    Abstract: An optical device includes a low-noise illumination source, a support device, an ultra low-noise detector, an analog-to-digital converter, and a controller. The low-noise illumination source is configured to generate a single beam of radiation. The support device is configured to support an object and to pass the single beam of radiation through the object. The object directly blocks, absorbs, or deflects portions of the single beam of radiation, thereby directly modulating the single beam of radiation. The low-noise detector is configured to detect the modulated single beam of radiation and to output an analog signal representative of vibrational spectra of the object. The modulated single beam of radiation is non-interferometric. The analog-to-digital converter is configured to convert the detected analog signal into a digital signal. The controller is configured to analyze and generate vibrational spectra of the object from the digital signal represented as a range of events over time.

    Abstract: A method for increasing a default electric stall torque limits in a motor vehicle having an electrified powertrain inclusive of a traction power inverter module (TPIM) connected to an electric traction motor includes receiving vehicle level inputs via a controller. The controller is programmed with the default electric stall torque limits. The method includes selecting an inverter control strategy, via the controller, as a selected inverter control strategy in response to the vehicle level inputs, the strategy including temporarily increasing the default electric stall torque limits while applying a pulse width modulation (PWM) type at a corresponding PWM switching frequency. The method also includes controlling an output state of the TPIM and the electric traction motor over a calibrated duration, via the controller, using the selected inverter control strategy. A motor vehicle includes the controller, road wheels, TPIM, and traction motor.

    Abstract: A method and a system relates to a cellular-network assisted Pay-Per-View (PPV). An issue arises in reconciling PPV purchase balance data when a Set-top Box (STB) lacks a communication link to the PPV headend server. The present disclosure addresses the issue by using a mobile computing device for delivering the PPV balance data from the STB to the PPV headend server over a cellular-network. The mobile computing device receives the PPV balance data from the Conditional Access Module (CAM) on STB through near-field communications. The mobile computing device, when it is moved to inside a service coverage area of a cellular or Wi-Fi-network, transmits the PPV balance data to the PPV headend server. The PPV headend server updates the PPV balance data and transmits the updated PPV balance data to the CAM on STB via the satellite broadcasting network.

    Abstract: A classifier may be trained with less than all datasets manually annotated with labels. A small subset of verbatims may be manually labeled with topic labels as seeds. Data augmentations can be used to acquire seed verbatim sets for known topics and to assign temporary pseudo labels to the rest of the verbatims based on their vector space proximity to the labeled seed verbatims. The training may involve classification epochs during which embeddings are updated with the assumption that the pseudo labels are ground-truth labels. The training may also involve labeling epochs during which the updated embeddings are used to update the vectors corresponding to the verbatims, and pseudo labels are updated based on updated vector coordinates in the vector space. As the training process progresses through the epochs, the embeddings will converge.
