiescent donor cell into a suitable recipient cell. The donor cell is quiescent, in that it is caused to exit from the growth and division cycle at G1 and to arrest in the G0 state. Nuclear transfer may take place by cell fusion. The reconstituted embryo may then give rise to one or more animals. The invention is useful in the production of transgenic animals as well as non-transgenics of high genetic merit.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2004Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: Roslin InstituteInventors: Keith Henry Stockman Campbell, Ian Wilmut

Patent number: 7233018Abstract: Provided are high voltage metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (HVMOSFET) having a Si/SiGe heterojunction structure and method of manufacturing the same. In this method, a substrate on which a Si layer, a relaxed SiGe epitaxial layer, a SiGe epitaxial layer, and a Si epitaxial layer are stacked or a substrate on which a Si layer having a well region, a SiGe epitaxial layer, and a Si epitaxial layer are stacked is formed. For the device having the heterojunction structure, the number of conduction carriers through a potential well and the mobility of the carriers increase to reduce an on resistance, thus increasing saturation current. Also, an intensity of vertical electric field decreases so that a breakdown voltage can be maintained at a very high level. Further, a reduction in vertical electric field due to the heterojunction structure leads to a gain in transconductance (Gm), with the results that a hot electron effect is inhibited and the reliability of the device is enhanced.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2005Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: Electronics and Telecommunications Research InstituteInventors: Young Kyun Cho, Sung Ku Kwon, Tae Moon Roh, Dae Woo Lee, Jong Dae Kim

Patent number: 7232566Abstract: Methods for inducing a population of T cells to proliferate by activating the population of T cells and stimulating an accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells with a ligand which binds the accessory molecule are described. T cell proliferation occurs in the absence of exogenous growth factors or accessory cells. T cell activation is accomplished by stimulating the T cell receptor (TCR)/CD3 complex or the CD2 surface protein. To induce proliferation of an activated population T cells, an accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells, such as CD28, is stimulated with a ligand which binds the accessory molecule. The T cell population expanded by the method of the invention can be genetically transduced and used for immunotherapy or can be used in methods of diagnosis.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2005Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignees: The United States as represented by the Secretary of the Navy, The Regents of the University of Michigan, Genetics Institute, LLCInventors: Carl H. Patent number: 7233635Abstract: A symbol synchronization apparatus and method for synchronizing symbol digitally is disclosed. In the present invention, digital symbols are generated by an A/D converting unit. Based on digital symbols, a symbol timing value is calculated. The symbol timing value is used for determining a best symbol timing. According to the best symbol timing, a clock phase is determined and A/D converting unit uses newly determined clock for generating digital symbols. As a result, the present invention can perform an over-sampling process in higher resolution than a sampling frequency by using only one A/D converter. Therefore, the present invention may increase economic efficient and reduce complexity of hardware.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: Electronics and Telecommunications Research InstituteInventors: Seung-Hwan Lee, Eung Bae Kim, Nam Il Kim, Seung-Kwon Back

Patent number: 7233430Abstract: An optical, multi-channel, Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) receiver demodulates multiple Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels using a single interferometer. This distributes expense of the interferometer over all channels of an optical signal, allowing for deployment of cost-effective, scalable, wideband, WDM DPSK systems. For example, for an 80 channel WDM link, the receiver uses a single interferometer instead of eighty interferometers and associated stabilization hardware, dramatically reducing size, weight, power, and cost. The receiver is architecturally compatible with existing interferometer technologies so previous development and qualification efforts can be leveraged. This allows for expedited technology insertion into existing optical communications networks, including terrestrial and space-based optical networks.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2004Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventor: David O.
