Abstract: Techniques to verify a participant's visit to a specific location are described. An embodiment may provide a system that generates a pattern that is unique to the location, and that may further be unique to a date or time, a transaction, or other criteria. Participants may capture the pattern, for example, using a mobile device, and transmit the pattern to a verification system. The verification system may decode, translate, decrypt or otherwise obtain information from the pattern. The information obtained from the pattern may be used to verify that the pattern came from the location. The participant may then receive credit for the visit. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract: A method for predicting power capability of a battery pack in a system includes determining an open-circuit voltage of the battery pack via a controller, calculating pack resistance using measured voltage and current during a charge or discharge event, and calculating a maximum current of the pack using the open-circuit voltage and internal resistance. The method includes selecting the lower of an absolute value of each of the calculated maximum discharge current and predetermined current limit, calculating the discharge power capability of the battery pack using the selected lower absolute value, and controlling a state of the system using the calculated power capability. The method also controls the charging current and parameters during a DC fast-charging operation. A system includes the battery pack, electric machine, and controller. The system may be a vehicle having an electric powertrain, with an electric machine powered by the battery pack.
Abstract: A system for supporting a motor of a boat with respect to a boat trailer is provided. The system includes a longitudinally extendable support shaft that is configured to be secured in a selected one of a plurality of extended positions, a motor support disposed at a first end of the support shaft; and a boat trailer connector disposed at a second end of the support shaft. The trailer connector includes a releasable latch to connect the trailer connector to the boat trailer. The trailer connector includes a manually enagageable actuator configured to selectively latch or release the trailer connector from the boat trailer.
Abstract: A distortion calibration system generates a distortion map for a head-mounted display (HMD). The system includes a camera that takes pictures of a test pattern displayed by the HMD. The images are taken at different camera positions and/or states of the HMD. The system determines a distortion map using the captured images, and uploads it to the HMD as part of, e.g., an optical model. The HMD comprises an electronic display, an eye tracking unit, an optics block, and a module. The module estimates distortion values based on eye tracking information from the eye tracking unit, an optical model, and a state of the HMD (e., a distance between the optics block and the electronic display). The module determines an adjusted state of the HMD using the estimated distortion values, the eye tracking information, and the optical model, and adjusts the state of the HMD to the adjusted state.
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment pertains to a method of operating an electronic lockset during a plurality of iterations of a recurring period of time, wherein the electronic lockset includes a first electronic component. The method generally includes generating a usage score for the electronic component based on usage of the electronic lockset during the first iteration of the recurring period of time, selecting a schedule for the electronic component based on the first usage score, and during a second iteration of the recurring period of time occurring after the first iteration of the recurring period of time, operating the electronic component operating according to the selected schedule.

Abstract: An exemplary battery assembly includes an enclosure having a first portion interfacing with a separate, second portion along an interface. A seal is at the interface, and a shear cord is configured to rupture the seal when moved from a first position to a second position. An exemplary battery accessing method includes moving a shear cord from a first to a second position to rupture a seal. The seal is at an interface between a first and a second portion of an enclosure.

Abstract: A latch mechanism for releasably securing a hinged gate to one or more latches. The latch mechanism includes a handle that is pivotally connected to a gate wall. The handle includes at least one retention arm that lockingly engages a latch when the hinged gate is in a latched position. According to certain embodiments, the handle includes a retention arm at both ends of the handle, with the handle extending generally along the length of the gate wall. Further, the handle may be pivotally displaced about the retention arm(s) so that the handle is displaced from the first position to a second position. As the handle is pivotally displaced to the second position, a release mechanism of the handle may engage and pivotally displace the adjacent latch so that the retention arm may be released from the locking engagement with the latch.
Abstract: A self-reconfiguring wagering system is disclosed. The system comprises an interactive controller that communicates with a process controller, determines a skill outcome for two or more skill objectives presented to a user, and communicates to the process controller the skill outcome. A chance-based controller of the system hu communicates with the process controller, generates an ordered set of chance components having one or more chance outcomes using a random number generator and a paytable, and communicates the ordered set of chance components to the process controller. The process controller receives the ordered set of chance components, reorders the ordered set of chance components on the basis of a testing skill outcome and an actual use skill outcome, receives the skill outcome from the interactive controller, and updates one or more credit meters using the skill outcome and the ordered set of chance components.

Abstract: An email request is received from a client device, where the email request is intended for an email server and includes a request for an email recipient's certificate. The compliance status of the client device is obtained. If the client device is in compliance, the email request is modified, and the modified email request is sent to the email server while a certificate retrieval request in the email request is redirected to a certificate repository implemented in a server separate from a certificate repository maintained by the email server. The email certificate is retrieved from the certificate repository and combined with information received from the email server to generate a response, which is sent to the client device.
