  • Patent number: 8537804
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automated prefix delegation for a network entity in a communication network. A network entity receives from a first neighboring network entity a first prefix that relate to the first neighboring network entity, and a path length to a core network entity via the first neighboring network entity. The network entity also receives from a second neighboring network entity a second prefix that relates to the second neighboring network entity, and a path length to a core network entity via the second neighboring network entity. The network entity then selects a neighboring network entity on the basis of the path length to the core network entity, and delegates a prefix for the network entity by concatenating the prefix of the selected neighboring network entity with an identifier for the network entity.

  • Patent number: 8538469
Abstract: A method for initial scanning of frequencies at start-up of a multi-band cellular communication apparatus is disclosed. The method comprises determining whether there is any interfering signal from any other communication system transmitting at a frequency in vicinity of frequencies of frequency bands of which the multi-band cellular communication apparatus is supposed to establish contact with a base station in at least one of the frequencies within the frequency bands. If the determination gives a result of no interfering signal, a first scan procedure is applied comprising plain scanning of the frequencies of the frequency bands of which the multi-band cellular communication apparatus is supposed to establish contact with a base station in at least one of the frequencies within the frequency bands, or if the determination gives a result of an interfering signal, a second scan procedure is applied, taking into account the determined interfering signal.

  • Patent number: 8537671
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method performed in a packet processor core for policing a packet through a hierarchical policer coupled to one or more policing requestors. The hierarchical policer has a plurality of meter levels including an initial level and one or more subsequent levels. The hierarchical policer creates a meter result at the meter of each meter level using packet characteristics and a meter state for that meter level. The hierarchical policer generates meter level outputs that classify the packet for each meter level and for at least one of the subsequent levels the meter level output is based on the meter level output from a previous meter level. The hierarchical policer performs a meter combine operation that produces a final packet output attribute from the combination of the meter level outputs. The hierarchical policer returns the final packet output attribute to a policing requestor.

  • Patent number: 8537679
Abstract: A method for load balancing IPTV channels is described. In one embodiment of the invention, a first Provider Edge (PE) network element of a label switched network, coupled with a second PE network element over multiple member links of an aggregate link, receives IPTV packets. For each IPTV packet received, the first PE network determines layer 3 information of the IPTV packet, and generates one or more channel load balancing keys based on the layer 3 information. The PE network element generates a hash value from the channel load balancing keys and determines which one of multiple member links to transmit the IPTV packet on based on the hash value, and transmits the IPTV packet to the second PE network element on the determined member link. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.

  • Patent number: 8538464
Abstract: Code words are assigned to subscriber stations or groups of subscriber stations in a communication network for a quick paging mechanism in which the assigned code words are transmitted as quick paging signals over unused frequency resources to signal the subscriber stations. Subsets of multiple code words from a set of code words can be assigned to respective paging groups, and overlapping subsets can be assigned to multiple paging groups. This enables a single code word to be used to address either a single paging group or multiple paging groups.

  • Patent number: 8535503
Abstract: The device comprises first and second contact pads having a contact surface. The first and second contact pads move with respect to one another between an ohmic contact position between these contact surfaces and another position. The device further comprises means for applying a non-uniform electric field around the first contact pad. The electric field has a component in a direction parallel to the contact surface of the first contact pad. A fluid with a first dielectric permittivity value is arranged between the first contact pad and the decontamination electrode. The decontamination device and the fluid are configured in such a way that the electric field generates a force directed towards the decontamination electrode on a contaminant, by dielectrophoresis.

  • Patent number: 8537734
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method in a user equipment of saving radio resources in a communication network system comprising a communication network node (15) communicating withto one or more user equipments (18) on uplink (17) and downlink (16) data channels over a radio interface, whereby a transmission power 5 value on said uplink data channel (17) is determined by adding a power offset value to a pre-determined reference power value. A carrier-to-interference (C/I) value on said uplink data channel (17) is determined and said power offset value is then determined based on said determined carrier-to-interference value, whereby said power offset value is determined in said user equipment (18) instead of being received over said radio interface 10 from said communication network node (15).

  • Patent number: 8537810
Abstract: An e-tree service that includes establishing two pseudowires (PW) between edge network elements with enhanced address learning is described. In one embodiment, a root PW and a leaf PW are used for carrying packets from a root node and from a leaf node, respectively. When a network element receives a packet on the root PW, the network element associates the source Media Access Control (MAC) address of the packet with the logical port associated with the root PW in a root PW MAC address table, and also associates the source MAC address with the logical port associated with the leaf PW in a leaf PW MAC address table. When a network element receives a packet on the leaf PW, the network element associates the source MAC address of this packet with the logical port that is associated with the root PW in the root PW MAC address table.
