  • Patent number: 4363412
Abstract: An extremely massive mobile crain counterweight requiring demounting from the crane rotary superstructure for separate transport or storage has self-contained raising and lowering mechanism which may be powered from the crane carrier and which forms a part of the counterweight mass. The internal counterweight mechanism is shielded from ballast, such as shot, which fills the interior of the counterweight. A foot plate forming a part of the raising and lowering mechanism of the counterweight is lockable in extended and retracted positions and is constructed for interlocking engagement with a locator structure on the crane carrier. An efficient and simplified sequence of counterweight manipulating steps is enabled.

  • Patent number: 4355524
Abstract: A dial and sleeve type combination lock is provided with a shift member to move the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the dials for changing the combination of the lock. The shift member includes a manual actuator extending through an opening in the face plate of the lock which opening extends transversely to the axis of the sleeves and movement of the actuator in the opening in the transverse direction effects axial movement of the sleeves by means of an oblique camming surface on the shift member.

  • Patent number: 4354366
Abstract: A dial and sleeve type combination lock is provided with a shift mechanism for moving the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the dials for changing the combination of the lock. The shift mechanism includes a rotary actuator mounted coaxially with the sleeves and having a portion of its periphery extending through an opening in the face plate of the lock. When the lock is on combination, the actuator can be rotated to move the sleeves out of coupling engagement with the respective dials by a camming action.

  • Patent number: 4337867
Abstract: The pivot shaft for the boom of a large mobile construction crane is located near the upper side of the boom base section and its opposite ends are journaled in heavy bearings mounted on vertical side supports rising from a boom turntable. To lock the boom to the boom pivot shaft for unison rotation in the pivot shaft bearings, a single locking pin is received through registering openings in the pivot shaft and a surrounding hub or pillow block fixed to the boom structure within the confines of an internal box support. A screw-threaded extension on the locking pin engages a nut on the exterior of the boom base section, the nut being floatingly constrained by fixed guide tracks which prevent nut rotation with the threaded locking pin while allowing limited lateral and angular adjustment of the locking pin.

  • Patent number: 4327533
Abstract: To reduce the weight and increase the lifting capacity of a multi-section telescopic crane boom, a single hydraulic cylinder for the full extension and retraction of individual boom sections is anchored in the relatively stationary boom base section. A sled structure surrounding the single cylinder and moving therewith has guided engagement through plates fixed to the movable boom sections at or near their rear ends. Driving finger mechanisms on opposite sides of the sled are biased toward driving engagement with the plates of the movable boom sections and are retractable into chambers of the sled. A cooperative locking pin operating assembly for the movable boom sections is fixed on the forward end of the boom base section and includes power retracting devices which operate mating retracting cranks and locking pin sets individual to the movable boom sections when the retracting cranks are aligned beneath the power retracting devices.

  • Patent number: 4318287
Abstract: A combination lock having a latch mechanism capable of being closed even when the lock is off combination employs an axially movable shaft rotatably supporting combination dials and having a latch element for engaging a cooperable hasp, the latch element being spring biased to a latched position. A slide member, the movement of which is blocked when any dial is off combination, is coupled to the latch element and the shaft and connected to a manual actuator for moving the latch element to an unlatched position. The coupling permits the latch element to move to its unlatched position independently of the slide member so that the hasp may enter the lock and be engaged by the latch element when movement of the slide member is blocked. The operating mechanism of the lock is supported on a frame by a support member connected to one end of the shaft and by a shift lever slidably related to the shaft at its opposite end.

  • Patent number: 4254545
Abstract: A manufacture of uniformly sized doors for the compartments of safe deposit box nests comprises punching the lock nose holes in uniformly oversized door blanks and then using those holes as the reference from which the various operations on the edges and rear faces of the blanks are performed. For the latter purposes the blanks are supported in a vertical position upon special moving workholders which engage and position the blanks by means of reciprocating draw bars which extend through the nose holes. In cooperation with other apparatus, the draw bars releasably clamp the blanks in position while various machine operations are serially performed on the blanks as the workholders pause at successive tool stations.

  • Patent number: RE31085
Abstract: A coin chute adapted to receive interchangeable coin slides. One type of slide may have one or more coin sockets fitted with one or more knock-out plugs to accommodate differently sized coins in each of the sockets. Another type of slide has either one, two, three or four open coin sockets of different sizes. The chute carries a blocking device with a plurality of sizing dogs biased against the coin slide. The sizing dogs are adapted to engage with the coin receiving sockets of the slide to jam continued projected movement of the slide in the absence of predetermined size coins therein. The position of the dogs relative to the sockets of the slide and the spacing between the dogs is pre-set to similarly engage with differently sized socket openings of replacement slides without further adjustment of the sizing dogs to permit interchangeable use of coin slides whereby the coin chute is operable to accept a variety of differently sized coins and coin combinations by changing slides.
