Abstract: A method of producing a functionalized material that extracts metal ions from solution, the method comprising: (i) providing a precursor material having nitrile groups appended to its surface; and (ii) reacting said nitrile groups with hydroxylamine or a derivative thereof in the presence of a polar aprotic solvent at a temperature of 60-80° C. for at least 1 hour, to convert at least a portion of said nitrile groups to amidoxime and imide dioxime groups, followed by reaction with a base capable of hydrolyzing any remaining nitrile groups to carboxylic acid groups; wherein said functionalized material has a higher uranium absorption capacity than a functionalized material produced under same conditions except that the nitrile groups are reacted with hydroxylamine in only a protic solvent. The invention is also directed to functionalized materials produced by the above-described method, and methods for using the functionalized material for extracting metal ions from metal-containing solutions.

The closed-end portion having a reservoir portion located at a proximal end of the flexible body. The open-end portion having an extendable fitted ring-like portion located at a distal end of the flexible body securing the device to finger or toe. The self-contained device further having an absorbent pad. The absorbent pad is wetted with removing solution, such as acetone. The self-contained device and absorbent pad are placed on top of the nail bed to loosened and eventually remove nail enhancement product, such as acrylic or gel, from nail bed. The self-contained device further having at least one fitted ring to further secure the device to finger or toe.

Each key can have a hole through the head, for example through approximately a center of the head. The key set can include a hub through the holes in the keys, such that the keys are coupled by and are rotatable around the hub. The magnets in the keys can silence, and resist, index, and lock rotation of the keys around the hub.

After constructing the outer frame within the external opening of the building, the method includes mounting glass to glass receiving surfaces of the top piece, the first side piece, the second side piece, and the bottom piece. After dry-in and interior wall finishing of the building, the method includes attaching a plurality of inner base caps to an interior of the outer frame. After dry-in and exterior wall finishing of the building, the method includes attaching a plurality of outer base caps to an exterior of the outer frame.

Abstract: A method for treating a breathing condition includes providing a face strip having an adhesive layer and a mesh layer disposed on the adhesive layer and applying the adhesive layer to a mouth of a patient diagnosed with a breathing condition comprising at least one of a dry mouth, a sore throat, nasal congestion, or hypoxia. The method further includes covering the patient's mouth with the face strip and providing resistance from the face strip at the patient's mouth, and increasing nasal respiration with the face strip. The face strip reduces or prevents the incidence of the breathing condition.

Abstract: A graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition is provided for forming graphene-PET containers. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition includes a continuous matrix comprising polyethylene terephthalate and a dispersed reinforcement phase comprising graphene nanoplatelets. The graphene nanoplatelets range in diameter between 5 ?m and 10 ?m with surface areas ranging from about 15 m2/g to about 150 m2/g. In some embodiments, the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate comprises a concentration of graphene nanoplatelets being substantially 3% weight fraction of the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate is configured to be injection molded into a graphene-PET preform suitable for forming a container. The graphene-PET preform is configured to be reheated above its glass transition temperature and blown into a mold so as to shape the graphene-PET preform into the container.

Abstract: A system and method for controllably varying the thickness of film deposition on a spherical or other non-flat substrate during high volume manufacturing is described. A gripping X-Y transfer stage rotates a substrate in-situ in a direction film deposition chamber. The transfer stage is driven at variable speeds to realize a desired distribution of film thickness variation around the surface of the substrate. Spatial variations in disposition thickness can be smoothly and continuously variable or abruptly changed.

Abstract: An electronic lockbox uses a rotary actuator with multiple positions to achieve multiple locking states. Multiple positions of the actuator are detected, using optical sensors. The locking mechanism includes an outer sleeve and an inner cylindrical barrel that are coupled with torsion springs. The lockbox has a shackle and a key bin that are retained by the inner barrel when in the locked state, and the barrel can be rotated to either release the shackle or to release the key bin that typically holds a building's key.

Abstract: Examples are disclosed that relate to representing recorded hand motion. One example provides a computing device comprising instructions executable by a logic subsystem to receive video data capturing hand motion relative to an object, determine a first pose of the object, and associate a first coordinate system with the object based on the first pose. The instructions are further executable to determine a representation of the hand motion in the first coordinate system, the representation having a time-varying pose relative to the first pose of the object, and configure the representation for display relative to a second instance of the object having a second pose in a second coordinate system, with a time-varying pose relative to the second pose that is spatially consistent with the time-varying pose relative to the first pose.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system for performing an experiment strategy for member-based ramping. During operation, the system divides members of an online system into a control group and a treatment group. Next, the system configures delivery of content to the control group over a first set of channels that charge for actions related to the content and delivery of the content to the treatment group over a second set of channels that charge for the actions related to the content, wherein the second set of channels is smaller than the first set of channels. The system then performs a first experiment that selects an adjustment factor for content delivered over the second set of channels to the treatment group to achieve revenue neutrality and/or engagement neutrality between the treatment and control groups.

Abstract: A backhaul radio is disclosed that operates in multipath propagation environments such as obstructed LOS conditions with uncoordinated interference sources in the same operating band. Such a backhaul radio may use an advanced ARQ protocol, which uses an ACK_MAP, constructed by a combination of implicit and explicit signaling, and performs a combination of proactive and reactive retransmissions.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system for processing data. During operation, the system stores a conversation containing a series of messages exchanged among a number of participants in a first document containing metadata for the conversation; a second document containing message content for the series of messages, wherein the message content includes a fixed position gap between starting or ending positions in consecutive messages in the series of messages; and one or more additional documents storing message metadata for individual messages in the conversation. Next, the system processes a first search across the series of messages in the conversation using an index of the set of documents. The system also processes, using the index, a second search within individual messages in the series of messages as a span query with a distance that is shorter than the fixed position gap.

Abstract: In aspects of a cable stacker, the cable stacker includes a base for placement against a framing stud, and has dividers that extend perpendicular from the base. The dividers form cable slots between the dividers, and the cable slots accommodate cables that are guided in place between the dividers through open ends of the cable slots. The cable stacker can include cable separators that extend perpendicular from the dividers into the cable slots to separate the cables that are guided in place between the dividers. The cable stacker can also include cable retention tabs integrated with the dividers, where the cable retention tabs cover at least a portion of the open ends of the cable slots and retain the cables in the cable slots.

Abstract: A cycloidal reluctance machine includes a stator surrounding a rotor. Stator windings and rotor windings form respective concentric rotor and stator electromagnets. The rotor is eccentrically positioned with respect to the stator to move with two degrees of freedom (2DOF), including rotating motion about a rotary axis of the rotor and orbiting motion about a center axis of the stator. A rotor constraint mechanism (RCM) constrains motion of the rotor, such that the rotor is able to generate and transmit output torque to a coupled load in at least one of the 2DOF. A magnetic field polarity of stator poles and/or rotor poles of the respective stator and rotor changes over one electrical cycle of the polyphase voltage. The coupled load may be a drive axle of a vehicle in some embodiments. In others, the stator and rotor windings are driven via different power inverters.

The server computing device may further include a processor configured to receive a natural language input and generate a tokenized utterance based on the natural language input. Based on the tokenized utterance, the processor may select a predefined intention indicating a target ontology entity type of the natural language input. The processor may identify at least one input ontology entity token included in the tokenized utterance and may identify at least one relation between the predefined intention and the input ontology entity token. Based on the predefined intention, the at least one input ontology entity token, and the relation, the processor may generate a structured query. Based on the structured query and the knowledge graph, the processor may output an output ontology entity token having the target ontology entity type.
