Abstract: A non-local spin valve (NLSV) sensor includes a bearing surface and a detector located proximate to the bearing surface. The NLSV sensor also includes a channel layer located behind the detector relative to the bearing surface, and in a substantially same plane as the detector. The channel layer has a front end that is proximate to the detector and a rear end that is distal to the detector. The NLSV sensor further includes first and second spin injectors, with the first spin injector located proximate to the rear end of the channel layer and positioned above the channel layer, and the second spin injector located proximate the rear end of the channel layer and positioned below the channel layer.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to determine automated gain control parameters for an automated gain control protocol are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a first tuner to amplify an audio signal. Disclosed example apparatus also include a second tuner to amplify the audio signal. Disclosed example apparatus also include a first controller to tune the first tuner to apply a first gain representative of a first range of gains to the audio signal to determine a first amplified audio signal and tune the second tuner to apply a second gain representative a second range of gains to the audio signal to determine a second amplified audio signal, the second range of gains lower than the first range of gains. Disclosed example apparatus also include a second controller to select the first range of gains to be utilized in an automated gain control protocol when the first gain results in clipping of the first amplified audio signal and the second gain does not result in clipping of the second amplified audio signal.

Abstract: A method of removing organic carbon and other contaminants from a water stream. The method comprises screening large solids from the stream. Pre-oxidation chemicals may then be added. A coagulant is fed into the stream. An activated carbon, preferably formed from lignite, is added by pumping a highly concentrated activated carbon slurry into the stream. The stream, including the activated carbon and coagulant, next flows into a clarifier, where the coagulant will flocculate and enmesh the activated carbon. The activated carbon adsorbs organic carbon and other contaminants, including bacteria, pharmacological agents, and hydrocarbons, as the stream flows through the clarifier. Eventually, the flocculate will agglomerate and settle out in the clarifier, where it, the enmeshed carbon, and the contaminants they contain may be removed. The stream's organic carbon content exiting the clarifier will be much reduced. Accordingly, less primary oxidizing agent will be needed to treat any remaining organic carbon.

Abstract: Mining machines such as continuous miners and chain haulage units may include chain conveyors that are capable of deflecting laterally in order to travel through lateral turns. The chain conveyors may include flight members for pushing or urging material along a pan. The chain may be driven by one or more sprockets. In one independent aspect, a link for a chain conveyor includes a body including a first end a second end opposite the first end, a first opening proximate the first end and extending in a direction transverse to a direction of travel of the link, a second opening proximate the second end and extending in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the link, and a relief opening extending through the link body and positioned between the first end and the second end.

Abstract: Techniques for discovering a network using a sensor installed in the network, where the network is communicatively coupled to an external network by a router, are presented. The techniques can include: determining, automatically and by the sensor, a network address of the router; detecting, automatically and by the sensor, a network address of a client in the network; assessing, automatically and by the sensor, that the client in the network is actively communicating on the network; communicating, by the sensor, with the network address of the router; and participating, by the sensor, in communications on the network by emulating the network address of the client and by using the network address of the router.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for automated autonomous vehicle pose validation. An embodiment operates by generating a range image from a point cloud solution comprising a pose estimate for an autonomous vehicle. The embodiment queries the range image for predicted ranges and predicted class labels corresponding to lidar beams projected into the range image. The embodiment generates a vector of features from the range image. The embodiment compares a plurality of values to the vector of features using a binary classifier. The embodiment validates the autonomous vehicle pose based on the comparison of the plurality of values to the vector of features using the binary classifier.

Abstract: Systems and methods provides for dialog management in real-time rather than turn taking. An example method included generating first candidate responses to triggering event. The triggering event may be receipt of a live stream chunk for the dialog or receipt of a backend response to a previous backend request for a dialog schema. The method also includes updating a list of candidate responses that are accepted or pending with at least on of the first candidate responses, and determining, for the triggering event, whether the list of candidate responses includes a candidate response that has a confidence score that meets a triggering threshold. The method also includes waiting for a next triggering event without providing a candidate response when the list does not include a candidate response that has a confidence score that meets the triggering threshold.

Abstract: A request to send a file is received. A file type for the file is identified. For example, the file type may a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) file or a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. In response to receiving the request to send the file and identifying the file type for the file, a format of the file is reordered. Reordering the format of the file is based on an application and/or an application type that will be receiving the file. For example, the application may be an Adobe Acrobat® reader that is receiving a PDF file that has been reordered for more efficient reading.
