  • Patent number: 4473214
Abstract: A massive crane luffing jib is held and loaded under compression atop the main crane boom such as a hydraulically extensible and retractable telescopic boom whose sections may be locked for safety. The luffing jib is pivoted to an adapter atop the boom to enable swinging the jib to a stowed position close to and along the front side of the boom. First, second and third masts are pivotally attached to the jib base section. The second and third masts are connected by foldable tension links. An upper foldable ladder in the pendant line between the point of the jib and bridle assembly forms a hard connection between the first and second masts. A lower foldable ladder including a gooseneck forms a hard connection between the second and third masts following automatic coupling of the gooseneck with the third mast after the tension link becomes fully extended.

  • Patent number: 4469153
Abstract: Disclosed is a mixing and dispensing system including a tubular housing with an inlet opening for receiving a first liquid ingredient and a tubular casing for retaining a second liquid ingredient to be combined therewith. A piston is longitudinally movable in the tubular casing to force the second liquid through an outlet opening that liquid tightly engages the inlet opening of the tubular housing. Extending through an end of the tubular housing opposite to the inlet opening is a rod having an inner end secured to a seal mechanism for contacting the inlet to liquid tightly seal the inlet opening. The rod also extends through and is longitudinally movable within a passage in a plunger having an outer periphery conforming to the inner walls of the tubular housing. A coupling mechanism is operable to selectively secure the plunger to the rod so as to provide common longitudinal movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 4469186
Abstract: The base frame of a crawler truck for cranes or similar heavy equipment is provided on at least two opposite sides with projecting heavy attachment plates which coact with support structures projecting in an opposite direction from the side frames of self-contained crawler assemblies requiring attachment to the truck base frame. The side projecting structures of the crawler frames include permanent upper mounting pins and lower mounting openings. The upper pins rest within seating notches formed in the heavy attachment plates of the truck base frame and the lower mounting openings receive reciprocatory lower mounting and locking pins of the crawler assemblies, which pins are connected with power-actuators on the crawler assemblies. Safety latches prevent premature withdrawal of the lower pins from their mounting and locking positions. Awkward and tedious alignment problems are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4459097
Abstract: A fuel burner control system including a valve for controlling the flow of fuel to a burner, a resistive heater element for igniting fuel, a power supply for supplying current to the heater element, a flame sensing circuit comprising an ac source for supplying ac voltage to the heater element, and a detector for producing an output signal only in response to the flow through the heating element of current rectified by the flame, a valve control circuit for maintaining the valve open in response to the output signal, and a coupling circuit interconnecting the heating element with both the power supply and the sensing circuit and adapted to prevent the flow of current therebetween. By utilizing a coupling circuit that prevents the flow of current between the power supply and the flame sensing circuit, the resistive heater element can be efficiently and alternately used both as a fuel igniting mechanism and as an electrode for deriving current rectified by flame at the burner.

  • Patent number: 4457633
Abstract: A thermometer for temperature measurement of a body is provided wherein a temperature probe electrically connects to a temperature read-out means and a probe cover or sheath fits over such probe. The sheath has a temperature sensor e.g. a thermistor mounted thereon, which sensor is electrically connected to the probe when such probe is inserted into such sheath to provide a rapid measurement and read-out of the temperature of a body. The sheath with temperature sensor is disposable and readily replaced for the next use of the electric thermometer of the invention. Alternatively, the sheath can be sterilized for reuse.

  • Patent number: 4455589
Abstract: An electrical control system including a source of electrical power and an electrical load coupled together by a power switch having alternate circuit open and circuit closed conditions. A closure means activates the power switch to a circuit closed condition to produce power transmission between the source and the load in response to a closure signal produced by a condition responsive control circuit. Connected in series with the power switch is a protective switch also activated from a circuit open to a circuit closed condition in response to the closure signal. A sensing circuit produces a fault signal in response to a closed condition of the power switch and a simultaneous circuit open condition of the protective switch.

  • Patent number: 4436456
Abstract: A pneumatic system for banking consists of a pair of upright customer and teller terminals joined at right angles at their lower ends by a carrier transit tube. Each terminal includes a carrier elevator, a blower and a special ducting such that while only one blower propels the carrier from the sending to the receiving terminal both blowers are used to raise the elevator and carrier at the receiving terminal. Air valves at each terminal influence the movement of the carrier, and various controls initiate the sequence of operations by which the carrier is transferred between the terminals.

  • Patent number: 4433218
Abstract: An electrical instrument including a housing with a faceplate, a component for providing a variable electrical characteristic and a control shaft having one end coupled to the component and rotatable to vary the electrical characteristics thereof and an opposite end extending through the faceplate. Attached to the opposite end of the shaft is a coupling that is shaped and arranged so as to prevent relative rotational movement therebetween while allowing relative axial movement therebetween during removal of the coupling from the shaft. A control knob is attached to the coupling in a manner that allows both relative axial and rotational movement therebetween which movement can be restrained by activation of a locking means. An indication of the relative angular position of the knob is provided by a scale located adjacent thereto on the faceplate.

  • Patent number: 4397165
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved locking mechanism for a money box assembly. The mechanism includes a fusible plastic cam which acts as a transmission member operatively connecting the lock to locking bolts. The bolts engage with the wall of a housing to which the money box assembly is mounted. The cam is formed of a material having a melting temperature substantially lower than the melting temperature of the material forming the lock. Any attempt to gain access to the money box by melting the lock and then operating the cam by a screwdriver or other tool will be frustrated since the drive cam linkage will have been destroyed or rendered inoperative by the heat thereby breaking the link between the lock and the locking bolts so that the money box assembly remains locked in place.
