Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for cross input modality learning in a mobile device are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes activating a first modality user input mode in which user inputs by way of a first modality are recognized using a first modality recognizer; and receiving a user input by way of the first modality. The method includes, obtaining, as a result of the first modality recognizer recognizing the user input, a transcription that includes a particular term; and generating an input context data structure that references at least the particular term. The method further includes, transmitting, by the first modality recognizer, the input context data structure to a second modality recognizer for use in updating a second modality recognition model associated with the second modality recognizer.

Abstract: An authentication and payment system for paying a supplier via a network may include a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having program logic stored thereon having a code for an authentication and payment application executable by a processor of a computing device. The code may be programmed to perform a step of receiving a first set of specific data elements from a payer regarding an authorized purchase by the payer from the supplier. The code may be further programmed to receive a second set of specific data elements from the supplier. If the first set of specific data elements matches at least a portion of second set of specific data elements, the code may be programmed to generate and send a single-use number to the supplier. The single-use number may be usable as a credit card number for only one purchase.

Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) metal object manufacturing apparatus is equipped with an orifice cleaning system that removes metal drops that have adhered to a plate, an orifice in the plate, and a nozzle ejecting melted metal drops through the orifice during object forming operations. The orifice cleaning system includes an orifice cleaning tool that consists essentially of a soft carbon material, such as graphite. The orifice cleaning tool is configured with a handle that is gripped by an articulated arm to move the orifice cleaning tool against the plate, the orifice, and a portion of the nozzle at the orifice.

Abstract: Methods and systems for welding contacts of a plurality of battery cells are provided. A method includes using a detector to perform a scan of the cell electrode contact area for each of the plurality of battery cells. Abstract: A method of processing an emergency incident reported to a PSAP by a plurality of callers can include checking, at the PSAP, if video calls have been received from the same specified location within a predetermined time period, and if it is determined that there are such further video calls, feeding at least a part of the video call and the further video calls to a ML classifier unit. The ML Classifier unit can identify if there are similarities between the video call and the further video calls. If there exists similarity between the video call and at least one further video call, a determination about which one of the video calls t uses less resources (e.g. less bandwidth). That video call can then be utilized and other similar calls can be adjusted to reduce the bandwidth further (e.g. converted to audio calls, etc.).
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a fiber encapsulation mechanism for energy dissipation in a fiber amplifying system. One example embodiment includes an optical fiber amplifier. The optical fiber amplifier includes an optical fiber that includes a gain medium, as well as a polymer layer that at least partially surrounds the optical fiber. The polymer layer is optically transparent. In addition, the optical fiber amplifier includes a pump source. Optical pumping by the pump source amplifies optical signals in the optical fiber and generates excess heat and excess photons. The optical fiber amplifier additionally includes a heatsink layer disposed adjacent to the polymer layer. The heatsink layer conducts the excess heat away from the optical fiber. Further, the optical fiber amplifier includes an optically transparent layer disposed adjacent to the polymer layer. The optically transparent layer transmits the excess photons away from the optical fiber.

Abstract: A replicated block storage service provides durable and high performance network-attached storage replicated in two or more zones of a single region, and remains available despite a single zone failure. A probe file is generated to determine a health state of a replicated disk. When a disk is degraded, a lease is created indicating which replica is trusted and providing visibility to backend jobs to facilitate reconciliation of data between the first replica and the second replica. Moreover, degraded file markers are generated for use by the backend jobs in quickly identifying the data to be copied.

Abstract: Resin dissolved or suspended in liquid is applied to a greige fabric formed with finer denier yarns forming surface loops before the fabric is bulked and after the liquid has been removed by low-temperature drying. The dried fabric is then bulked at a higher temperature setting the resin, resulting in superior loop tip resilience, and superior surface durability. Bulking and simultaneous resin setting optionally includes shrinking in area by 10-20%. Print appearance retention is also superior when printing follows bulking and setting of the resin.
