Abstract: Presented are crankshaft assemblies with internal stiffening structures, methods for making/using such crankshaft assemblies, and internal combustion engines equipped with such crankshaft assemblies. A crankshaft body, which is formed with a first material, includes multiple bearing journals that are mutually coaxial to rotate on a crankshaft axis and spaced from each other along the length of the crankshaft. Each bearing journal has an internal journal cavity. Multiple crankpins are longitudinally spaced from each and axially offset from the crankshaft's rotational axis. Each crankpin has an internal crankpin cavity. Multiple crank webs project radially from the crankshaft axis and interconnect the bearing journals with the crankpins. Each crank web has an internal web cavity. Disposed within the journal cavities, crankpin cavities, and/or web cavities is a stiffening bar formed with a second material having a modulus of elasticity that is greater than the modulus of elasticity of the first material.

Abstract: Logic may detect a malfunctioning payment interface on a customer's payment instrument. Logic may receive transaction data about at least one transaction performed via a payment instrument associated with a customer. The transaction data may indicate a payment interface of the payment instrument through which the customer conducted the at least one transaction and the payment instrument may comprise one or more payment interfaces. Logic may determine, by a model, based on the transaction data, a probability of a malfunction by at least one interface of the one or more payment interfaces. The model may be trained based on a pattern of transactions associated with malfunctioning payment instruments. Logic may compare the probability of the transaction against a threshold. And logic may determine whether to contact a customer associated with the payment instrument, based comparison of the probability of the transaction against the threshold.

Abstract: An HVAC duct ozone generator includes at least two ozone generation plate stacks, where each plate stack includes at least two independently electrically addressable plate groupings, where a primary plate grouping includes fewer ozone generation plates than a secondary plate grouping. Thus, the generator includes at least four independent ozone generation control channels to energize the primary and secondary plate groupings of each of the at least two plate stacks. The number of plates in a plate grouping may optionally be altered to reduce the ozone generation capacity of the primary plate grouping in relation to the secondary plate grouping through the movement of resistive collars between the stacked ozone generation plates.
Abstract: A standard smoking lighter slides into a hole on top of a plastic sheath so that only the top of the lighter is exposed. The bottom of the sheath has a hammer like protrusion at one end to stuff tobacco or other herb into a pipe. The opposite end of the bottom has a pivot point for a poker which serves to mix the herb and ash within the pipe and/or clean the debris from the pipe. The poker folds up into the sheath when not in use. Thus, a three function pipe tool provides a lighter, a stuffer and a poker.

Abstract: The beam rotation device described herein has a base support with a first vertical jaw arm, a second vertical jaw arm, and a support arm. The second vertical jaw arm may be pivotally coupled to the device so as to go from a first, closed position to a second, opened position to receive a steel beam (e.g., I-beam). Once the steel beam is placed within the device, the support arm may hold the beam stationary to allow a worker to weld or perform other tasks. It will be appreciated that multiple beam rotation devices may be coupled together and work in tandem to receive and rotate a beam. The beam rotation device creates a safer working environment than the rotators found in the art by having a pivotable second vertical jaw arm that may open to receive a beam and a support arm to hold the beam during fabrication.
Abstract: Embodiments provide search answer extensibility by using either one or more primary applications that is executing or residing on, or is accessible to, a first computing device that receives a natural language (NL) query and/or one or more assigned applications that is executing or residing on the first computing device or on a different second computing device to process the NL query and provide a response to the NL query.

Abstract: A method and system for minimizing the control overhead in a multi-carrier wireless communication network that utilizes a time-frequency resource is disclosed. In some embodiments, one or more zones in the time-frequency resource are designated for particular applications, such as a zone dedicated for voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications. By grouping applications of a similar type together within a zone, a reduction in the number of bits necessary for mapping a packet stream to a portion of the time-frequency resource can be achieved. In some embodiments, modular coding schemes associated with the packet streams may be selected that further reduce the amount of necessary control information. In some embodiments, packets may be classified for transmission in accordance with application type, QoS parameters, and other properties. In some embodiments, improved control messages may be constructed to facilitate the control process and minimize associated overhead.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that enable a device to be unlocked and continuous user authentication without a touch input dedicated to fingerprint requisition. A touch input is received that comprises one or more touches to a touchscreen, and raw image data corresponding to the touches is retrieved from a fingerprint imaging sensor. A pixel-clustering technique is performed on the raw image data to determine a portion of the raw image data that corresponds to each of the touches. Touch embeddings are formed for each of the portions of the raw image data and compared to one or more stored fingerprint embeddings that correspond to respective fingerprints of one or more authorized users. An authentication result is then determined for the touch input based on the comparison results.
Abstract: An array of light emitting devices is mounted on a support surface with the transparent growth substrate (e.g., sapphire) facing up. A photoresist layer is then deposited over the top surface of the growth substrate, followed by depositing a reflective material over the top and side surfaces of the light emitting devices to encapsulate the light emitting devices. The top surfaces of the light emitting devices are then ground down to remove the reflective material over the top surface of the photoresist. The photoresist is then dissolved to leave a cavity over the growth substrate having reflective walls. The cavity is then filled with a phosphor. The phosphor-converted light emitting devices are then singulated to form packaged light emitting devices. All side light is reflected back into the light emitting device by the reflective material and eventually exits the light emitting device toward the phosphor. The packaged light emitting devices, when energized, appear as a white dot with no side emission (e.g.
