  • Patent number: 10977580
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for integrating common sense into a machine learning (ML) system. In contrast to existing machine learning algorithms that search for statistical correlations between concepts, exemplary embodiments attempt to learn the semantic relationships or causality between the concepts. This may be accomplished by training an algorithm or data structure to learn similar vector representations of words present in the same context (e.g., that are present together in the same sentence). The resulting AI/ML, structure may be used to guide the generation of a causal graph having predictive capabilities. This causal graph may represent semantic relationships and/or causation between concepts, and hence may be employed to introduce a degree of common sense in the machine learning system.

  • Patent number: 10974720
Abstract: A sliding bumper apparatus and system for use with a motor vehicle to prevent the vehicle from making contact with objects that can result in damage and/or injury. A frame of the apparatus attaches to the vehicle to extend outward from the vehicle. A pair of elongated indicator rods are slidably supported by the frame. Transversely positioned detector rods are pivotally connected to the distal end of the apparatus to contact objects in the path ahead of the moving vehicle. A switch at the proximal end of the apparatus is engaged by sliding movement of the indicator rods. A spring biases the switch to a closed position to allow movement of the vehicle. If the apparatus contacts an object that should not be hit by the vehicle, the impact force will overcome the spring and open the switch to stop the vehicle before it hits the object.

  • Patent number: 10975829
Abstract: A spark plug combustion ionization sensor for measuring ion current inside the cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The sensor measures ion current which flows when the energy released during combustion ionizes the air inside the cylinder, and thus can detect combustion and emission parameters. The spark plug combustion ionization sensor generally includes an insulated, dedicated sensing electrode, separate from the sparking electrode of a spark plug. The sensing electrode may also be shielded to further reduce interference such as electromagnetic interference (EMI). The use of a dedicated electrode allows for ion current measurement with less electromagnetic noise from the ignition process, and also eliminates the need for circuitry that is typically necessary when the sparking electrode is also used to sense ion current.
