Abstract: A fault localization apparatus for an optical line in a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network is disclosed. The apparatus can detect light loss and fault positions as a channel exhibiting an abnormal receiving state of signals received by each of the upstream receivers is checked, and a monitoring optical signal is used, in which the monitoring optical signal is generated as a pulse is inputted to a light source of the downstream transmitter corresponding to the channel showing such an abnormal receiving state. The apparatus according to the present invention can detect fault positions of optical lines between the central office and the remote nodes and between the remote nodes and the optical network units, since the light source of downstream channel in which faults occur is used as a monitoring light source. The apparatus according to the present invention can be cost-effectively implemented.

Abstract: It has been found that the polysaccharide isolated from a hot water extract of a Tremella mushroom without adding a chemical reagent has a novel effect of inhibiting melanin formation effects, so it can be used to lighten the spots on the skin when being applied to the skin. In addition, the Tremella polysaccharide of the present invention has excellent moisturizing effect.
Abstract: A fermention process is monitored by detecting ultrasound backscattered from the cells as a function of time. A transducer 46 is placed in a fermentor 30 and transmits ultrasound towards a reflecting surface 50. The transducer receives that portion of the ultrasound which reflects from the reflecting surface 50, as well as that portion of the ultrasound which backscatters from cells 34 between the transducer 46 and the reflecting surface 50. Signals from the transducer are conditioned and subsequently processed to provide output to a controller regarding the status of the fermentation process in real time. The backscattering measurements can be used to determine a growth phase transition, such as the transition between the logarithmic growth phase of the cells and their stationary phase.

Abstract: The present red light-emitting device includes a substrate with a first window layer, a silicon dioxide layer positioned on the first window layer, a plurality of silicon nanocrystals distributed in the silicon dioxide layer, a second window layer, a transparent conductive layer and a first ohmic contact electrode positioned in sequence on the silicon dioxide layer, and a second ohmic contact electrode positioned on the bottom surface of the substrate. The present method forms a sub-stoichiometric silica (SiOx) layer on a substrate, wherein the numerical ratio (x) of oxygen atoms to silicon atoms is smaller than 2. A thermal treating process is then performed in an oxygen atmosphere to transform the SiOx layer into a silicon dioxide layer with a plurality of silicon nanocrystals distributed therein. The thickness of the silicon dioxide layer is between 1 and 10,000 nanometers, and the diameter of the silicon nanocrystal is between 3 and 5 nanometers.

Abstract: Action on the tested wafer 1 is rendered with X-ray beam 3 converging in a point located inside the wafer or under it. Determination of relative position of the interference maxima is performed for diffraction reflections from crystallographic planes having the form of {nKK}, where n is equal to H, K or L and differs for distinct crystallographic planes. Means 11 for beam shaping creates beam 3 simultaneously acting on multiple crystallographic planes. Detectors 13 receive diffracted radiation in the whole angular range containing the interference maxima corresponding to the reflections from the irradiated planes.

Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for assigning an Internet Protocol (IP) address using agents in a zero configuration network. The IP address assignment method involves: (a) receiving a registration request message of a user computer which contains a home agent IP address, and the ID and password of the user computer; (b) transmitting to the user computer an encoded address answer message which indicates permission of the address registration; and (c) setting up a network environment in the user computer by decoding the encoded address answer message. Problems of mobile IP extensibility and a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) authentication are solved by applying the concept of a mobile Internet protocol agent to the protocol in a zero configuration network.
