  • Patent number: 11456573
Abstract: Single-mode distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers including single mode DFB waveguides with tapered grating structures are provided herein. Tapered grating structures provide for single mode DFB waveguides with predictable single mode operation. Uniform grating structures may provide for single mode operation, however DFB waveguides implementing uniform grating structures may operate at one of two single modes. Advantageously, DFB waveguides with tapered gratings operate with a spectrally narrow single mode at the same predictable single mode for all DFB waveguides with substantially identical specifications. Such predictability may lead to increased yield during manufacture of DFB waveguides with tapered gratings.

  • Patent number: 11457132
Abstract: In illustrative implementations, an imaging system may comprise a lens, an optical cavity and a time-of-flight camera. The imaging system may capture an image of a scene. The image may be formed by light that is from the scene and that passes through the optical cavity and the lens. In some cases, the lens is in front of the optical cavity, enabling the Euclidean distance between the lens and the camera sensor to be less than the nominal focal length of the lens. In some cases, the lens is inside the optical cavity, enabling the camera to acquire ultrafast multi-zoom images without moving or changing the shape of any optical element. In some cases, the lens is behind the optical cavity, enabling the system to perform ultrafast multi-spectral imaging. In other cases, an optical cavity between the scene and time-of-camera enables ultrafast ellipsometry measurements or ultrafast spatial frequency filtering.

  • Patent number: 11454603
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to realize a dew point measurement in which the generation of dew condensation is directly detected and the detection can be performed without using any optical system. In particular, the purpose of the present invention is to realize a dew point measuring device that is compact and has a high sensitivity. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a sudden change in current values before and after the dew point is detected by detecting the dew condensation to detect a galvanic current that flows due to a water droplet attached onto a surface of an insulating substrate on which thin wires of dissimilar metals are juxtaposed, and by controlling the temperature on the surface of the substrate. In this way, the dew point measurement in which the dew point can be directly measured and a measurement with simple configuration and high accuracy can be performed can be realized.

  • Patent number: 11454770
Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for adjusting an optical axis. In the apparatus, an iris diaphragm and a quadrant photodiode (QPD) are used to align optical axes of an optical system of the apparatus so that optical transmission efficiency between an optical transmitter and an optical receiver can be increased. Since a hole of the iris diaphragm can be adjusted to be small, a beam larger than a light-receiving area of the QPD can be included in the light-receiving area, and optical axis alignment is facilitated accordingly. When the QPD and the iris diaphragm are applied to the apparatus, it is possible to simultaneously perform data transmission, tracking, and optical axis alignment. An optical fiber end surface and optical axes of lenses arranged in parallel are aligned in the apparatus so that alignment between two terminals can be easy and reception efficiency can be increased.

  • Patent number: 11453963
Abstract: A sensor may include a knitted pocket and loose yarn that is inside a cavity of the pocket. In some cases, this loose yarn is neither woven, nor knit, nor otherwise part of a fabric. A resistive pressure sensor may include a knitted pocket and loose conductive yarn that is inside the pocket. Pressure applied to the pocket may compress the loose yarn, which may increase the number of electrical shorts between different parts of the loose yarn, which in turn may decrease the electrical resistance of the loose yarn. A capacitive sensor may include a knitted pocket and insulative loose yarn that is inside the pocket. A strain sensor may include knitted conductive pleats. Electrical shorts may occur in contact areas where neighboring pleats meet. As the strain sensor stretches, these contact areas may become smaller, causing the electrical resistance of the pleats as a group to increase.
