Abstract: Method and apparatus delivering voice/data services within a piconet operating over a limited range or over a WLAN communicating with 3GPP devices by reformatting data into IP format before delivering to the WLAN. The service is short message service (SMS). Upon receipt of an SMS message, relevant routing information is retrieved. A PDGW address for the SMS message is identified and is sent to the PDGW address which identifies the WLAN user equipment (UE) for receiving the SMS and reformats the SMS message into IP format (text or encapsulation) for delivery to the UE. A protocol architecture is provided for SMS delivery over WLANs, in particular, for UMTS/CDMA based SMS over WLAN through two alternative mechanisms, i.e., SMS tunneling and SMS proxy, for protocols for the delivery of SMS across the WLAN. The invention enhances standard 802.11 in the context of UMTS and CDMA 2000; as well as other scenarios.

Abstract: A method and wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for utilizing channel control information associated with enhanced uplink (EU) transmission is disclosed. The WTRU receives information via radio resource control (RRC) signaling and receives downlink (DL) control information for at least EU transmission. The WTRU determines whether the DL control information is intended for the WTRU based at least upon a first forty bit specific code sequence and a second forty bit specific code sequence received in at least one time slot and determines whether the DL control information is the first type or the second type. The WTRU utilizes the DL control information of the first type or the second type for at least EU transmission on a condition that the DL control information is intended for the WTRU.

Abstract: A method and system for the UE and RNC to reduce transmission latency and potentially prevent loss of PDUs upon a MAC-hs layer reset. The RNC generates a radio resource control (RRC) message with a MAC-hs reset indication. The MAC reset indication requires the UE to flush buffers for configured HARQ processes, disassemble MAC protocol data units (PDUs) in the reordering buffers, deliver MAC-d PDUs to a MAC-d layer, and configure the MAC-hs to receive new data.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing data security and automatic repeat request (ARQ) in a wireless communication system are disclosed. Cipher entities are included in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and an access gateway (aGW), and outer ARQ, (or radio link control (RLC)), entities are included in the WTRU and an evolved Node-B (eNode-B). Each cipher entity is located on top of an outer ARQ entity. The cipher entities cipher and decipher a data block by using a generic sequence number (SN) assigned to the data block. The outer ARQ entities may segment the ciphered data block to multiple packet data units (PDUs), may concatenate multiple ciphered data blocks to a PDU, or may generate one PDU from one data block. The outer ARQ entities may segment or re-segment the PDU when a transmission failure occurs.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronization in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) evolved universal terrestrial radio access (E-UTRA) system including at least one base station and a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs). A secondary synchronization channel (S-SCH) symbol is generated to include cell-specific information. The S-SCH symbol is mapped to the center of the available bandwidth of the system. In one embodiment, the S-SCH symbol is transmitted on different subcarriers at different sectors in the system. In another embodiment, the S-SCH symbol is transmitted on the same subcarriers at different sectors in the system.

Abstract: A method for admission control of control plane signaling requests includes receiving a signaling request. Upon receipt of the signaling connection request, a first determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to common resources. When the first determination is negative, a second determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources. When the second determination is negative, the signaling request is rejected. When the second determination is positive, the request is admitted to dedicated resources. When the first determination is positive, a third determination is performed to determine whether the quality of the signaling request is high or low. If the quality of the request is high, the signaling request is admitted to common resources. When the quality is low, a fourth determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources.

Abstract: A code division multiple access (CDMA) communication device comprises a medium access controller (MAC) configured to receive data from a plurality of channels. Each channel is associated with a priority and an identifier. The MAC is further configured to multiplex the data of the plurality of channels for transmission over a CDMA channel based on the priority.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for radio resource control (RRC) messaging. A method in a wireless communication system includes receiving, at a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) an RRC change command including a plurality of commands from a Node B and receiving, at the Node B, an RRC change response from the WTRU, wherein the RRC change command includes a command for performing a measurement gap configuration procedure and a command for performing a measurement gap activation procedure.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling transmit and receive power level of a mesh point (MP) operating in a mesh wireless communication network of a plurality of MPs. Power capability information of a new MP is sent to at least one existing MP in the mesh network. The existing MP accepts the new MP as a member of the mesh network and sends allowed power setting information to the new MP. The new MP adjusts its power level in accordance with the allowed power setting information.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for handover between a 3GPP based network and a non-3GPP network is disclosed where a policy update to a new gateway is requested. A confirmation of the policy update is sent from the policy and charging rules function (PCRF) to the 3GPP packet data network gateway (PDN GW). The new gateway also confirms the policy update to the currently serving gateway. The tunnel endpoints and radio resources are released between the PDN GW and the evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG), thereby freeing the resources previously used by the wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). A release acknowledgement is sent from the serving gateway to the PCRF confirming the policy update process is complete. The method may be used for handover between 3GPP and non-3GPP networks and vice versa. The method and apparatus may be practiced over the S2b or S2c interfaces.

Abstract: A method and wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for uplink transmission are disclosed. A WTRU receives configuration information. The configuration information includes logical channel priority information and a maximum number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmissions. The WTRU receives an uplink grant for a transmission time interval (TTI). The WTRU identifies a HARQ process to use for uplink transmission for the TTI. The WTRU selects data for uplink transmission for the TTI. For a new uplink transmission, data associated with a highest priority is selected. The WTRU initializes a transmission counter. The transmission counter indicates a number of transmissions associated with the selected data. The WTRU transmits the selected data over an uplink channel based on the received uplink grant using the identified HARQ process.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending and receiving channel quality indicators (CQIs) is disclosed. A CQI may be periodically sent or received. A CQI may also be sent or received upon request by a network.

Abstract: Voiceband compression techniques are employed in order to enable an RF telecommunications base station to accommodate data signals of high speed voiceband modems and FAX machines. An Ultra-High Speed Codec supports voiceband modem and FAX transmissions up to 14.4 kb/s and operates using four 16-phase RF slots. Because these codecs transmit information over several RF slots which can be contiguous, the slots within RF communication channels are dynamically allocated. The Dynamic Time slot/Bandwidth Allocation feature detects and monitors the data transmission and forms a data channel from the necessary number of slots.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring buffered enhanced uplink (EU) data is disclosed. The WTRU transmits an EU data transmission request message. The WTRU determines, based on the EU data scheduling message, whether granted resources allow for the amount of EU data stored in the buffer to be transmitted and transmits a portion of the EU data stored in the buffer along with an indication indicating whether the granted resources allow the amount of EU data stored in the buffer to be transmitted.
