Abstract: Systems and methods for a vehicle to use a fallback control system orthogonal to a primary control system are provided. A method includes collecting, by a fallback control system of a vehicle, sensor data generated by one or more sensors of the vehicle; determining, by the fallback control system using a first process different from a second process of a primary control system of the vehicle, an alternative action for the vehicle based on the sensor data; and sending, by the fallback control system based on the alternative action, an instruction for modifying an action associated with the primary control system upon a faulty condition associated with the primary control system.

Abstract: A manual drive assembly for a manually-operated window treatment based on a drive chain formed as a loop, may incorporate one or more intermediate tensioners disposed between two ends of the loop. The loop may be formed between a manual clutch mechanism coupled to the window treatment and an end tensioner. The one or more intermediate tensioners may serve to limit slack in the loop such that sides of the loop cannot be pulled to create a large loop, for example, having a gap of four inches or greater, between the hanging sides of the cord.

Abstract: Techniques and solutions are described for executing a video processing task. A video processing task is received that includes one or more operations to be performed on a digital video file and an identifier of the digital video file. The video processing task is divided into subtasks of operations to be performed on fragments of the video, such as fragments having a particular duration. The duration can correspond to a duration used for video streaming Compared with video processing that is performed as a single task, disclosed techniques can provide improved fault tolerance, as only failed tasks need to be reprocessed. Video processing subtasks can be distributed to a plurality of workers, which can further improve fault tolerance, and can increase the computing power available for video processing, including allowing for the use of heterogenous or unreliable workers.

Abstract: A touch sensor system includes touch sensors, drive-sense circuits (DSCs), memory, and a processing module. A DSC drives a first signal via a single line coupling to a touch sensor and simultaneously senses, when present, a second signal that is uniquely associated with a user. The DSC processes the first signal and/or the second signal to generate a digital signal that is representative of an electrical characteristic of the touch sensor. The processing module executes operational instructions (stored in the memory) to process the digital signal to detect interaction of the user with the touch sensor and to determine whether the interaction of the user with the touch sensor compares favorably with authorization. When not authorized, the processing module aborts execution of operation(s) associated with the interaction of the user with the touch sensor. Alternatively, when authorized, the processing module facilitates execution of the operation(s).

Abstract: A redox flow battery includes positive and negative electrodes respectfully located in half-cells separated by a porous silicon wafer separator formed by MEMS Technology. The first half cell and the second half cell each preferably include a plurality of dividers or barriers configured to create flow channels which introduce turbulence ensuring the electrolytes are changing or mixing at surfaces of the electrodes and the membrane. Also disclosed is a solar energy generation and storage system which includes a photovoltaic cell and an electrochemical energy storage battery which share a common electrode. Also disclosed is a membrane-less redox flow electrical energy storage battery, having a cathode electrode, an anode electrode formed of a porous silicon substrate in which surfaces of the pores of the porous silicon substrate are coated at least in part with a metal silicide, and an electrolyte.

Abstract: A motor vehicle seating assembly includes a conventional common seat back frame, a plurality of forward soft trim carrier assemblies each having a unique configuration, a plurality of corresponding seat back panel and closeout assemblies, and an adapter carrier coupled with the common seat back frame and disposed between the forward soft trim carrier assembly and the corresponding seat back panel and closeout assembly. The adapter carrier includes a composite upper portion and a pair of depending frame attachment brackets coupled with a lower inboard and outboard lateral side of the composite upper portion of the adapter carrier. The pair of depending frame attachment brackets are coupled with a pair of opposed lateral side rails of the common seat back frame. The adapter carrier has a unique configuration corresponding with one of the plurality of forward soft trim carrier assemblies and the seat back panel and closeout assemblies.

Abstract: An aquaculture tank system includes: an aquaculture tank configured for holding a liquid and at least one first animal therein; and a cover coupled with the aquaculture tank for covering the liquid, the cover including a sheet-like central portion with a plurality of openings, at least some of the openings being sized and configured for providing a dual functionality of: (a) allowing an animal feed to pass therethrough in order to feed the at least one first animal in the aquaculture tank; and (b) preventing at least one second animal located exterior to the aquaculture tank from removing the at least one first animal from the aquaculture tank.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for controlling thermal conditioning of a battery system associated with brakes of a vehicle towing a trailer. In one embodiment, a method includes: determining, by a processor, that a temperature of the battery system is outside of a defined temperature range; determining, by the processor, a delta value between a brake request and a battery charge limit; generating, by the processor, a control signal to at least one of a heater and a compressor of the vehicle based on the delta value; generating, by the processor, a control signal to the battery system to initiate regeneration braking; and generating, by the processor, a braking reduction request to reduce braking by the trailer.

Abstract: Object detection for ranging sensor data may detect objects which are not actually present in the environment. To identify certain of these phantom objects, objects detected in the environment are analyzed to determine whether they are enclosed by another object and if the enclosed object has a distance from the ranging sensor higher than the enclosing object. This may suggest that the enclosing object has a surface or other feature that is sensed as additional depth that manifests as a separate detectable object. These phantom objects are identified and removed from further perception processing.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for performing speech recognition. In some implementations, acoustic data representing an utterance is obtained. The acoustic data corresponds to time steps in a series of time steps. One or more computers process scores indicative of the acoustic data using a recurrent neural network to generate a sequence of outputs. The sequence of outputs indicates a likely output label from among a predetermined set of output labels. The predetermined set of output labels includes output labels that respectively correspond to different linguistic units and to a placeholder label that does not represent a classification of acoustic data. The recurrent neural network is configured to use an output label indicated for a previous time step to determine an output label for the current time step. The generated sequence of outputs is processed to generate a transcription of the utterance, and the transcription of the utterance is provided.

Abstract: A moveable component assembly includes a seat assembly, a track system, and a locking mechanism that secures the seat assembly in position. Abstract: A sterilization system for an aerosol-generating device includes a charging station and a sterilization device. The charging station is configured to receive the aerosol-generating device. The sterilization device includes at least one UV diode. The at least one UV diode is configured to sanitize an exterior of the aerosol-generating device when the at least one UV diode is actuated.

Abstract: A seat assembly includes a seatback having an interior portion with a seatback frame disposed therein. A retraction mechanism includes a first bracket operably coupled to the seatback frame. A second bracket is operably coupled to the first bracket by an actuator that is operable between at-rest and actuated positions. A tether member includes a body portion that is operably coupled between the first and second brackets of the retraction mechanism for movement therewith. The tether member moves from a deployed position to a retracted position when the actuator moves from the at-rest position to the actuated position. A belt member is operably coupled to the tether member. The belt member is operable between a deployed position, wherein the belt member is disposed in front of the back support portion of the seatback, and a stowed position, wherein the belt member is received in the interior portion of the seatback.

Abstract: A vehicle seat having a seat part, a backrest, a kinematics mechanism for transferring the vehicle seat from a use position to a not-in-use position, and back again, and a locking device to lock the kinematics mechanism in the use position. When the locking device is unlocked, the vehicle seat is transferred out of the use position into an access position and the kinematics mechanism is coupled to a drive device by a coupling device. The coupling device has an unlocking swing arm for at least indirectly unlocking the locking device. When in the use position of the vehicle seat, activation of the drive device first unlocks the swing arm to pivot, so that the locking device is unlocked, and it is only following the pivoting movement of the unlocking swing arm that the kinematics mechanism is driven by the drive device to transfer the vehicle seat into the not-in-use position.

Abstract: Systems and methods for real time routing of vehicles. In particular, systems and methods are provided for real time routing of vehicles based on encounters with vulnerable road users. Vehicle perception and communication systems can provide live feedback of vulnerable road user locations. Various vulnerable road user behaviors can be identified by vehicle perception systems and flagged for avoidance in a central mapping system. The feedback can be used to route other fleet vehicles around the vulnerable road users.
