  • Patent number: 8458326
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for sampling from distributed data streams. Data elements are received at site servers configured to collect and report data to a coordinator device. The site servers assign a binary string to each of the data elements. Each bit of the binary strings can be independently set to a 0 or a 1 with a probability of one half. The binary string is used to sample from the received data elements, and the data elements and/or the sampled data elements can be transmitted to a coordinator device. The coordinator device can examine one or more bits of the binary string to draw samples of the received data elements in accordance with desired probabilities.

  • Patent number: 8456989
Abstract: During an initial part of a communication session, a transmitting node transmits digital data over a first air interface channel to a receiving node, using a first data rate and a first level of repetition. A degradation in quality of the communication session is detected. During a subsequent part of the communication session, the transmitting node transmits digital data over the first air interface channel as before but also transmits the digital data over a second air interface channel, using a second data rate and a second level of repetition. The second data rate is higher than the first data rate, and the second level of repetition is higher than the first level of repetition. Thus, during a given transmission period, the transmitting node may transmit a voice frame once over the first air interface channel and N times over the second air interface channel.

  • Patent number: 8458643
Abstract: An embodiment of an integrated circuit design framework comprises a user interface which automatically initializes a three-dimensional simulation tool for simulating or analyzing the characteristics of a complex metallization system. In some illustrative embodiments the user interface may additionally provide electrically simulated parameter values for an input parameter, such as the channel resistance of a power transistor, thereby enabling a simulation of a portion of interest of the metallization system without actually requiring the provision of the design data of the power transistor.

  • Patent number: 8457038
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for adjusting access node scanning based on the velocity of a wireless communication device. In a particular embodiment, a method provides scanning for a first wireless access node to determine a received power level and comparing the received power level to a threshold power level. If the received power level exceeds the threshold, the method provides exchanging communications with the first wireless access node. The method further provides determining a velocity of the wireless device and adjusting the threshold power level based on the velocity. The method further provides scanning for a second wireless access node to determine a second received power level and comparing the second received power level to the adjusted threshold power level. If the second received power level exceeds the adjusted threshold, the method provides exchanging communications with the second wireless access node.

  • Patent number: 8458796
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for hardware-based pattern matching. In an embodiment, an intrusion-prevention system (IPS) identifies a full match between a subject data word comprising subject-data blocks and a signature data pattern comprising signature-data blocks. The IPS receives the subject data word via a network interface, and thereafter makes a partial-match determination that two or more but less than all of the subject-data blocks respectively match the same number of the signature-data blocks stored in partial-match hardware with respect to both value and position. Thereafter, the IPS makes a full-match determination that all of the subject-data blocks respectively match all of the signature-data blocks stored in the IPS's full-match hardware with respect to both value and position. The IPS then stores an indicator that the full-match determination has been made, and may carry out one or more additional intrusion-prevention responses as well.

  • Patent number: 8457366
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, computer-implemented methods, and tangible computer-readable media for matching faces. The method includes receiving an image of a face of a first person from a device of a second person, comparing the image of the face of the first person to a database of known faces in a contacts list of the second person, identifying a group of potential matching faces from the database of known faces, and displaying to the second person the group of potential matching faces. In one variation, the method receives input selecting one face from the group of potential matching faces and displays additional information about the selected one face. In a related variation, the method displays additional information about one or more face in the displayed group of potential matching faces without receiving input.

  • Patent number: 8458336
Abstract: An interactive system, such as a webserver, is described of the type wherein responses to a user are associated with states of a state machine, the responses being generated as a result of a transition into a state associated with the response, the system comprising a state machine controller arranged to change states of the state machine according to the processing of user-initiated events. To provide for handling of concurrent events, the state machine controller is arranged, during processing of a current event, to determine whether the current event was initiated at an earlier time than another event and, if so, (i) restore the state machine to a condition consistent with that immediately prior to processing of the current event, and then (ii) carry out a state transition according the other event.

  • Patent number: 8456531
Abstract: Video alignment and calibration, which is needed for video quality measurement in full-reference mode, is performed continuously on the videos being measured to account for alignment parameters that may change over time. With this technique, the quality of video files and/or live video streams can be measured in full-reference mode in real-time. During video alignment, the temporal and spatial offsets, as well as any spatial, luminance or color transformations between the two videos are measured; during video calibration, the video frames are adjusted for these offsets and transformations so that the video quality can be measured correctly.

  • Patent number: 8457025
Abstract: Method and nodes for selecting a network prefix to be advertised in an IP network comprising an access router and a mobile node (MN). From the access router, a first validity period is used to advertise at least a first and a second network prefixes towards the MN. The access router receives a message from the MN indicating an intended address thereof that it intends to use. In the access router, based on the message, only one of the first or second network prefix that the MN needs to use is then determined. The access router afterwards advertises towards the MN the only one network prefix with a second validity period longer than the first validity period. The access router may further acquire a current address and a current network prefix used by the MN and it may use these in the determination of the only one network prefix.
