    Abstract: A hydrogenated copolymer rubber which is a hydrogenation product of a random copolymer rubber consisting of:(A) 30-70 mole % of a unit derived from at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of alkyl acrylates and alkoxy-substituted alkyl acrylates,(B) 20-70 mole % of a unit derived from at least one conjugated diene, and(C) 0-10 mole % of a unit derived from at least one other ethylenically unsaturated compound copolymerizable with the components (A) and (B) [(A)+(B)+(C)=100 mole %] wherein at least 90% of the double bonds of the conjugated diene unit is hydrogenated; a crosslinkable rubber composition comprising said hydrogenated copolymer rubber and a crosslinking agent; and a thermoplastic polymer comprising said hydrogenated copolymer rubber and a thermoplastic resin. These rubbers and compositions are superior in low-temperature resistance, heat resistance, ozone resistance, mechanical strengths, compression set, impact resilience and oil resistance.

    Abstract: A process for producing a modified conjugated diene polymer which comprises the steps of (I) polymerizing a conjugated diene in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) a lanthanum series rare earth element compound, (b) an organoaluminum compound represented by the general formula, AlR.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 (wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 which may be same or different, are hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbon groups of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 is said hydrocarbon group) and, if necessary, at least one member selected from the group consisting of (c) a Lewis acid and/or (d) a Lewis base, and then (II) modifying the resulting reactive polymer with a modifying compound of the general formula, R.sup.4.sub.n MX.sub.4-n (wherein R.sup.4 is an alkyl group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms or an aryl group, M is a tin atom, X is a halogen atom, and n is an integer of 1 to 3).

    Abstract: A process for producing cis-4,5-dihydro-4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid which comprises producing cis-4,5-dihydro-4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid and/or a salt thereof from phthalic acid and/or a salt thereof using a microorganism whose activity to decompose cis-4,5-dihydro-4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid and/or a salt thereof has disappeared or diminished, acidifying the product system unless it is acidic, and then extracting therefrom cis-4,5-dihydro-4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid with such an organic solvent that it is miscible with water in any proportion and the mixture of the organic solvent with water can be separated into two layers upon adding a salt thereto, in the presence of a salt, or with an alcohol having 4 carbon atoms. The process enables one to produce cis-4,5-dihydro-4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid from phthalic acid and/or its salt in a high yield.

    Abstract: A process for producing a laminated product of a polyvinylidene fluoride layer and a rubber-like polymer layer is disclosed. In the process, an adhesive containing (a) a rubber-like polymer, (b) an oxide or hydroxide of a metal belonging to Groups II to IV of the Periodic Table, and (c) an organic solvent is applied to the surface of the polyvinylidene fluoride layer, the rubber-like polymer layer, or the both, and the layers are pressed together under heating at a temperature not higher than the melting point of the polyvinylidene fluoride. The laminated product is suitable for applications requiring high performance, e.g. as lining materials for chemical storage tanks, tanks on tank trucks, various types of hoses such as fuel hoses, various types of diaphragms and packing.

The rubber composition is excellent in roll processing properties, mechanical strength, heat resistance, and low-temperature property and is suitable as oil seal and rubber hose.

The copolymer is soluble in aqueous alkali solutions, excels in processability and photosetting property, and has excellent rubber elasticity and transparency even after photosetting.

    Abstract: An aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive consisting essentially of (1) 100 parts by weight (in terms of solids content) of an aqueous copolymer emulsion obtained by emulsion-polymerizing a monomer mixture consisting of 70-99.9% by weight of at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate in which the alkyl group has 4-12 carbon atoms, 0.1-10% by weight of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid and 0-29.9% by weight of a monomer copolymerizable therewith, (2) 0.1-10 parts by weight of a phosphoric acid ester compound, and (3) a polyglycidyl compound in such an amount that the proportion of the epoxy group in the polyglycidly compound is 0.1-3 equivalents per equivalent of the carboxyl group in the aqueous copolymer. This aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive has excellent balance in adhesion to adherend, peelability from adherend and anchoring to substrate; and the peelability from adherend is not varied depending upon the type of adherend and does not change with time or by heating.

    Abstract: Hollow polymer particles having at least two polymer layers, wherein (1) the particles have an average particle diameter in the range of 0.15 to 20 micrometers, (2) each of the particles has an average equivalent hollow diameter/equivalent particle diameter in the range of 0.2 to 0.8, (3) the proportion of a toluene-insoluble portion of the particles is 20 to 90% by weight, (4) the polymer particles have a melt flow rate at 180.degree. C. under 10 kgf/cm.sup.2 of 0.1 to 1 g/10 min., (5) the inside layer of the two polymer layers is composed of a crosslinked polymer and (6) the outside layer of the two polymer layers is composd of a non-crosslinked polymer. This invention also provides hollow crosslinked polymer particles wherein the proportion of a toluene-insoluble portion of the particles exceeds 85% by weight, the melt flow rate of the polymer particles at 180.degree. C. under 10 kgf/cm.sup.2 is less than 0.2 g/10 min., and the outside layer is composed of a crosslinked polymer.
