Patent number: 11341254Abstract: Securing data using random bits uses a TRNG disk with a plurality of random bits and a universally unique identifier (UUID). At least one TRNG disk copy is created, which is identical to the TRNG disk. The TRNG disk copy is stored in a separate physical location than the TRNG disk. Source data is received and encrypted with a block of random bits of the TRNG disk to produce encrypted data. The block of random bits of the TRNG disk has a bit offset which is a positional address of the block of random bits within the TRNG disk. The encrypted source data, the UUID, and the bit offset of the TRNG disk are communicated from a first location to at least a second location. The encrypted source data is decrypted at the second location using the UUID, the offset of the TRNG disk, and the TRNG disk copy.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2021Date of Patent: May 24, 2022Assignee: QUANTUM PROPERTIES TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Daniel M. Patent number: 11340979Abstract: Read error mitigation in solid-state memory devices. A solid-state drive (SSD) includes a read error mitigation module that monitors one or more memory regions. In response to detecting uncorrectable read errors, memory regions of the memory device may be identified and preemptively retired. Example approaches include identifying a memory region as being suspect such that upon repeated read failures within the memory region, the memory region is retired. Moreover, memory regions may be compared to peer memory regions to determine when to retire a memory region. The read error mitigation module may trigger a test procedure on a memory region to detect the susceptibility of a memory region to read error failures. By detecting read error failures and retirement of a memory regions, data loss and/or data recovery processes may be limited to improve drive performance and reliability.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2019Date of Patent: May 24, 2022Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Mehmet Emin Aklik, Antoine Khoueir, Darshana H. Patent number: 11341998Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for hardware-based read sample averaging in a data storage device. In one example, a read channel circuit including a buffer memory is configured to receive a read instruction to read a selected sector, obtain detected sample values for the selected sector, and determine whether the read instruction corresponds to a re-read operation for the selected sector based on determining whether there are stored samples for the selected sector already stored to a locked buffer entry of the buffer memory. When there are stored sample values stored to the locked buffer entry, the example read channel circuit determines the re-read operation is occurring, and performs read sample averaging based on the detected sample values and the stored sample values to produce averaged sample values. Other examples and configurations are also described.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2020Date of Patent: May 24, 2022Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Zheng Wu, Marcus Marrow, Jason Bellorado

Patent number: 11339337Abstract: An apparatus and methods to eliminate PFAS from wastewater biosolids through fluidized bed gasification. The gasifier decomposes the PFAS in the biosolids at temperatures of 900-1800° F. Synthesis gas (syngas) exits the gasifier which is coupled to a thermal oxidizer and is combusted at temperatures of 1600-2600° F. This decomposes PFAS in the syngas and creates flue gas. Heat can be recovered from the flue gas by cooling the flue gas to temperatures of 400-1200° F. in a heat exchanger that is coupled with the thermal oxidizer. Cooled flue gas is mixed with hydrated lime, enhancing PFAS decomposition, with the spent lime filtered from the cooled flue gas using a filter system that may incorporate catalyst impregnated filter elements. The apparatus and methods thereby eliminate PFAS from wastewater biosolids and control emissions in the resulting flue gas.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2021Date of Patent: May 24, 2022Assignee: ARIES CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Matthew Newman, Joel Thornton, Brandon Davis, Renus Kelfkens, Ron Hudson, Mark Robertson
