  • Patent number: 6213477
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket for an internal combustion engine is formed of first, second and third metal plates laminated together. sealing devices are attached to the first metal plate, each having a curved portion for defining a cylinder bore, and a flange extending from the curved portion in a direction away from the cylinder bore. The second metal plate situated above the first metal plate has at least one notch between the cylinder bores, and the third metal plate situated above the second metal plate has an engaging portion between the cylinder bores. At least one holding portion is attached to the sealing device. The holding portion is located above the engaging portion to thereby allow the engaging portion to be located in the notch when the gasket is assembled. Thus, the engaging portion between the third holes is retained by the holding portion.

  • Patent number: 6168166
Abstract: A metal gasket for an internal combustion engine is basically formed of a main plate. The main plate includes a first hole for constituting one of bolt holes, a second hole corresponding to a fluid hole and situated adjacent to the first hole, and a full bead having a first half bead and a second half bead situated outside the first half bead. The first half bead completely surrounds only the second hole, and the second half bead surrounds the first and second holes. Thus, a portion away from the first hole is surrounded by the first and second half beads to securely seal around the second hole. Also, the tightening pressure by the bolt can be supported with good balance.

  • Patent number: 5988651
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for a cylinder head gasket or a pipe connecting gasket. The gasket is basically formed of a single metal plate having a base portion extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed, and includes a bead protecting portion extending outwardly from the front surface and a sealing bead adjacent to the bead protecting portion. The bead protecting portion and the sealing bead are formed in the metal plate. The bead protecting portion has no substantial compressibility, but the sealing bead has a compressibility. Thus, when the metal plate is compressed, the bead protecting portion provides a surface pressure without substantial resiliency, and the sealing bead provides a surface pressure with resiliency and is protected from being completely compressed by the bead protecting portion. The gasket can be made thin.

  • Patent number: 5975540
Abstract: A gasket of the invention is formed of a gasket member extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed. The gasket member includes a base metal plate and at least one sealing member disposed on at least one of surfaces of the base metal plate. A sealing section and a pressure affecting portion are formed in the sealing member. The sealing section has a compressibility, while the pressure affecting portion has a height and compressibility less than those of the sealing section. When the gasket is tightened, the sealing section is compressed to securely seal around a hole to be sealed. The pressure affecting portion having less compressibility is formed near bolt holes, so that the gasket can be tightened easily without gradually decreasing its tightening pressure.
