  • Publication number: 20060222862
Abstract: A material composed of brittle material fine particles, such as ceramic or metalloid fine particles, for forming a composite structure on a substrate surface. The brittle material is pretreated to achieve a specific size range of fine particles and to develop a desired range of internal strain therein. The brittle material fine particles are adapted to form an aerosol with a gas stream, and when the aerosol is ejected to collide with a substrate surface, this causes collision of brittle material fine particles with a substrate surface thus imparting a mechanical impact to the fine particles. Such mechanical impact fractures or deforms the particles, and thereby generates an active new surface for brittle material fine particles after being fractured or deformed.

  • Publication number: 20060219889
Abstract: Techniques and instrumentation are described for analyses of substances, including complex samples/mixtures that require separation prior to characterization of individual components. A method is disclosed for separation of ion mixtures and identification of ions, including protein and other macromolecular ions and their different structural isomers. Analyte ions are not free to rotate during the separation, but are substantially oriented with respect to the drift direction. Alignment is achieved by applying, at a particular angle to the drift field, a much stronger alternating electric field that “locks” the ion dipoles with moments exceeding a certain value. That value depends on the buffer gas composition, pressure, and temperature, but may be as low as ˜3 Debye under certain conditions.

  • Publication number: 20060220403
Abstract: A micro gripper and a method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. The manufacturing method of the micro gripper supplies a fluid to a penetration hole of a gripper jaw, and discharges the fluid from opposite surfaces of the first and second structures of the micro gripper, thereby completely detaching the object attached on the opposite surfaces of the first and second structures by electrostatic force and removing the stiction. Furthermore, the present invention can grip the object more strongly by sucking the fluid from the penetration hole of the gripper jaw, when the first and second structures of the gripper jaw grip the object.

  • Publication number: 20060223312
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for depositing materials selectively and controllably from liquid, near-critical, and/or supercritical fluids to a substrate or surface controlling the location and/or thickness of material(s) deposited to the surface or substrate. In one exemplary process, metals are deposited selectively filling feature patterns (e.g., vias) of substrates. The process can be further used to control deposition of materials on sub-surfaces of composite or structured silicon wafers, e.g., for the deposition of barrier films on silicon wafer surfaces. Materials include, but are not limited to, overburden materials, metals, non-metals, layered materials, organics, polymers, and semiconductor materials. The instant invention finds application in such commercial processes as semiconductor chip manufacturing.
