  • Patent number: 7089805
Abstract: An average bidirectional flow tube, including a body having two side plates and upper and lower plates, a partition plate installed to be perpendicular to the side plates of the body so that front and rear ends of the tube are separated from each other, and two pairs of pressure impulse lines installed at front and rear positions of the partition plate. The upper and lower plates of the body each have a curvature to be in contact with an inner surface of a pipe in which the average bidirectional flow tube is installed, and each of the pressure impulse lines is installed to communicate with an interior of the pipe. Although a two-phase flow occurs in the pipe or the flow of the fluid flowing in the pipe is changed, an average flow rate of a fluid can be measured. Particularly, it is easy to measure an average flow rate of the fluid when the fluid flows at a low speed. Further, even when sudden pressure reduction occurs in the pipe, an additional cooling device is not required.

  • Patent number: 7090774
Abstract: The invention encompasses a method of packing and unpacking a column chamber. A mixture of a fluid and a matrix material are introduced through a column chamber inlet so that the matrix material is packed within a column chamber to form a packed column. The column chamber having the column chamber inlet or first port for receiving the mixture further has an outlet port and an actuator port. The outlet port is partially closed for capturing the matrix material and permitting the fluid to flow therepast by rotating relative one to the other of a rod placed in the actuator port. Further rotation relative one to the other of the rod and the column chamber opens the outlet and permits the matrix material and the fluid to flow therethrough thereby unpacking the matrix material from the column chamber.

  • Patent number: 7092590
Abstract: Methods of tuning, switching or modulating, or, in general, changing the resonance of waveguide micro-resonators. Changes in the resonance can be brought about, permanently or temporarily, by changing the size of the micro-resonator with precision, by changing the local physical structure of the device or by changing the effective and group indices of refraction of the mode in the micro-resonator. Further changing the asymmetry of the index profile around a waveguide can alter the birefringence of the waveguide and allows one to control the polarization in the waveguide. This change in index profile may be used to change the polarization dependence or birefringence of the resonators.
