Abstract: In a method and system for managing a social group, the method includes determining a group member behavior from a member position relative to the social group, and inferring a member state from the member behavior. Spatial, spatio-temporal, and biometric data may be used. A social group management system includes an inference engine that infers a member state from the behavior of a monitored member. Another social group management method includes characterizing a first monitored member of the social group as a first discrete element; characterizing at least a second monitored member of the social group as at least a second discrete element; and determining a characteristic displacement between the first monitored member and at least the second monitored member in accordance with a discrete element method.

Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to accessing records of an in-memory database. A memory can include a primary storage and a data store can include a secondary storage. The primary storage includes a first subset of the records of the database, and the secondary storage includes a second subset of the records of the database. Moreover, the memory includes an update memo that includes timestamp notices. The timestamp notices specify statuses of records of the database having updates that span the primary storage and the secondary storage. The memory further includes a database management system that is executable by a processor. The database management system processes a transaction. Further, the database management system includes a storage interface component that accesses a record of the database for the transaction based on at least one of the timestamp notices of the update memo.

Abstract: Techniques for presenting a featured skill of a first member of a social network system are described. An example system presents the featured skill on a profile page of the first member. The system can receive a request to view the profile page from a device of a second member. Additionally, profile data of the first and second members can be accessed, the profile data including skills associated with the first member. An endorser value can be determined for the first member based on a reputation score, the endorser value being associated with the first member having a specific skill. Moreover, a quality score for each skill in the skills can be calculated using the endorser value and the profile data. Furthermore, the featured skill can be selected based on the quality score. Subsequently, a user interface can present the featured skill on the profile page of the first member.

Abstract: A computing system for redirecting electronic prescription refills is disclosed herein. A server computer device executing an electronic health records application constructs an electronic prescription for a patient and causes the electronic prescription to be routed to a first pharmacy device of a first pharmacy. The electronic prescription includes at least one refill. Subsequently, the server computing device receives an identifier for the electronic prescription and an identifier for a second pharmacy from a second server computing device executing a patient portal application, wherein the identifier for the second pharmacy is specified by the patient. The server computing device identifies the electronic prescription, determines a number of refills remaining on the electronic prescription, and constructs a second electronic prescription including the number of refills.

A receiver might transform a received signal into a basis in which the transformed signal is sparse, which can reduce the complexity of joint detection by facilitating message passing algorithm (MPA) decoding. A transmitter might employ dense codewords in a first basis, which may facilitate certain signal-processing operations and may provide a transmission with a low peak-to-average-power ratio. The codewords can be designed to be sparse when transformed to a second basis. The codewords may be configured for non-orthogonal multiple access.

Abstract: An intermodal terminal control system determines characteristics of cargo containers scheduled for receipt into and/or travel out of an intermodal terminal connected with both rail routes and automobile routes, determines characteristics of cargo handling equipment within the intermodal terminal, determines characteristics of rail vehicles scheduled for one or more of entry into or travel out of the intermodal terminal, and determines characteristics of automobile vehicles scheduled for entry into or travel out of the intermodal terminal. The system also determines constraints on cargo handling operations and a plan for the cargo handling equipment to transfer the cargo containers between the different modes of transportation within the intermodal terminal. The plan designates a sequence of operations to be performed in moving the cargo containers with the cargo handling equipment.

Abstract: An imaging directional backlight apparatus including a waveguide, a light source array, for providing large area directed illumination from localized light sources. The waveguide may include a stepped structure, in which the steps may further include extraction features optically hidden to guided light, propagating in a first forward direction. Returning light propagating in a second backward direction may be refracted, diffracted, or reflected by the features to provide discrete illumination beams exiting from the top surface of the waveguide. The directional backlight may be arranged to switch between at least a first wide angular luminance profile mode and a second narrow angular luminance profile mode. The directional backlight is arranged to illuminate an LCD with a bias electrode arranged to switch liquid crystal directors in black state pixels between a first wide angular contrast profile mode and a second narrow angular contrast profile mode.

At least one camera is directed toward the first and second sets of fiducial devices to sense a physical distortion of the RF reflective film. A controller cooperates with the at least one camera to operate the first and second sets of phased array antenna feeds to account for sensed physical distortion of the RF reflective film.

In particular, a view management system can synchronize and present multiple synchronized views of an electronic document for display on a client device. For example, the view management system can present multiple views of an electronic document and bind one or more of the views with a model. In response to detecting a user interaction with respect to a view, the view management system can cause a client device to apply the user interaction to each of multiple views (e.g., each view that is bound to the model). By synchronizing views, the view management system can enable a user to conveniently observe how one or more user interactions with respect to a view would appear across multiple views of an electronic document.

Abstract: Generation of energy and storage of energy for subsequent use is provided by electromethanogenesis of carbon dioxide into a fuel gas and the storage of the fuel gas for subsequent use. An electromethanogenic reactor includes an anode conductor and a cathode conductor wherein the cathode conductor includes submicron to micron scale pores. Electromethanogenesis microbes and/or enzymes are located in the micron scale pores of the cathode electrode conductor. Carbon dioxide is introduced into the electromethanogenic reactor and the electromethanogenesis microbes/enzymes and the carbon dioxide interact and produce a fuel gas. The fuel gas is stored for subsequent use, for example use in power generation.
