In one example aspect, an optical encoder includes a polarization rotator configured to receive a train of optical pulses, and an electro-optic (EO) modulator coupled to an output of the polarization rotator. The EO modulator is configured to receive a radio frequency (RF) signal and to produce a phase modulated signal in accordance with the RF signal. The optical encoder also includes a polarizing beam splitter coupled to the output of the EO modulator; and an optical hybrid configured to receive two optical signals from the polarizing beam splitter and to produce four optical outputs that are each phase shifted with respect to one another.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system enabling micro-adjustments in headlamps having upper and lower modules. A link exists between the upper and lower modules, the length of the link is made to be adjustable. The lower module is located on a pivot so that adjustments made to the length of the link result in a desired lighting pattern.
Abstract: A system and strategy for reducing rapid steering wheel movement at the end of an autopark maneuver. The strategy includes maintaining or ramping-out power-steering motor torque to reduce steering wheel movement that may occur due to tire windup that has occurred up to that point in the autopark maneuver. The strategy may include the stopping of an autopark maneuver at any time during the maneuver, or functioning at the end of an autopark maneuver. The autopark event may be a park-out maneuver.

Abstract: Described is a method of providing an estimate of radiation dose received by a patient during an imaging scan performed by an imaging system. The method includes receiving patient information about the patient, receiving scan data generated during the imaging scan of the patient by the imaging system, creating a virtual dose model of the patient based upon the patient information and the scan data, receiving a selection of a region of interest of the patient, performing a dose simulation on the virtual dose model of the patient or a portion thereof, and determining, based upon an outcome of the dose simulation, an estimate of the radiation dose received within the region of interest. The imaging scan can be a partial imaging scan of a portion of the patient. Also provided is a system and software for carrying out this method.

Abstract: A technique for generating and presenting context-aware recommendations to assist a patient in managing a chronic health condition. A health management platform provides various services that are accessible to a patient via a graphical user interface (GUI). Input data are received from various services and processed to generate contextual data associated with the patient such as a health state of the patient. Using the contextual data, a recommendation to access a particular service is generated and presented to the patient via the GUI. For example, in response to determining a health state of a patient, a recommendation to access a service to improve the health state of the patient can be automatically presented via the GUI to encourage the patient to access the service.

Abstract: Example embodiments described herein involve a system for testing a light-emitting module. The light-emitting module may include a mounting platform configured to hold a light-emitting module for a camera. The mounting platform may also be configured to rotate. The system may further include a housing holding a plurality of photodiodes arranged in an array over at least a 90 degree arc of a hemisphere. The system may also include a controller configured to control the photodiodes and the rotation of the mounting platform.
Abstract: A single asynchronous enumerable object is generated that contains the data and methods needed to iterate through an enumerable asynchronously. The asynchronous enumerable object contains the code for traversing the enumerable one step at a time and the operations needed to suspend an iteration to await completion of an asynchronous operation and to resume the iteration upon completion of the asynchronous operation. The allocation of a single object to perform all of these tasks reduces the memory consumption needed to execute an asynchronous enumeration.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for assigning and associating resources in a cloud computing environment. Virtual machines in the cloud computing environment can be assigned or associated with pools corresponding to users as dedicated, standby, or preemptible machines. The various states provide users with the ability to reserve a desired level of resources while also allowing the operator of the cloud computing environment to increase resource utilization.

Abstract: Techniques for aligning images generated by an integrated camera physically mounted to an HMD with images generated by a detached camera physically unmounted from the HMD are disclosed. A 3D feature map is generated and shared with the detached camera. Both the integrated camera and the detached camera use the 3D feature map to relocalize themselves and to determine their respective 6 DOF poses. The HMD receives the detached camera's image of the environment and the 6 DOF pose of the detached camera. A depth map of the environment is accessed. An overlaid image is generated by reprojecting a perspective of the detached camera's image to align with a perspective of the integrated camera and by overlaying the reprojected detached camera's image onto the integrated camera's image.

Abstract: A device for detecting and alleviating flooding and blocked storm sewers includes a manhole cover coupled to a float body. The device also includes a canister having a drain hole and a valve. The device also includes multiple guides that can catch onto part of a sewer. The device is configured such that when water flows into the canister, the manhole cover, float body, and guides rise and the valve is opened.
Abstract: A method and communication system has been developed to increase the number of messages sent over a bandwidth limited channel and/or under noisy conditions by using a variable message length encoding and decoding scheme. With this technique, the messages having a higher probability of being sent are shorter as compared to the messages that are less likely to be sent under the current conditions. With this technique, a higher number of transactions per unit of time can be communicated and/or executed over a given bandwidth limited channel. When the transmitted message is received, the receiver does not know the message length, but the receiver deduces the length by using information from various error detection and correction techniques, such as forward error correction (FEC) and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) techniques.
Abstract: Various embodiments illustrated herein disclose an axle lock assembly comprising a first plate with a first aperture, a second plate with a second aperture, a shaft, wherein the shaft is inserted through the first aperture and the second aperture and a bush. When the bushing is in contact with the first plate and the second plate, the bush creates a lateral force to move the first plate and the second plate in opposite directions to secure the shaft.
