    Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition is prepared by blending 50-95 wt. % of a copolymer (A) of 10-75 wt. % of .alpha.-methyl styrene, 10-60 wt. % of methyl methacrylate, 5-35 wt. % of acrylonitrile and 0-20 wt. % of a monomer copolymerizable therewith; and 5-50 wt. % of a graft copolymer (B) comprising 50-85 wt. parts of a butadiene-based rubber polymer and 15-50 wt. parts of a vinyl monomer graft-polymerized onto the rubber polymer. The butadiene-based rubber polymer includes 50-98 wt. % of butadiene, 2-50 wt. % of an aromatic polycyclic vinyl monomer represented by a formula (I) below and 0-20 wt. % of a monomer copolymerizable therewith: ##STR1## wherein R denotes an optionally substituted biphenylyl or naphthyl group, and R.sub.1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for producing a granular polyarylene sulfide which has a high melt viscosity and a high degree of cross-linkage, becomes gel under melting and is easy to handle in the production and the fabrication thereof.The process disclosed herein comprises (1) a step (A) an initial-stage polymerization step for obtaining a polyarylene sulfide by reacting an alkali metal sulfide, a dihaloaromatic compound and a polyhaloaromatic compound, having three or more halogen substituents in a molecule, in the presence of water in an amount of 0.5 to 2.9 moles per mol of said alkali metal sulfide at a temperature in the range of 180.degree. to 235.degree. C. until the total conversion ratio of said dihalo- and polyhaloaromatic compounds reaches 50 to 98% and the melt viscosity of a polyarylene sulfide obtained at the end of the step becomes 5 to 5,000 poise, measured at 310.degree. C.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method for batchwisely calcining and activating infusibilized spherical pitch beads in an upper stage and a lower stage fluidized beds formed on respective perforated plates, by calcining the pitch beads in the upper stage at 600-800.degree. C. with a heated exhaust gas from a space for the lower stage, discharging activated carbon beads of the previous batch from the space for the lower stage, stopping the fluidization of the upper stage by guiding the exhaust gas from the space for the lower stage to the space for the upper stage through a bypass line so that the calcined beads can fall down to the space for the lower stage through the holes of the perforated plate of the upper stage, and activating the falling calcined beads at 800-1200.degree. C. while forming the lower stage fluidized bed with a heated calcining and activating gas, and a furnace used for the above method.

    Abstract: A biaxially stretched heat-shrinkable laminated film is disclosed which possesses good heat-shrinkability, excellent melt hole resistance and heat-resistant sealing property (the heat resistance of a seal portion), and highly satisfactory cold resistance, retains transparency even after shrinkage, and serves advantageously as a wrap for packaging foodstuffs. The laminated film is provided as an oxygen barrier layer with a layer of a mixture of vinylidene chloride resin and a low melting point polyamide resin having a crystalline melting point of not higher than 210.degree. C. This mixed resin has been cross-linked by applying the electron beam to the laminate in a dosage in the range of 1 to 12 megarads. The laminated film exhibits a heat shrinkage percentage of not less than 15% at 90.degree. C. and excels in gas barrier property.

    Abstract: A graft copolymer is formed by graft-polymerizing 10-95 wt. parts of a vinyl monomer onto 5-90 wt. parts of the rubber polymer which comprises 40-99 wt. % of butadiene and 1-60 wt. % of an aromatic polycyclic vinyl monomer represented by the following formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## wherein R denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The graft copolymer is characterized by the rubber polymer having a high refractive index as well as a low glass transition temperature due to the use of the aromatic polycyclic vinyl monomer. Accordingly, the graft copolymer per se may be used as a thermoplastic resin having good transparency and impact resistance at a low rubber polymer content and may also be added to a transparent thermoplastic resin inclusive of a vinyl chloride resin and a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin to provide the thermoplastic resin with an improved impact resistance while retaining a good transparency.
