  • Patent number: 5906376
Abstract: A metal gasket for an internal combustion engine is formed of a metal plate, and includes a bead formed on the metal plate. The bead has a hardness at least partly different from that of the metal plate by heating the bead locally and then cooling the same. Accordingly, the surface pressure of the bead when the gasket is tightened can be adjusted as desired.

  • Patent number: 5899462
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket of the invention is formed of first, second and third metal plates. The first metal plate includes a curved portion to define a first hole corresponding to a hole of an engine to be sealed, and a flange extending from the curved portion. The second metal plate is located above a first base portion of the first metal plate, and has a second hole with a diameter greater than a size of the flange. The third metal plate is situated above the second metal plate, and includes an inner portion situated around a third hole under the flange. A stepped portion is formed between the inner portion and a third base portion by bending the third metal plate to have a thickness greater than that of the third metal plate. When the gasket is compressed, the stepped portion is disposed between an outer edge of the flange and an edge of the second hole and provides a surface pressure thereat. The stepped portion securely seals around the hole of the engine outside a main sealing device.

  • Patent number: 5895055
Abstract: A metal gasket used for an internal combustion engine is basically formed of a metal plate. The gasket includes at least two openings with a narrow intermediate area therebetween, edge portions situated around the openings, curved portions extending from the edge portions to define the openings, the curved portions situated adjacent to each other extending in the directions opposite to each other, and flange or turning portions extending from the curved portions and located over the edge portions. A stepped portion is located between the edge portions situated adjacent to each other. Therefore, when the gasket is tightened, the stepped portion is compressed to provide a surface pressure thereat to seal the narrow intermediate area.

  • Patent number: 5895054
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine, especially for an engine with a cylinder liner. The gasket is formed of a first metal plate having a first hole greater than a hole of the engine, an annular ring and a sealing device. The annular ring has an inner size substantially corresponding to the hole of the engine, an outer size substantially corresponding to the first hole, and a thickness greater than that of the first metal plate. The annular ring is situated inside the first hole and attached to the first metal plate. The sealing device provides a surface pressure on the first plate outside the annular ring. Even if there is a gap between the upper end of the cylinder liner and an upper surface of the cylinder block, the annular ring can seal around the hole together with the sealing device.

  • Patent number: 5879012
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine and is basically formed of one metal plate. The plate includes a hole, an elongated or annular recess formed on the metal plate to surround the hole and a bead formed in the elongated recess. The elongated recess extends from an outer surface of the metal plate, and the thickness of the bead is less than the thickness of the metal plate. A top portion of the bead projects outwardly beyond the outer surface of the metal plate. Thus, when the metal plate is tightened, the top portion of the bead is compressed to a level corresponding to the outer surface of the plate to protect the bead. Therefore, creep relaxation of the bead is reduced or prevented.

The first metal plate includes a base portion, a plurality of curved portions extending from the base portion to define first holes, and a plurality of flanges extending from the curved portions to be disposed over the base portion. Each annular plate is situated between each flange and the base portion, and has at least one flat section and at least one partial bead section disposed at an intermediate portion between the first holes. The partial bead does not extend throughout an entire length of the annular plate. Therefore, when the gasket is tightened, the surface pressure at the intermediate portion can be increased to securely seal thereat. In case the rigidity of a cylinder head is not strong, the gasket is especially useful.

  • Patent number: 5853175
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine of the invention is formed of at least one metal plate for constituting the cylinder head gasket. The gasket includes a cooling fluid path formed in the metal plate, which extends laterally for a predetermined distance. The cooling fluid path communicates with a circulation passage in the engine so that a cooling fluid flowing through the circulation passage enters into the cooling fluid path and cools the engine. Accordingly, a high temperature portion of the engine away from the circulation passage of the engine can be cooling efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5725223
Abstract: A manifold gasket of the invention is used for a manifold with at least three manifold holes arranged side by side. The gasket is basically formed of a metal plate for constituting the manifold gasket, which has two outer holes and at least one inner hole situated between the two outer holes. The metal plate includes two outer beads and at least one inner bead. Each outer bead surrounds each outer hole, and the inner bead surrounds the inner hole. Each outer bead forms a surface pressure less than that of the inner bead when the manifold gasket is compressed with a predetermined constant torque. Therefore, the outer bead has compressibility more than that of the inner bead to absorb deformation of the manifold when it is heated. The gasket can securely seal around the manifold holes.
