  • Patent number: 4625820
Abstract: Interfitting connector plates on the base and crawler track frames of a crane or other heavy equipment are notched and apertured near their tops and bottoms to receive at least at one of these locations tapering wedge pins having multiple flat faces to engage complementary faces of the notches and apertures of the interfitting connector plates. The notches and apertures at the second location may receive straight pins or tapering wedge pins to complete the connection. The connection is very secure and tight as well as resistant to wear under the heavy pounding to which it is subjected. Easy and rapid assembly without special tools is enabled.

  • Patent number: 4616928
Abstract: A photoelectric smoke detector including a housing defining a test zone and an opening for admitting smoke thereinto, a light source arranged to direct light to the zone and a light responsive element arranged to receive light scattered by smoke particles in the zone. An optical barrier prevents the direct transmission of light through the zone and between the light source and light responsive element, the barrier defining a light passage for transmitting light directly therebetween. Projecting into the light passage is a mechanical gate that can be adjusted to alter the size of the light passage and thereby vary the level of light transmitted directly therethrough between the light source and the light responsive element. In response to selective adjustment of the mechanical gate, the light responsive element can provide a background signal that obviates normal electronic noise.

  • Patent number: 4578548
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a switching device for a coin controlled machine in which the device is actuated in response to completion of a predetermined number of cycle of an operator member. The device includes a shaft disposed for rotating a predetermined angular increment each time the operator member cycles. The device includes a first cam and a second cam adjustably positioned on the shaft relative to each other to permit selecting a predetermined distance along the camming surface of the first cam between the initial inoperative position of said first cam and its actuation position. The angle subtended by the selected predetermined distance along the camming surface of the first cam is a multiple of the predetermined increment that the shaft rotates each time the operator member cycles.

  • Patent number: 4521180
Abstract: A laboratory gas burner and control apparatus including a burner assembly made from electrically conductive material and adapted for positioning on a counter. Defined by the burner is an inlet for connection to a gas source and an outlet for feeding gas to a flame. An electrically operated valve controls the flow of gas to the burner outlet and an igniter is energizable by a power supply to ignite gas emanating from the burner outlet. Associated with the igniter is an activation circuit that produces either ignition periods during which the igniter is energized by the supply or non-ignition periods during which the igniter is deenergized. Initiation of each ignition period requires manipulation of a manual activation mechanism. Once ignited, the presence of flame at the burner outlet is detected by a flame sensing mechanism. A valve control circuit maintains the supply valve open only during either ignition periods or periods during which flame is detected by the sensing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4520348
Abstract: An electrical protection system including a plurality of suppressor units each activatable by either a first or a second electrical current responsive activator to suppress abnormal condition. The system further includes a supervisory electrical current source, an activation electrical current source, a first connector circuit connecting all of the first activators in series and a second connector circuit connecting all of the second activators in series. A control circuit connects the supervisory source in parallel with the first and second connector circuits so as to provide in each a predetermined supervisory current that is insufficient to energize the activators.

  • Patent number: 4512482
Abstract: A crane boom extension or jib is held on the nose of the boom by a single fixed length self-adjusting cable loop which extends around an arcuate guide attachable at several different locations to an inclined plane mounting bracket on the jib near its outer end. The mere repositioning of the guide on the inclined plane mounting bracket allows the jib to assume several different angularly offset positions relative to the axis of the boom without other adjustments. The inclined plane mounting bracket establishes the plane in which the cable loop lies in all adjusted positions of the jib. The arrangement is convenient, safe and simplified.

  • Patent number: 4502584
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a coin slide assembly having a coin slide disposed for accommodating up to eight coins in a vertical position. The assembly further includes sets of inter-engaging channels and post on the assembly housing and on the coin slide, respectively, to restrict access to the internal blocking dog components of the assembly by persons intent on damaging or interferring with the normal operation of the dogs. A gate is provided through which the coins pass upon inserted movement of the coin slide. The assembly further includes a coin sizing block having inverted V-shaped notches which cooperate with the blocking dogs to render the coin slide operative only when properly sized coins are carried by the slide. A protective bar restricts the movement of the blocking dogs beyond their non-blocking position to prevent distortion of the spring which biases the dogs to their normal blocking position.

  • Patent number: 4490951
Abstract: A multi-section hydraulically operated telescoping crane boom includes a manual fly section (23) which may be safely extended and retracted, securely latched in the extended position and pin locked by remote operation of a biased hydraulically powered latching plunger (33) and a biased cooperative hydraulically powered locking pin (52) both embodied in a static hydraulic circuit which includes in one form a pressure fluid circuit safety interlock portion (FIG. 4) with a pressure-responsive indicator (123) to indicate when the latching plunger (33) is engaged (48), and in another form an electrical switch circuit safety interlock portion (FIG. 7) controlling the hydraulic circuit, with an electric switch (131) operated indicator (159) to indicate when the latching plunger (33) is engaged (48). The safety interlock portions of both circuits for the cooperative latching plunger (33) and locking pin (52) prevent their operation in improper sequence so one is engaged at all times before the other is disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4484686
Abstract: A side stowable swing-around boom extension is pinned on the nose of a telescoping crane boom in a first use position nearly coaxial with the center line of the boom but tilted or offset therefrom at a small angle. Two larger angularly offset use positions of the boom extension are obtained with convenience and with complete safety while the crane boom and boom extension are at a near ground level position. Two slotted tension links are connected between the upper side of the boom extension and the boom nose and are allowed to support the boom extension in either of two major offset use positions automatically as the crane boom is elevated from the near ground level position. In such operation, the boom extension is allowed to rotate around the axis of its lower side pivotal connection with the boom nose while its upper side connection with the nose is released. The lower side connection is biased toward a position corresponding to the nearly coaxial use position of the boom extension.

  • Patent number: 4483447
Abstract: A swing-around side stowable jib for crane booms is safely supported at all times during movement from its use position to its stowed position, and vice versa. In the short transitional movement of the jib following its release from its nose assembly pivot and immediately prior to re-engaging this pivot, the jib is always securely held by a strongly biased safety latch in supportive engagement with a side mounting assembly located between the nose assembly pivot and a second mounting assembly on the boom rearwardly of the first mounting assembly. The safety latch at proper times is easily released by operation of a hand lever near ground level. Locks for the safety latch and its release lever are also provided. The safety latch is swiveled and biased to meet the swing-around jib squarely as it approaches the stowed position.
