    Abstract: A process for producing benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, which comprises adding benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid to a solvent comprising, as the main constituent, an organic compound having a boiling point of more than 100.degree. C. and being inert to benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid and benzophenone tetracarboxylic anhydrides, and heating the resulting mixture. This process enables one to produce benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride having a very low moisture absorbency.

    Abstract: A multi-component copolymer rubber consisting essentially of (A) 20 to 69.5% by weight of a cyano-substituted alkyl (meth)acrylate, (B) 30 to 79.5% by weight of an alkyl acrylate, (C) 0.5 to 10% by weight of a crosslinkable monomer and (D) 0 to 10% by weight of other ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with (A), (B) and (C), excels in heat resistance, ozone resistance, sour gasoline resistance and sour gasohol resistance. There properties of said multi-component copolymer rubber can further be improved by incorporating into the copolymer rubber a crosslinking agent, a metal salt, a vinylidene fluoride polymer, a vinyl chloride resin or other multi-component copolymer rubber.

    Abstract: A heat-resistant copolymer obtained by copolymerizing (A) 72-82 parts by weight of .alpha.-methylstyrene and (B) 26-18 parts by weight of acrylonitrile, characterized in that the copolymer contains (a) 0-15% by weight of monomer chain --(A)--(A)--(A)--, (b) 50% by weight or more of monomer chain --(A)--(A)--(B)--, and (c) 50% by weight or less of monomer chain--(B)--(A)--(B)--, the total of (a), (b) and (c) being 100% by weight. This copolymer is excellent in heat stability and moldability when molded at high temperatures, and the blending of this copolymer with other thermoplastic resins gives thermoplastic resins with excellent heat resistance.

    Abstract: A novel raddery organopolysilsesquioxane having lower alkyl groups and alkenyl groups as the side chains and, if necessary, having aryl groups and/or hydrogen atoms bonded as the side chains can be produced by adding water to a solution of a lower-alkyltrihalogenosilane, an alkenyltrihalogenosilane, and, if necessary, an aryltrihalogenosilane and/or a trihalogenosilane in an organic solvent, and heating the resulting mixture. The aforesaid organopolysilsesquioxane can be used for forming a patterned surface-protecting layer or insulating layer for a semiconductor device, in the form of a mixture with a compound which generates crosslinking-reaction-active species upon irradiation with light or an ionizing radiation.

Said ionizing radiation sensitive resist is suitable as a negative type resist.

    Abstract: A branched styrene-butadiene copolymer and a pneumatic tire using the same as a tread base rubber are disclosed. This copolymer is produced by coupling an active styrene-butadiene copolymer anion, which is obtained by polymerizing styrene and butadiene in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of ether or a tertiary amine and an initiator of an organolithium compound, with a tin halide compound. In the copolymer, the ratio of branched copolymer connected with tin-butadienyl bond is at least 20% by weight, and the content of bound styrene is not less than 3% by weight but less than 25% by weight, and the content of vinyl bond in butadiene portion is not less than 30% but less than 50%.

    Abstract: A process for purifying a rubbery polymer by removing a catalyst residue from a rubbery polymer containing the catalyst residue obtained by polymerizing in slurry ethylene and an .alpha.-olefin or ethylene, an .alpha.-olefin and a non-conjugated diene in a poor solvent with a catalyst consisting of an organoaluminum compound and a transition metal compound, characterized in that the removal of the catalyst residue is conducted by water extraction consisting of(1) adding a good solvent and a surface active agent to the polymer slurry in the first step, and(2) adding water to the slurry obtained in above (1) in second step.This process enables the catalyst residue to be removed from EPDM in a very high efficiency.
