Abstract: Splitting data in a wireless communications network. Data may be split to use multiple base stations for transmission to user equipment in order to improve the bandwith if a UE is on a cell edge, or may be split by user equipment for transmission to multiple base stations in order to improve handover. Data splitting may be performed at the Packet Data Convergence Protocol layer, at the Radio Link Control layer, or at the Media Access Control layer on user equipment or on a base station. Data may instead be split in a network node, such as in a serving gateway, in order to reduce X2 interface load or delay carrier aggregation.

Abstract: A method for determining padding compatibility is disclosed. A determination is made of a number of protocol data units (PDUs) for a logical channel mapped to a transport channel such that, for a logical channel allowing segmentation, calculate n wherein n=service data unit size/transport block size (SDU size/TB size), and on a condition that n is an integer, setting the number of PDUs=n.

Abstract: A network device and wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) using an enhanced high speed medium access control (MAC-ehs) are disclosed. A network device may provide a MAC-ehs reordering protocol data unit (PDU) with a segment of a service data unit (SDU). A MAC-ehs PDU is generated including the MAC-ehs reordering PDU. The MAC-ehs PDU is sent via a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH). The WTRU disassembles MAC-ehs PDUs to provide reordering PDUs that each may include a segment of a MAC-ehs SDU. The WTRU may reassemble a MAC-ehs SDU with the segment of the MAC-ehs SDU from at least one of the reordering PDUs.

Abstract: A base station configured for outer loop power control receives an uplink dedicated channel transmission from a wireless transmit/receive unit. The base station transmits transmit power control commands in response to the received uplink channel transmission and determines if the wireless transmit/receive unit is in a discontinuous transmission mode. The base station adjusts a target SIR based on which transmission mode for the wireless transmit/receive unit is detected. The value for the transmit power control command is derived from the adjusted target SIR.

Abstract: The invention includes several embodiments for slot assignment in code division multiple access communication systems. One embodiment for fixed beams assigns slots by first detecting a beam having the best received quality and selected the best slot from that beam. Another fixed beam embodiment determines the best slot or slots in a number of beams and determines the overall best beam/slot combination. Another fixed beam embodiment uses a modified interference factor. One embodiment for the uplink using adaptive arrays using a spatial analysis stage followed by a transmission power level estimation stage. An overall interference level associated with each slot is determined and a slot having the best overall quality is determined. Another embodiment for the downlink uses the spatial analysis and slot assignment of the uplink for the downlink. Another embodiment for the downlink uses a spatial and transmission power level estimation stages.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding channel quality indicator (CQI) and precoding control information (PCI) bits are disclosed. Each of the input bits, such as CQI bits and/or PCI bits, has a particular significance. The input bits are encoded with a linear block coding. The input bits are provided with an unequal error protection based on the significance of each input bit. The input bits may be duplicated based on the significance of each input bit and equal protection coding may be performed. A generator matrix for the encoding may be generated by elementary operation of conventional basis sequences to provide more protection to a most significant bit (MSB).

Abstract: A method and system for switching a radio access technology (RAT) between wireless communication systems connected to each other while implementing different RATs with a multi-mode WTRU are disclosed. A plurality of wireless communication systems are deployed with overlapping coverage areas wherein each system implements different RATs and are connected to each other such that a service that is provided by one system may be provided through the other system. Each wireless communication system transmits an indication of the existence of an inter-working wireless communication system in a coverage area of each system. The WTRU receives the indication and information regarding the inter-working wireless communication system.

Abstract: A method of feedback in a wireless transmit receive unit includes providing a precoding matrix index (PMI), error checking the (PMI) to produce an error check (EC) bit, coding the PMI and the EC bit and transmitting the coded PMI and EC bit.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a solution to the handoff problem includes negotiation of new media codes (coders/decoders) for utilization in cases where the two devices involved in the handoff are incompatible. Although mobile IP (MIP) is presently utilized to perform handoff procedures, this technique lacks a trigger mechanism to initiate handoff between two different devices which communicate with two different networks or one common network. In addition, MIP does not address the issue of compatibilities between media types, codes and supported bit rate. The handoff utilizes a session protocol (SIP) message for handoff.
Abstract: A method and system for reporting short message (SM) capability over an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) using a session initiation protocol (SIP) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) registers with a core network and sends a message indicating its SM capability via the IMS to the core network. The core network then updates the WTRU capabilities based on the message and routes an SM to the WTRU via the IMS.
Abstract: Several methods are provided for communicating emergency call capability information between a station and an access point (AP) in a wireless local area network. The methods include advertising by the AP of its emergency call capabilities and announcing by the station of its emergency call capabilities. The AP can advertise its emergency call capabilities in a beacon frame, a probe response frame, a reassociation response frame, or a reauthentication response frame. The station can announce its emergency call capabilities in an association request frame, a reassociation request frame, an authentication request frame, or a reauthentication request frame.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for providing an automatic handoff process of a user equipment (UE) from either a wireless local area network (WLAN) to a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) or from a UMTS to a WLAN. Handoffs may be initiated by the UE, based upon user preference, signal quality, comparison of location coordinates of the UE and the system to be switched to or signal quality. The available channels of one system may be broadcast to the UE by the other system or the UE may monitor channels of the system to be switched to and lock on to one. The handoff may also be initiated by the UMTS, the selection being power-based.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adaptive uplink/downlink resource assignment may include determining uplink interference associated with each of several uplink resources. The method and apparatus may produce an uplink list with values for the uplink resources. The method and apparatus may compare a downlink power level to a threshold for each of the downlink resources and produce a downlink list. The downlink list may be a bit stream providing an indication, for each downlink resource, indicating whether each of the downlink resources have a downlink power level which is less than or equal to the threshold. The method and apparatus may send the uplink and downlink lists. The method and apparatus may receive an uplink list and a downlink list from each of several neighboring wireless network devices. The method and apparatus may schedule uplink and downlink resources to a user equipment based on the uplink and downlink lists received.

Grant information is received from at least one network node of the plurality of network nodes. The grant information is based on the transmitted CSI and includes an indication of a cooperative scheme. A plurality of beam-formed signals, including data from each of the plurality of network nodes, is received in response to the received grant information. The same data is received from each of the plurality of network nodes.
