Patent number: 5048644Abstract: The invention concerns a method and apparatus for improving the performance of a motor-controlled hydraulic elevator, in which oil is pumped using an hydraulic pump controlled by an electric motor from a container via a main supply duct into a lifting cylinder to move the elevator upwards, and returned in a controlled manner through the pump into the container to move the elevator downwards. In order to improve the loading conditions of the motor during down-travel, the oil pressure in the main duct is reduced to a substantially predetermined constant level by means of a check valve or lowering valve which, to provide compensation for the pressure in the pump, has a feedback connection to the main duct via a pressure compensation valve which controls the volume of flow through the check valve or lowering valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1988Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Kone OyInventor: Raimo Pelto-Huikko

Patent number: 5047773Abstract: In a method for the generation of control signals in a push button box and transmission of the signals for the control of a machine, signals representing the position of a push button element are transferred by a non-contacting mode from the push button element to a signal generating unit, which is adapted to produce control signals proportional to the position of the push button element. A push button box for carrying out the method comprises at least one push button element, a signal generating unit adapted to receive the signals representing the position of the push button element by non-contacting mode, and further adapted to generate control signals proportional to the position of each of the push button elements, and a partition between each push button element and the signal generating unit.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1989Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Assignee: Kone OyInventors: Juha Seitsonen, Olavi Jussila

Patent number: 5001070Abstract: An electrochemical method for determining the total carbonate content of fluids, especially biological fluids. According to the invention, using an ion-selective electrode, the concentration of certain ions dissociable from carbon acid or affecting the dissociation balance is first measured for the fluid. The fluid is then mixed with another fluid containing a reactive component that changes the ionic concentration just measured, whereupon the concentration is again measured by means of an ion-selective electrode, thus producing two different measurement results, from which the total carbonate content can be determined. The measurement preferably relates to the pH of the fluid, while metallic ions such as Cu.sup.2+, forming a complex with hydrocarbonate ions, are used as the component to be added to alter the pH.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1990Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Assignee: Kone OyInventors: Ari Ivaska, Andrzej Lewenstam, Erkki Wanninen

Patent number: 4955484Abstract: A device is disclosed for separating hard objects, such as stones, from a stream of wood in an apparatus for conveying or manipulating logs or blocks of wood including a conveyor section. The device includes a transducer disposed in a location suited for the detection of vibration. The transducer registers acoustic vibrations and is connected to a control unit by means of which hard objects conveyed along with the wood stream can be detected on the basis of the vibration signals they generate. The control unit is also used to control an exit gear incorporated in the conveyor section, so that hard objects which are detected will fall down from the stream of wood passing through the apparatus. The invention eliminates the need to build water-operated stone catchers as conventionally used for the removal of stones.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Kone OyInventors: Kari Rintala, Jyrki Paarma, Mikko Sissala

Patent number: 4946024Abstract: A procedure and apparatus for separating batches of logs from a continuous stream of logs on a belt, chain or other type of conveyor consists, according to the present invention, of two or more conveyor units with the batching operation taking place in gaps between the conveyor units. Current methods and devices require supervision and an operator to control the operation, e.g. via push buttons. The procedure and apparatus of the invention solves that problem in that the gaps are bridged, a batch of logs is entrapped between conveyor units and then the batch of entrapped logs may be lifted clear of the stream for further processing.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1988Date of Patent: August 7, 1990Assignee: Kone OyInventor: Matti Forsberg

Patent number: 4902626Abstract: A procedure for assuring the identification of samples when transferring such samples into a sample register for the measuring process by an apparatus performing analysis of the samples. The apparatus consists of a sample register, through apertures in its cover a sample container is insertable into the sample register at one desired location only. The computer of the apparatus performing the analysis finds the address of a given sample in its memory and moves the sample register relative to the cover so as to make the respective location in the register accessible through the aperture. When this takes place in the order in which the samples were presented, all confusion of samples will be avoided because the computer retains the address of each patient sample in its memory throughout the analysis procedure.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1987Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Kone OyInventors: Kimmo J. Patent number: 4895241Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for the distribution of logs into the supply shafts of a plurality of successive grinders from a conveyor line consisting of several belt, chain or other conveyors placed in succession and carrying the logs transversely thereon. The logs are passed from one conveyor to the next and distributed into supply shafts through gaps between the conveyors, which are automatically started for moving the logs on the conveyor line so as to fill the supply shafts. The equipment previously known and used for this purpose has several disadvantages, e.g. the need for sorting of the logs, unnecessary operation of the conveyors, overfilling of the line, etc.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1988Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Assignee: Kone OYInventor: Seppo Silenius

Patent number: 4774987Abstract: An apparatus for feeding roundwood into a rotating debarking drum through the inlet end of the barking drum utilizing a conveyor. The prior method presents the drawback that it is not possible, with a single feed device, to feed into the barking drum roundwood of different lengths but only either long, intermediate-sized or short logs. With the present invention, this problem has been solved in that the logs are positively fed by the conveyor, at low speed, into the lower part of the barking drum, through a feed cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1987Date of Patent: October 4, 1988Assignee: Kone OyInventor: Matti Sepling

Patent number: 4690900Abstract: A procedure for photometric measurement of liquids in a reaction vessel in an automatic analyser, with a radiation flow having its course perpendicular to a row of the reaction vessel, so as to provide a reliable and positively operating measuring method for the photometric measurement of the liquids. The procedure is characterized in that the radiation flow and the reaction vessel are in movement relative to each other during the measurement. The invention affords the advantage of improved accuracy of measurement and improved reliability since it becomes possible, by measuring a moving object and at the same time calculating the mean of the radiant flux over accepted portions of the signal, to eliminate the error of measurement introduced by a dirt particle or by a scratch. The invention also concerns a row of reaction vessels employed in the procedure, wherein each reaction vessel is contiguous to the next and separated by a wall.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1983Date of Patent: September 1, 1987Assignee: Kone OyInventors: Kayhko Kimmo, Kari H.
