Abstract: Systems and methods use mobile telephones as input devices for recording audio messages on a server. A user inputs a first feature code into the mobile telephone and the feature code is sent to a mobile switching center (MSC). The MSC maps the feature code to a server and forwards the feature code and a user identification to the server. Once the mobile telephone is connected to the server, the user can record his audio message. The user can later retrieve the recorded audio message by inputting a second feature code into the mobile telephone. The second feature code is also assigned to the server. The recorded message is played after the mobile telephone is connected to the server.

Abstract: Media coating composition and inkjet recording media including it. An example composition includes a total solid content ranging from about 10 to about 65 weight percent by total weight of the composition. The solid content includes from about 80 to about 99 weight percent of insoluble starch nanoparticles having a particle size ranging from about 50 to about 300 nm and from about 1 to about 20 weight percent of fillers by total weight of the solid content. A disclosed example inkjet recording media includes a supporting substrate, and the coating composition disposed on the substrate.

Abstract: An image of a known text sample having a text type is generated. The image of the known text sample is input into each OCR engine of a number of OCR engines. Output text corresponding to the image of the known text sample is received from each OCR engine. For each OCR engine, the output text received from the OCR engine is compared with the known text sample, to determine a confidence value of the OCR engine for the text type of the known text sample.

Abstract: Policy-based, delegated limited network access management places day-to-day control of network access in the hands of authorized users, referred to as resource access administrators, selected for their business knowledge and ability to respond quickly to business events. Resource access administrators have the ability to respond, in the form of access decisions proposed by individuals with knowledge or, or responsibility for business processes and business partner relationships and shaped and pre-approved by network security specialists, referred to as network access administrators. This approach, therefore, reduces the cost, complexity, and delay (latency) associated with managing external network access without compromising network security.

Abstract: A hydraulically driven reciprocating pump. In some embodiments, the pump includes a housing including a hydraulic chamber, a cylinder coupled to the housing, a piston assembly adapted for reciprocal motion within the housing and the cylinder, the piston assembly separating the hydraulic chamber into three subchambers, and a hydraulic system fluidicly coupled to each of the subchambers. The hydraulic system is actuatable to deliver hydraulic fluid to a first of the subchambers, whereby the piston assembly strokes back and a working fluid is drawn into the cylinder, to deliver hydraulic fluid to a second of the subchambers, whereby the piston assembly strokes out and the working fluid is exhausted from the cylinder, and to adjust a volume of hydraulic fluid within a third of the subchambers, whereby the piston assembly translates to bring a pressure of the working fluid in the cylinder to within a pre-selected range.

Abstract: An embodiment of a method and system are provided for managing both system resources and power consumption of a computer system, involving different layers of the system: an application layer, a middle layer where the operating system is running and where a power manager is provided, and a hardware layer used for communicating with the hardware devices. Hardware devices have different operating modes which provide distinct trade-offs between performances and power consumption. Performance requirements defined at the level of the application layer, as well as the device power status of the system, set constraints on the system resources. The middle layer power manager may be in charge of retrieving performance requirements in form of constraints set on system parameters, aggregating these constraints opportunely and communicating corresponding information to the device drivers which may then select a best operating mode.

Abstract: Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for enabling a user to receive a message at the time of an incoming call. One embodiment of the method includes receiving a set of dialed digits from a calling device, recognizing a code in the dialed digits, and sending display information (based on the code) to a target device, which presents the display information before the call is answered.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for determining whether a persistent or non-persistent connection should be given to a device that requested a web page. In one embodiment, upon receiving a request for the web page, the characteristics of the web page are evaluated to determine whether a persistent connection will be efficiently used when accessing with the web page. In another embodiment, the requesting user's behavior may be evaluated to determine whether, based on past behavior, the user will effectively use a persistent connection to the requested web site. A persistent connection is granted to requesting browsers most likely to make efficient use of the persistent connection based on the characteristics of the requested web site and/or the requesting user's browsing habits.

Abstract: A system for recording writing performed on a surface includes a rechargeable stylus, a rechargeable eraser, and a charging station for one or both of the rechargeable stylus and the rechargeable eraser. Each of the rechargeable stylus and the rechargeable eraser includes a pair of charging rings. The charging rings are disposed so as to contact a corresponding pair of charging contacts on a receptacle on the charging station for the stylus or the eraser. The receptacle, charging contacts, and charging rings cooperate to charge rechargeable stylus or the rechargeable eraser when the stylus or eraser is placed into the receptacle.

Abstract: A collaborative work environment is provided that supports collaboration among users for performance of a people service that is associated with ad-hoc activities. An information base is provided that includes information relating to responsibilities of the users and work items for the ad-hoc activities. An interactive guidance structure is presented in the collaborative environment to guide actions of the users with respect to the work items. Materials produced as a result of the actions to update the information base are collected.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for performing a distributed control of end-to-end media on packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks are disclosed. The method first receives a request from a first media endpoint device for opening at least one media channel to a second media endpoint device wherein said request contains a descriptor of said first media endpoint device. The method then updates one or more slot states and link states in response to said request and records the current state of each slot for supporting said media channel. The method also records the most recently received descriptor of said media endpoint device as a most recent descriptor for said slot supporting said media channel. The method executes one or more link objects in response to said request for controlling said at least one media channel.

Abstract: An application provisioning device may be used to manage a profile of a host and provide data corresponding to a selected application for installation at a host. A reverse firewall may use the profile of the host to determine whether to allow or block particular network communication from an application running on the host. An indication of a selected application may be received at the application provisioning device. Configuration information may also be received at the application provisioning device. The application provisioning server may request an update to the profile of a host and transmit such a request. The profile may be updated to reflect the configuration information and/or information of the selected application. Data corresponding to the selected application may be updated and transmitted to a host computer, where it may be installed. Therefore, the installed application running on the host may operate without being prematurely blocked by the reverse firewall.

Abstract: Recognizable visual and/or audio artifacts, such as recognizable sounds, are introduced into visual and/or audio content in an identifying pattern to generate a signed visual and/or audio recording for distribution over a digital communications medium. A library of images and/or sounds may be provided, and the image and/or sounds from the library may be selectively inserted to generate the identifying pattern. The images and/or sounds may be inserted responsive to one or more parameters associated with creation of the visual and/or audio content. A representation of the identifying pattern may be generated and stored in a repository, e.g., an independent repository configured to maintain creative rights information. The stored pattern may be retrieved from the repository and compared to an unidentified visual and/or audio recording to determine an identity thereof.

Abstract: A method and system for remote control at a client of a multimedia content distribution network (MCDN) enables a user to configure a wireless user device as a remote control device (RCD). The RCD may communicate via a wireless network and an MCDN server to execute remote control commands at the MCDN client. The RCD may implement a remote control interface, including control elements configured for touch operation. The control elements may provide specific interactive functionality for channel selection, volume selection, playback of multimedia content, and other remote control features. The RCD may also receive feedback and status information associated with remote control commands.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that assures component circuits transported in aggregated circuits restore correctly after an aggregated circuit fault. The system and method implements component circuit tail segment integrity checks whenever an aggregated circuit is restored in a higher level of a network hierarchy. Switches at both ends of an aggregated circuit perform circuit integrity checks of the tail segments of every component circuit. A failure of the component circuit integrity check on any component circuit causes that component circuit to be released and restored end-to-end.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for controlling uplink transmit power to be used by the UE. The UE comprises multiple radio interfaces wherein at least one of the multiple interfaces is a cellular radio interface. The UE stores information comprising a total transmit power budget set aside for use over the multiple radio interfaces of the UE and receives transmit power control commands from a network node on the cellular radio interface indicating whether the UE should increase or decrease or maintain the uplink transmit power on the cellular radio interface. Transmit power levels to be used for uplink transmissions over the multiple radio interfaces based on the received transmit power control commands are calculated, wherein the said total transmit power budget for the multiple radio interfaces is taken into account.

Abstract: A method and system for auxiliary data detection. Data is received on a hand-held device from a display of a signal on a monitor. The signal is visually displayed on the monitor at a frequency. A modulated video signal is received on the hand-held device from a display device. The modulated video signal contains auxiliary data modulated within a video signal in a substantially invisible way. The modulated video signal is demodulated to obtain the auxiliary data. At least one of the data or the auxiliary data is processed to identify a promotional opportunity available through the hand-held device. The user of the hand-held device is notified of availability of the promotional opportunity through the hand-held device.
