Abstract: An electromechanical monitoring device for detecting undesired departure of an elevator cage from standstill includes a co-running wheel which when required is pressed against a guide track of the elevator cage, possibly against a running diameter of the speed limiter. A sensor detects rotation of the co-running wheel and actuates a braking device if a rotational angle of the co-running wheel exceeds a predetermined value. This electromechanical monitoring device can be suitable for attachment to or installation in a speed limiter and can be suitable for retrofitting to elevator installations.
Abstract: A method of controlling access to an area accessible by persons, particularly to a space closed by a door, utilizes at least two communications units for transmitting and receiving an identification code and an access code. The identification code is transmitted at a predetermined first transmission power from a first communications unit to at least one second communications unit. The second communications unit checks the identification code and transmits an acknowledgement code at a second transmission power, which is lower than the first transmission power, from the second communications unit to the first communications unit if the check of the identification code was successful. The first communications unit transmits an access code to the second communications unit. After a successful check of the access code by the second communications unit the access is freed.

Abstract: An elevator installation includes an elevator cage with a support construction carrying the elevator cage, wherein the support construction has two beams. Mounted on each beam is a positioning arrangement on which, for example, a sensor is positioned, which is part of a load measuring device, wherein the positioning arrangements have material structures or sensor carriers. The sensors detect a change in spacing of the material structures or of the sensor carriers from one another, wherein this change in spacing is caused by a change in loading of the elevator cage. Signals of the sensors are processed in an evaluating unit and a signal representing the loading is used in an elevator control.

Abstract: A process for producing a support belt for an elevator system includes steps of: placing at least one cable-shaped tension support in position; embedding the tension support in a first belt layer made from a first plasticizable material to produce a partial belt having a first outer surface and a surface which forms a connecting plane, wherein parts of the tension support project out of the connecting plane and at least parts of the projecting portion of the tension support are covered by the first plasticizable material; and integrally forming a second belt layer made from a second plasticizable material on the connecting surface of the partial belt and the projecting portions of the tension support so as to produce a support belt having the first outer surface on the side of the first belt layer and a second outer surface on the side of the second belt layer.
Abstract: An elevator car includes supporting sections, which are arranged on a car frame. Each supporting section has a foot, a first arm and a second arm. The foot is fastened to the car frame, at their free ends the arms converge and form a slit-shaped constriction, into which panel sections of panels that form walls or a ceiling can be clipped. The arms possess spring properties and, at the constriction, can be moved apart against a spring force. The arms hold the panel sections in position in the area of the constriction.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for performing a load test in an elevator installation having an elevator car and a counterweight, which are connected to one another by a supporting device, and a drive brake for halting the elevator car during a downwards journey. The apparatus has a connecting element for fastening to the counterweight, an element with spring properties and a tensioning device for installation in the elevator installation. One point of the tensioning means is fixed to a stationary point of the elevator installation via the element with spring properties. Another point of the tensioning means is connected to the counterweight via the connecting element, wherein the tensioning device includes an actuating device with which to tension the element with spring properties in order to thereby exert a downwardly directed tensile stress on the counterweight.

Abstract: A method for enabling the use of an elevator system by disabled persons includes detecting at least one position change of a user using at least one sensor, said position change being in the form of at least one signal and at least one reference signal. The signal is then compared to the reference signal. At lease one signal status change is generated when at least one predefined comparison result is fulfilled. For the generated signal state change, the elevator system is at least partially brought to an operating mode enabling the use thereof by disabled persons.
Abstract: Methods and systems for displaying search engine results where the file links are displayed with corresponding images of things that fall within a given category are disclosed. Object detection software can be used with a search engine to provide search results to a user that contain specific images found within the result pages (i.e. the pages of the websites returned as the results). For a given class of objects, the user can be presented with images that contain that class of object along with the result hyperlinks, allowing the user to make a more informed choice as to which hyperlink is the most appropriate search result, without being inundated with all of image files present in the result pages.
Abstract: Elevator car position information can be determined based at least in part on readings from a sensor attached to the elevator car. The sensor readings provide movement information for the car. Some elevator installations are also configured with additional sensors for calibrating the sensor attached to the elevator car. The sensors can be used with, for example, an elevator installation that is being modernized.
Abstract: An elevator installation includes at least one elevator cage carrier in a travel space, a first elevator cage arranged at the elevator cage carrier, a second elevator cage arranged at the elevator carrier and at least one adjusting device for adjustment of the first and second elevator cages relative to the elevator cage carrier. The adjusting device includes at least one first rack connected at least indirectly with the first elevator cage, at least one second rack connected at least directly with the second elevator cage and at least one pinion engaged in the first and second racks. The first and second racks are so arranged with respect to the pinion that rotation of the pinion moves the first and second elevator cages in opposite directions.
Abstract: A fire service elevator with an elevator cage includes a cage roof, wherein the elevator cage is at least partly supported and driven by at least one support means. The elevator cage has on the cage roof a region vulnerable to spray water, and this region vulnerable to spray water is covered by an element having a surface structure of such a kind that extinguishing water falling on the element in the event of fire is substantially prevented from spraying in the direction of the at least one support means.
Abstract: A device can actuate and reset a safety gear in an elevator system. The device contains a pressure accumulator, possibly a compression spring, which, in case of need, can move at least two engagement elements of the safety gear essentially synchronously into an engaged position, and a remotely actuatable resetting device, which can retension the pressure accumulator into a ready position.

Abstract: An elevator installation includes an elevator cage carrier with a first elevator cage and a second elevator cage. A hydraulic adjusting element for the first elevator cage is provided, which serves for adjusting the first elevator cage relative to the elevator cage carrier. In addition, a hydraulic adjusting element for the second elevator cage is also provided, which serves for adjusting the second elevator cage relative to the elevator cage carrier. In that case a stroke of the hydraulic adjusting element for the first elevator cage for adjusting the first elevator cage in a first adjustment direction is converted into a stroke of the hydraulic adjusting element for the second elevator cage for adjusting the second elevator cage in an opposite adjustment direction.
