Abstract: A transmission capable of being assembled as a coolerless transmission and a transmission having an oil cooler includes a housing and a lubrication system. The oil passage system includes an oil passage having an oil outlet opening extending out of the housing and an oil inlet opening extending into the housing. A bypass flow passage is disposed in the housing in communication with the oil outlet opening and the oil inlet opening. In a coolerless configuration a pair of plugs are inserted in the oil outlet opening and the oil inlet opening, respectively, to close off the oil outlet opening and the oil inlet opening so that oil flows from the oil outlet opening to the oil inlet opening through the bypass flow passage. In a transmission configuration having an oil cooler, an exterior oil cooler is connected to the oil outlet opening and the oil inlet opening.
Abstract: A method may include receiving, by a base station from a wireless device via a cell, one or more random access preambles from transmit beams of the wireless device. The method may include transmitting at least one random access response identified by a cell radio identifier of the wireless device. The at least one random access response may include a first preamble identifier corresponding to a first random access preamble of the one or more random access preambles. The first random access preamble may be transmitted by a first transmit beam of the transmit beams. The method may include receiving, from the wireless device, data using the first transmit beam.
Abstract: Sensing systems include a tube defining a Fabry-Perot cavity and an optical fiber including a distal end disposed within the Fabry-Perot cavity and a proximal end. A corrodible material caps the Fabry-Perot cavity. Devices for sensing corrosion of downhole equipment include an optical fiber with a corrodible material disposed over a distal end of the optical fiber. Systems for sensing a condition in equipment include an optical fiber with a fiber Bragg grating proximate a distal end thereof and a mass of sensor material coupled to the distal end of the optical fiber. The mass of sensor material is suspended from above the fiber Bragg grating. Other systems for sensing a condition in a wellbore include an optical fiber and a plurality of fiber Bragg gratings along a length thereof. A plurality of sensor materials are coupled to the optical fiber and surround respective fiber Bragg gratings.
Abstract: A smart ring charging system comprises a charging source integrated into an object, the object configured to be held by a user wearing a smart ring. The smart ring may include a ring-shaped housing and a power source disposed within or at the ring-shaped housing and configured to receive energy from the charging source while the user is wearing the smart ring and holding the object. A controller may be disposed within or at the ring-shaped housing, or at the object with the charger and configured to estimate a charging rate at which the power source receives the energy from the charging source. The system may further include one or more indicators configured to indicate the charging rate.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a novel method of performing health monitoring for resources associated with a global server load balancing (GSLB) system. This system is implemented by several domain name system (DNS) servers that perform DNS services for resources located at several geographically separate sites. The method identifies several different groupings of the resources. It then assigns the health monitoring of the different resource groups to different DNS servers. The method then configures each particular DNS server (1) to send health monitoring messages to the particular group of resources assigned to the particular DNS server, (2) to generate data by analyzing responses to the sent health monitoring messages, and (3) to distribute the generated data to the other DNS servers. The method in some embodiments is performed by a set of one or more controllers.
Abstract: A system including a work string and an acoustic device for sensing or transmitting an acoustic signal at least partially traveling through a borehole fluid within a wellbore and a method of operation. The acoustic device includes a compensation fluid, an acoustic transducer at least partially disposed in the compensation fluid and configured to sense the acoustic signal, and a metallic cover that separates the compensation fluid from the borehole fluid and configured to deform in response to a pressure difference between the borehole fluid and the compensation fluid. The acoustic device is conveyed into the wellbore and an electric signal is sent or received with the processor to or from the acoustic transducer.
Abstract: Described herein is a system for 3D proton imaging encompassing both proton radiography (pRad) and proton CT (pCT). The disclosed system can reduce range uncertainties, while providing a fast and efficient check of patient set up and integrated range along a beam's eye view just before treatment. The disclosed system provides a complete solution to the range inaccuracy problem in proton therapy, substantially reducing the uncertainties of treatment planning by directly measuring relative stopping power without being affected by image artifacts and with much lower dose to the patient than comparable x-ray images. Also described herein is a proton imaging algorithm for prompt iterative 3D pCT image reconstruction, where each iteration is fast and efficient, and the number of iterations is minimized. The method offers a unique solution that optimally fits different protons and does not depend on the starting point for the first iteration.
