Abstract: The object of the invention is to improve the performance of the rolls of roughing and finishing stands of a hot strip train or mill and in particular to retard as far as possible the banding phenomenon, namely the phenomenon of the incrusting of hard oxides or scale formed at the conventional rolling temperatures. For this purpose, the roll is made, at least in the working region thereof, from a chrome steel in which the ratio between the respective contents of chromium and carbon is between 7 and 12 and in which the content of equivalent carbon is between 1.5 and 1.7%. This content of equivalent carbon is calculated as the sum of the content of carbon and the content of chromium, the latter being given a coefficient 0.05.

Abstract: A bacterial vaccine against Salmonella fevers, typhoid and paratyphoid fevers is obtained by fermentation, extraction and purification, vaccinating membrane antigens being extracted by putting the bacterial residue, obtained by centrifuging, in contact with a solvent of the tris (hydroxyalkyl) aminoalkane class, with stirring, at lowered temperature, pH adjusted between 8.4 and 8.6 for a period of at least some 60 hours, then, separated by decanting, followed by purifying the antigens and fractionating by ultrafiltration, and then freeze-drying the vaccinating antigen fraction. Such vaccinating antigen fraction has a molecular weight greater than 50,000, preferably 300,000, and is used to vaccinate humans and animals.

Abstract: An oxygenated lixiviant is transported down an injection pipe into the leach zone at the bottom of an injection pipe, the lixiviant leaches the ore and the pregnant lixiviant containing metal compounds is recovered through a recovery pipe. The metal compounds are separated from the lixiviant and the lixiviant is regenerated, reoxygenated and recycled. The pressure of the lixiviant at the downstream end of the injection pipe is substantially equal to the pressure of the lixiviant at the upstream end thereby permitting maximum oxygenation without any degassing.

Abstract: A high frequency-high voltage generator supplies current, on one hand, to a first arc striking circuit connecting a main electrode to an auxiliary electrode and, on the other hand, to a second arc striking circuit which connects one of the two electrodes to the workpiece to be treated. In this way there is achieved a striking of the arc in two stages. This ensures high reliability regardless of the nature of the material from which the workpiece is made regardless of the protecting gas used, in particular for the TIG welding of light alloys in a helium atmosphere. The device is applicable to an automatic TIG welding.

Abstract: A freezing device for biological products comprises an impeller arranged at the top of a sleeve located above a basin of liquid nitrogen. The impeller causes a rising flow of nitrogen vapors within the sleeve and a descending flow outside it, the impeller and sleeve being arranged within a casing. When cooling is completed, the sleeve is lowered into the basin of liquid nitrogen. The invention is applied to the freezing of biological products stored in tubes, ampoules, phials, or straws arranged at the base of the sleeve.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for liquefying a gas such as natural gas, utilizing at least one cycle fluid comprising a refrigerating mixture, with at least one first principal cycle fluid under a low pressure in countercurrent heat exchange with the gas which is to be liquefied and with at least one second principal cycle fluid under a high pressure. At least one secondary cycle fluid is obtained by withdrawing a portion in liquid phase from the refrigerating mixture at the high pressure and is expanded to the low pressure and is then added to the first principal cycle fluid.

Abstract: Containers 6, adapted to receive a product which does not of itself give off a gas, receive an amount of a liquefied pressurizing gas from a tank 1 provided with an outlet nozzle 3. The containers 6 are aligned on a machine 7 which conveys them, in the direction of the alignment, under the tank 1 which is provided with trunnions 2 and is oriented in such manner as to be pivotable about an axis parallel to the direction of alignment. A control device 8 regulates the angular position of the tank 1. The amount of the liquefied pressurizing gas received in each container depends on the angular position of the tank relative to the vertical position.

Abstract: This invention relates to the gasification of coal. An oxygen jet having a pointed flame is engendered in situ, so as to strike the coal with a sheath of steam. The resultant fuel gas is drawn off while flowing in counterflow with the jet of oxygen and is brought to the surface through the same bore which had served the purpose of supplying oxygen. The invention is particularly applicable to the underground gasification of coal in situ.
