  • Patent number: 8620764
Abstract: A recommendation engine of a recommender system provides a mobile device user with a personalized recommendation based on, at least in part, the user's current situation. In some embodiments, the recommender system determines the user's current situation by obtaining information identifying the user's present context(s) (e.g., location context, noise context, time context, etc.). For example, assume the user presently has the location context of “at home” and the noise context of “TV on.” From these contexts, the recommender system can categorize the user as being in the “at home relaxing” situation.

  • Patent number: 8619906
Abstract: A method and system for pre-distorting a dual band signal to compensate for distortion of a non-linear power amplifier in a radio transmitter are disclosed. In one embodiment, the first signal of the dual band signal is tuned to a first intermediate frequency to produce a first tuned signal and the second signal of the dual band signal is tuned to minus the intermediate frequency to produce a second tuned signal. A single input pre-distorter pre-distorts the sum of the first tuned signal and the second tuned signal. The coefficients of the pre-distorter are obtained from a one-dimensional look-up table.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method in a call session control node (18, 200) for a packet-switched telecommunications network (10). The call session control node (18, 200) comprises an originating call handling function (202) and a terminating call handling function (204). The method comprises the steps of: receiving (100, 300) a message (14) for a called entity on the originating call handling function (202); determining (106, 400) with the originating call handling function (202) whether the called entity is registered with the call session control node (18, 200); and, if the called entity is registered with the call session control node (18, 200), routing (110, 500) the message (14) to the terminating call handling function (204), without traversing an inbound call session control function.

  • Patent number: 8619904
Abstract: As a basis for precoder quantization, a channel matrix representing multi-antenna channel characteristics between a transmitter and a receiver in the mobile communications network is estimated (S1). A channel-assisted vector selection procedure (S2-S4) for iteratively selecting precoding vectors for a precoding matrix is performed. Each of a number of iterations of the novel iterative vector selection procedure generally involves evaluation (S2) of the performance of each one of a set of candidate vectors included in a given vector codebook with respect to a predetermined performance measure that is dependent on the estimated channel matrix, and selection (S3) of one of the set of candidate vectors as a respective precoding vector for the precoding matrix based on the evaluated performance. Information representative of a set of selected precoding vectors is then compiled (S5) to form a quantized representation of the precoding matrix for transmission to the transmitter side.

  • Patent number: 8620605
Abstract: A method for detecting and determining a position of faults using reflectometry in a wired electrical network including: injecting a test signal e(t) into a cable in the electrical network, a timing of successive injections being controlled by a synchronization module that generates an emission clock signal and a reception clock signal; retrieving a reflected signal on the cable; sampling the reflected signal at a frequency Fe=1/Te, where Te is a sampling period; counting a number of samples obtained for the reflected signal and comparing the number of samples obtained with a number n predefined as a function of a length of the cable or the electrical network to be diagnosed, where n is an integer; repeating the injecting, the sampling, and the counting steps N times, shifting the emission clock signal by a duration ?; reconstituting the reflected signal from n*N samples obtained; and analyzing the reconstituted reflected signal to detect a fault.

  • Patent number: 8618969
Abstract: A multi-DAC system includes a plurality of DACs arranged in parallel for converting a digital signal to an analog signal, each DAC path having a different analog phase response. The system further includes a circuit for multiplying the digital signal input to at least some of the DACs by a multiplicand sufficient to shift a peak of a frequency response of the multi-DAC system to a non-DC frequency. For example, a series of +1 and/or ?1 digital values can be used to multiply the digital signal so that the signal has the same number of bits pre and post multiplication. The multiplicand can include a constant series of +1 or ?1 digital values, or a time-varying series of +1 and ?1 digital values. In each case, the peak frequency response of the multi-DAC system can be shifted away from DC to a multiple of the sampling frequency of the DACs.

  • Patent number: 8619665
Abstract: Solutions are described that enable a user equipment (UE) for a communication system always to derive required identifiers using an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) even when the UE has only a subscriber identity module. One solution is based on a table, or list, that is maintained in the UE. Another solution is based on always taking a predetermined number of digits of the IMSI. Yet another solution is based on try-and-fail signaling. In consequence, the UE does not always need to know how many digits of the IMSI are used to indicate a mobile network code, which in some situations is impossible to know anyway.

  • Patent number: 8619635
Abstract: An e-tree service that includes establishing two pseudowires (PW) between edge network elements with enhanced packet forwarding is described. In one embodiment, a root PW is used for carrying packets that are sent from a root node network element, and a leaf PW is used for carrying packets that are sent from a leaf node network element in the e-tree service network. When a network element receives a packet with a destination Media Access Control (MAC) address on the logical port associated with the leaf access circuit (AC), responsive to determining that the destination MAC address corresponds to a MAC address in a MAC address table stored in the network element, and that an attribute associated with that MAC address in the MAC address table indicates the MAC address was learned from the leaf PW, the network element drops the packet.

  • Patent number: 8619742
Abstract: A block coding method and system for improving the reliability of Channel Quality Indicators (CQI) and antenna weight Indicators (AWI) reporting. A user terminal first generates 8-bit CQI and 2-bit AWI. A codeword generator produces a codeword responsive to these 10 CQI/AWI bits using a codebook or a generator matrix of a (20,10,6) code. The (20,10,6) code has a minimum Hamming distance of 6 The encoded codeword is transmitted to a receiver for decoding utilizing an identical (20,10,6) codebook.

  • Patent number: 8619689
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement for triggering a Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure for requesting uplink resources on a random access channel to a radio base station (600) scheduler based on a change in terminal (700) buffer status as compared to a Buffer Status Report BSR stored in said terminal. In a first method step, the status of the present terminal buffer content, i.e. terminal buffer data, is compared with the status of said stored buffer status report BSR. A second method step involves initiating a RACH procedure for indicating a service request to said base station scheduler upon detecting a change of buffer status at said comparison. The service request includes an indicator of the status change as a trigger for said scheduler to assign uplink resources to said terminal.
