Abstract: A system and methods for managing a transformer area in an electrical distribution grid having at least one substation transformer and one service transformer are presented. At least one Remote Hub governed by a policy may be provided, which collects data about the transformer area. The Remote Hub may also execute a discovery procedure to inventory Remotes in the transformer area. The Remote Hub may use the collected data to detect events, such as exceptional conditions, configuration changes, or derived results, within the transformer area. Based on the collected data, the Remote Hub is able to transmit data about the transformer area via a Substation-to-Edge channel. A method and system for forming and establishing boundaries of Transformer Area Networks is also presented. Discovery procedures may be used to form Transformer Area Networks out of Remote Hubs and Remotes powered by the same phase of the service transformer.

Abstract: A system and method for networked geofencing includes identifying restricted areas in a service region, and defining a protective zone surrounding the restricted areas. A service availability map containing the protective zones is generated and broadcast within the service region. The positions of terminals on the service availability map are detected relative to the protective zones. Terminals inside the protective zones establish communication using a first frequency range, and terminals outside of the protective zones establish communication using either the first frequency range or a second frequency range.
Abstract: A nursing garment computing system includes a nursing garment having a pair of breast cups with an electronic sensor to indicate the status of a breast in the pair of breast cups and a computing device to record the sensor data indicative of whether the breast cup is open or closed. The data can be electronically sent to an external device such as a cell phone or personal digital assistant to keep track of which breast cup has been opened for breastfeeding event, time between breastfeeding event, amount of time for breastfeeding from each side of the breast, a record of which side was nursed last, and a record of which side was nursed first during the last breastfeeding event.
Abstract: A varifocal block includes liquid crystal (LC) lens and a liquid lens structure in optical series. The LC lens has a plurality of optical states, including an additive state that adds optical power to the LC lens and a subtractive state that removes optical power from the LC lens. The liquid lens structure comprises a transparent substrate layer, a deformable membrane, and a volume of liquid enclosed between the transparent substrate layer and the deformable membrane. The deformable membrane has an adjustable range of optical power dependent on an adjustable curvature of the deformable membrane. The plurality of optical states of the LC lens and the adjustable range of optical power of the liquid lens structure together provide a continuous range of optical power for the varifocal block.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that operates a computer system. During operation, the system detects a first change in a setting associated with a first computing environment executing on the computer system, wherein the first change is associated with at least one of an input/output (I/O) device setting, a regional setting, a network setting, a power setting, and a display setting. Next, the system propagates the first change to one or more other computing environments executing on the computer system.

Abstract: Computing systems, devices, and associated methods of managing secure communication using hardware accelerators are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a data request from a user kernel requesting to read a message stored in a buffer. In response to receiving the data request, transmitting to a processor, data representing a request to validate content in the message. The method also includes receiving from the processor, data representing a validation result containing an indication whether the content in the message is valid and a header size of the message. When the indication indicates that the content of the message is valid, a header of the message is removed from the message according to the header size in the validation result to extract the payload and providing the extracted payload to the user kernel.
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media are provided for analyzing a cluster of communications, such as B2C emails, to generate a template for the cluster that defines transient segments and fixed segments of the cluster of communications. More particularly, methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media are provided for generating and/or applying a trained structured machine learning model for a generated template that can be used to determine, for one or more transient segments of subsequent communications, a corresponding probability that a given semantic label is the correct semantic label for extracted content of the transient segment(s).

Abstract: Provided are methods and devices for providing a resource. In one example, a method includes receiving a request to render a resource, the request comprising item information associated with an item, extracting an item identifier from the item information, and determining, by the web server, whether the user device corresponds to an existing user of a mobile application corresponding to the request. In response to determining the user device corresponds to an existing user of the mobile application, the method may include determining a customized URI associated with the item and associated with the mobile application based on the extracted item identifier and transmitting the customized URI. In response to determining the user device does not correspond to an existing user of the mobile application, the method may include transmitting a URL of a web page associated with the mobile application to the user device.

Abstract: A method for Near Field Communication (NFC) based interactions can be implemented by a device when it is placed near an NFC tag and receives an electromagnetic signal associated with the NFC tag. The device retrieves the identifier of the NFC tag from the electromagnetic signal and, based on the identifier, the device can generate a first command. Furthermore, the device can identify a qualifying event, such as a predetermined orientation of the device. The device then generates a second command in response to the identification of the qualifying event. Each of the first and second command can cause a change in settings of the device, switching an operating mode of the device, activating/deactivating an application, enabling/disabling a feature of an application, and sending an instruction to a remote electronic device.
Abstract: In some embodiments, methods and systems of enabling consumers to purchase substitute products when the products ordered by the consumers are out of stock include processing an internet order for a product received from a consumer in a geographic location and in response to receiving an electronic notification indicating that the product ordered by the consumer is out of stock at a retail sales facility associated with the geographic location of the consumer, generating an electronic message including an indication that the product ordered by the consumer is out of stock at the retail sales facility, and including a selection option of at least one substitute product for the product ordered by the consumer. The methods and system further include transmitting the electronic message from the electronic inventory management device at the retail sales facility to an electronic computing device of the consumer.
