  • Publication number: 20150377845
Abstract: A fully automated flow assisted-solid-phase microextraction (FA-SPME) is developed for the determination of chloroethers in aqueous samples. A CTC CombiPAL autosampler coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is used to automate the extraction process. In this method, the SPME fiber is exposed to a sample in direct immersion. After exposure, the fiber is desorbed at the injection port of GC-MS.

  • Publication number: 20150374695
Abstract: A series of new 6-piperazinyl-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-ones have been synthesized. The compounds are structurally related to adoprazine, a potential atypical antipsychotics bearing potent D2 receptor antagonist and 5-HT1A receptor agonist properties. Buchwald-Hartwig coupling of suitably modified aryl bromides with tert-butyl piperazine-1-carboxylate afforded the advanced intermediate piperazinyl-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-one. The reductive amination of the latter with appropriately designed biarylaldehydes accomplished the synthesis of these compounds.

  • Patent number: 9226252
Abstract: The recursive time synchronization protocol method for wireless sensor networks provides a modified and extended RTSP method to make it work with clustered networks. In case of non-clustered or flat network, each node is assumed to be a clusterhead in order to run the RTSP method correctly. The RTSP method involves the election of a reference node, and compensation for offset and drift. Simulation results show that the extended RTSP method further improves the accuracy and energy consumption, i.e., it can provide an average accuracy of 0.23 ?s in a large multi-hop clustered network while using only 1/7th of the energy consumed by FTSP in the long run.

  • Publication number: 20150345222
Abstract: A directional drilling system consisting of a four-motor drilling head for better steering in directional drilling and vertical/horizontal drilling is developed. The rotational speed of each motor is independently controlled. The use of four motors in coordination with other traditional drilling variables allow precise control of the drilling direction and optimization of the rate of penetration (ROP). The top and right motors rotate in opposite directions to the bottom and left rotors to stabilize the roll rotation of the drilling head. Inclination (pitch) movement is obtained by increasing/decreasing the speed of the top motor while decreasing/increasing the speed of the lower motor. The Azimuth (yaw) movement is obtained similarly using the right and left motors. The drilling power is derived from down hole motors. A drill string transmits the drilling fluid and force on bit.

  • Patent number: 9193608
Abstract: The removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions using metal-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles is a method that comprises contacting the aqueous solution with metal-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles. The three transition metals tungsten, vanadium and iron were selected for doping of titanium dioxide. Removal of the toxic heavy metals Pb(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) was studied intensively by using metal-doped titanium dioxide to measure the isotherms and kinetics. The isotherms studies showed that the highest removal percentage of Pb(II) was achieved by W-doped titanium dioxide, while Fe-doped titanium dioxide and V-doped titanium dioxide performed better for removal of Zn(II) and Cd(II), respectively.

  • Patent number: 9188471
Abstract: A sensor system detects the occurrence of two-phase flow by comparing records of fluidelastic force coefficients, which are characteristically different for single-phase and two-phase flows. A baseline of measurements is obtained for a single phase flow, and a baseline of measurements is obtained for a two-phase flow. Measurements of the amplitude and phase of the fluidelastic forces are recorded, and the corresponding fluidelastic force coefficients computed. The fluidelastic force coefficients can be determined for any flow, and compared to the baselines to determine whether the flow is a single-phase or two-phase flow.
