Abstract: Implementations of semiconductor devices may include: a plurality of drain fingers and a plurality of source fingers interdigitated with one another; at least one gate; and at gate bus formed to completely surround the plurality of drain fingers and the plurality of source fingers; wherein the gate bus is mechanically and electrically coupled to the at least one gate.
Abstract: A statistical multiplexer (statmux) system for encoding multiple channels of digital television data is provided with improved algorithms for determining bitrate for encoding and decoding to account for signal complexity. The variable bit rate (VBR) encoders and encoding are provided in a statmux system by employing a CBR (constant bit rate) adapter. A CBR adapter can provide correcting state updates on a per-frame basis to a CBR encoder element, thereby enabling VBR capability.
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed that detect and/or prevent intraoperative full thickness penetration of anatomic walls and provide delineation of anatomic structures during surgery.
Abstract: Methods of encoding and decoding video in a low-fidelity mode are described. A coding unit level low-fidelity flag is present in the bitstream to signal whether low-fidelity mode is enabled for a particular coding unit or not. If enabled, then, for that coding unit, the chroma quantization parameter is determined using the luma quantization parameter adjusted by a low-fidelity-mode offset. If not enabled, then, for that coding unit, the chroma quantization parameter is determined using the luma quantization parameter without adjustment by the low-fidelity-mode offset. The chroma quantization parameter is then used in the scaling of quantized chroma transform domain coefficients. Use with luma or other video components is also proposed.
Abstract: A system reduces power consumption by optimizing a selection of acoustic sensors of a sensor array based on environmental parameters of a local area. The system includes the sensor array including the acoustic sensors configured to detect sound in a local area, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry is configured to: determine an environmental parameter of the local area; determine a performance metric for the sensor array; determine a selection of a subset of acoustic sensors from the acoustic sensors of the sensor array that satisfies the performance metric based on the environmental parameter of the local area; and process audio data from the subset of the acoustic sensors of the sensor array.
Abstract: A downhole apparatus for use in a tubular include a mandrel, a first slip, a cone, and a seal element. The mandrel, which can be permanent or temporary, has a first end shoulder. The first slip is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first end shoulder, and the cone is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the first slip. The cone is movable relative to the first end shoulder to engage the first slip toward the tubular. The seal element is disposed on the mandrel adjacent the cone. At least a portion of the seal element is composed of a dissolvable metallic material and is expandable outward from the mandrel. The expanded portion of the seal element forms a metal seal against the tubular and seals off fluid communication in the annular space between the seal element and the tubular.

Abstract: An automatic dispensing device for volatile fluid operable to apply one or more agent to a local environment for more than 14 days. Preferred devices dispense a first agent for air freshening, and may optionally dispense a second agent, such as a drain cleaner. A workable drain cleaner is structured to permit a slow release of drain cleaning agent. A dispensing device may nonexclusively operate by evaporation of volatile fluid from a carrier material that is infused with the volatile fluid; gravity-induced drip from a bulk supply of volatile fluid through a small orifice onto an emanator; osmotic transfer of volatile fluid from a bulk supply; gas-pump drive of volatile fluid at controlled pressure; or diffusion of volatile fluid through a wall of a container of bulk volatile fluid; and combinations thereof.
Abstract: A facility for authoring a document is described. The facility receives first user input that identifies content to be included in the document. The identified content is in a first form. The facility also receives second user input that specifies a transformation operation to be performed on the identified content in order to transform the identified content from the first form into a second form. The facility applies the specified transformation operation to transform the identified content from the first form into the second form for display.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems allow for bootstrapping of a machine-to-machine device. In an embodiment, a bootstrap erase architecture allows the machine-to-machine server to manage bootstrap erase policies, detect access network specific events, initiate a bootstrap erase based on these policies and events, and allow for machine-to-machine server handover. A device or gateway service capability layer (182) requests its network service capability layer to fetch data that the device or gateway previously stored on a different network service capability layer (196, 197). In an embodiment, when bootstrap erase is performed because the network service capability layer can no longer provide service to the device or gateway, the network service capability layer may recommend other NSCLs to the device or gateway. In another embodiment, a bootstrap erase procedure may be modified so that temporary identifiers may be assigned for a next bootstrapping event.
Abstract: A method includes generating, by an illumination source, an optical beam and coupling the optical beam into an acousto-optic device. The acousto-optic device generates structured light from the coupled optical beam by diffracting the optical beam into at least two interfering optical beams. The interfering optical beams are then used to illuminate a surface of an eye of a user of a display for use in eye-tracking.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for optical waveguides that are well-suited for use in wearable heads-up displays (WHUDs) are described. An optical waveguide includes a volume of optically transparent material, a first holographic optical element (HOE) and a second holographic optical element, wherein the first HOE and the second HOE are carried by the volume of optically transparent material, and the first HOE is positioned across a width of the volume of optically transparent material from the second HOE. Light enters the optical waveguide and is propagated down a length of the waveguide by reflection between the first HOE and the second HOE. Propagation of the light within the optical waveguide does not require total internal reflection. The optical waveguide may include means to in-couple the light into the waveguide and means to out-couple the light from the waveguide. WHUDs that employ such optical waveguides are also described.

Abstract: In this work, it is shown for the first time that the power and the impedance in a transformer circuit depend on the phase of the flux, hence the phase of the current. There is a phase change when the flux travels the magnetic core, and formulas for the effect of the phase change in the power and the impedance are derived. Therefore, the power factor can be adjusted so that the power is delivered more at the load than that, at the primary supplied by the source.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for optimizing operations for a fracturing injection waste disposal well especially where the formation is damaged or tight such that pressure fall-off tests are impractical due to extended leak-off rate times. Formation closure pressure and formation stress are calculated using Instantaneous Shut-in Pressure rather than traditional methods requiring actual fracture closure.
