Abstract: A system for controlling smartphones of drivers of moving automobiles including a plurality of smartphones, each smartphone including a GPS unit to record speed and location of smartphone, a driver control application to control access to phone services and social media applications, a low frequency receiver to receive low frequency radio frequency identification, an LF RFID, signal from key fob located within moving automobile, and a computing unit to measure a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of LF RFID signal, a transmitter to transmit the speed, location, LF RFID signal, and RSSI to a centralized monitor. The centralized monitor includes a computing circuitry to receive the speed, location, LF RFID signal, and RSSI of each smartphone, generate clusters of speeds and locations of smartphones, analyze clusters to determine smartphones located within a particular moving automobile, determine smartphone of driver, and transmit a control signal to the smartphone of the driver.
Abstract: The invention is directed to a culture medium for Haematococcus that contains combustion gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen or sulfur and which fixes the carbon, nitrogen or sulfur in these combustion gases into biomass and to methods providing superior biomass yields using this culture medium to culture select species of Haematococcus such as Haematococcus sp. KAU-01.

Abstract: A method is provided of optimizing multi-cell association for a downlink multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system that includes a plurality of base stations corresponding to C number of cells which serve K user terminals. Each user terminal connects with at least two cells. The method includes determining which cells for each user to connect with based on minimizing an objective function that is dependent on at least weight parameters for each kth user connected to each cth cell. Based on the determination, the user terminals are connected to their respective cells and the weight parameters are applied toward a beamforming configuration for the plurality of base stations. A device is also provided having processing circuitry configured to perform the method.

Abstract: A LoRa device for communicating sensor signals in a low power wide area network (LPWAN) includes a physical layer using Hamming encoding and Gray indexing with chirp spread signal (CSS) modulation to encode and modulate the sensor signals and a medium access layer (MAC) including a compressive sensing sub-layer which reduces encoded, modulated signals to sparse vectors. A transmission packet is formed by combining the sparse vectors with a selected set of sparse vectors representing past measurements and the incoming velocity of the sensor signals. A receiver decompresses the transmission packet by reconstructing, at a sparse recovery sub-layer of a receiver MAC layer, the encoded, modulated sensor signals. A decoder path removes the CSS modulation and Gray indexing, and Hamming decodes the sensors signals.
Abstract: A 15-level multilevel inverter circuit includes an outer circuit, an inner circuit, a polarity changing circuit and a computing device. The outer circuit and the inner circuit include a plurality of DC voltage supplies. Each DC voltage supply has a positive and a negative terminal. The outer circuit, the inner circuit and the polarity changing circuit include a plurality of unidirectional power switches. Each unidirectional power switch is a transistor with a diode connected in parallel to the transistor. The computing device is configured to provide control signals to the gates of the plurality of the unidirectional power switches of the outer circuit and the inner circuit to add or subtract the voltage of each of inner DC voltage supplies to form square waveforms approximating sinusoidal waveforms, and to the gates of the plurality of the unidirectional power switches of the polarity changing circuit to switch the polarity of the voltage.
Abstract: A speaker identification system and method to identify a speaker based on the speaker's voice is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the speaker identification system comprises a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) for speaker accent and dialect identification for a given speech signal input by the speaker and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to identify the speaker based on the identified dialect, in which the output of the GMM is input to the ANN.

Abstract: A bioactive borate glass adhesive system is described for its composition and use in adhering a plurality of dental restorative components onto a tooth surface. The adhesive system comprises silanated borate bioactive glass particles and a biocompatible resin blend. The bioactive adhesive system functions as a non-degradable, permanent adhesive in tooth restoration in the presence of saliva. In addition, the bioactive borate adhesive system may be used for re-mineralization, de-sensitization and self-healing of dentin and enamel by releasing and depositing calcium and phosphate ions onto the exposed and damaged tooth surface.

Abstract: A sensor detects tilt and/or accelerations simultaneously and in a plurality of directions. The exemplary sensor comprises a magnet which is allowed to move in multiple directions within a space about which a plurality of Hall-effect sensors are arrayed. The magnet is mounted by a plurality of springs which limit the displacement of the magnet to the space within the circle of sensors. Continuous signals from the sensors change in response to a changing position of the magnet. These signals are evaluated by an artificial neural network (ANN) taught using validated tilt sensors. Angle and acceleration values are cleaned from vibration values using a Kalman filter.

Abstract: Methods and systems for random-access channel in 5G networks is described. In one aspect, a method for a contention based-random access (CB-RA) through a random access channel (RACH) is disclosed. A base station may configure a set of RA preambles for CB-RA in a configuration information. The base station may distribute the set of RA preambles between a defined first boundary and a second boundary using a continuous exponential distribution (ED) in the configuration information. The base station distributes the RA preambles to occur continuously and independently with a constant parametric rate between the first boundary and the second boundary. The at least one User Equipment (UE) receives the configuration information. The at least one UE selects and communicates at least one RA preamble from the set of RA preambles. The base station may receive the selected at least one RA preamble from the at least one UE.
Abstract: A smart parking lot system for charging electric vehicles (EVs) includes a charger unit, a switching unit, an interface unit, and a control unit. The charger unit includes m chargers, the switching unit includes matrix switch elements S(i,j) configured to switch a connection between an i-th input port and a j-th output port according to a control signal specifying an address (i,j) and a switching state. An interface unit includes n interface ports to be connected with EVs parked for charging. Each of the m chargers is connected with one of m input ports of the matrix switch, respectively. Each of the n interface ports is connected with one of n output ports of the matrix switch, respectively. The control unit is configured to provide for the EV connected with an interface port, accessibilities to at least two chargers with different output power levels, when available.
Abstract: A composite for adsorption of metal ions including silica microparticles, graphene oxide sheets, and polyaniline is provided.
