Abstract: Differential Holography technology measures the amplitude and/or phase of, e.g., an incident linearly polarized spatially coherent quasi-monochromatic optical field by optically computing the first derivative of the field and linearly mapping it to an irradiance signal detectable by an image sensor. This information recorded on the image sensor is then recovered by a simple algorithm. In some embodiments, an input field is split into two or more beams to independently compute the horizontal and vertical derivatives (using amplitude gradient filters in orthogonal orientations) for detection on one image sensor in separate regions of interest (ROIs) or on multiple image sensors. A third unfiltered beam recorded in a third ROI directly measures amplitude variations in the input field to numerically remove its contribution as noise before recovering the original wavefront using a numerical in algorithm.

Abstract: A surgical tool includes a drive housing, a drive input and input shaft rotatably mounted to the drive housing, and a drive assembly mounted to the input shaft and including an upper capstan rotatably mounted to the input shaft with a first one-way bearing, and a lower capstan rotatably mounted to the input shaft with a second one-way bearing. First and second drive cables are coupled to the upper and lower capstans and extend to an end effector of the surgical tool. Rotating the input shaft in a first angular direction rotationally disengages the lower capstan from the input shaft and drives the upper capstan in the first angular direction, and rotating the input shaft in a second angular direction rotationally disengages the upper capstan from the input shaft and drives the lower capstan in the second angular direction.

Abstract: In a broadband wireless communication system, a spread spectrum signal is intentionally overlapped with an OFDM signal, in a time domain, a frequency domain, or both. The OFDM signal, which inherently has a high spectral efficiency, is used for carrying broadband data or control information. The spread spectrum signal, which is designed to have a high spread gain for overcoming severe interference, is used for facilitating system functions such as initial random access, channel probing, or short messaging. Methods and techniques are devised to ensure that the mutual interference between the overlapped signals is minimized to have insignificant impact on either signal and that both signals are detectable with expected performance by a receiver.

Abstract: A method and a system for separating components is disclosed. A process liquid stream, containing a first component and a second component, is passed into an expansion device. The process liquid stream is expanded such that the first component and a first portion of the second component vaporize to form a process vapor stream and a second portion of the second component freezes to form a first solid product stream. The first solid product stream passes out of the expansion device. The process vapor stream passes into a direct-contact heat exchanger against a contact liquid stream. The first portion of the second component desublimates into the contact liquid stream as a second solid product stream. The contact liquid stream and the second solid product stream leave the direct-contact heat exchanger as a slurry stream. The process vapor stream leaves the direct-contact heat exchanger as a stripped process vapor stream.
